It&#8217;s the same device featuring same specs, came into origin after Galaxy Note 7 disaster in 2017. Starting today, Samsung Note FE users are receiving the update notifications in some countries. It was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/11/14/samsung-galaxy-note-7-fan-edition-with-android-9-0-pie-appears-on-wifi-alliance/">spotted running Android Pie</a> on WiFi Alliance last year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-242847" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/note-fe-udpate.jpg?x44794" alt="galaxy note fe" width="350" height="622" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/note-fe-udpate.jpg 350w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/note-fe-udpate-169x300.jpg 169w" sizes="(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px" /></p>
<p>The new update carries various improvements including Android P features such as refined permission control, gesture navigation, notch support, smarter notification channels, and better security. Moreover, upgraded OneUI brings an exciting new look and feel based on feedback from users.</p>
<p>Samsung recommends to backup important data before proceeding for the update weighing 1588 MB. The March security patch is also bundled with the update.</p>
<p>After updating make sure to upgrade Calculator, Samsung Internet, Samsung Health, Notes and other apps for a better experience.</p>
<p>It proves that Samsung still supports its high-end devices for more than two years. The update is available in Saudi Arabia and is likely to hit more devices in other countries soon. Make sure to charge your device for at least upto 70%, and also switch to a WiFi connection to save additional charges on carrier network before updating.</p>

Interestingly, the new for the phone started rolling out <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/10/02/google-october-2018-security-patch-brings-fixes-for-26-security-bugs/">minutes after Google released the same</a> for its own devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-205337 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Essential-Phone-Android-Pie.jpg?x44794" alt="Essential Phone Android Pie" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Essential-Phone-Android-Pie.jpg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Essential-Phone-Android-Pie-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Essential-Phone-Android-Pie-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Essential-Phone-Android-Pie-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>Apart from the October security patch, the new update also brings back the notch settings, which enables users to hide the notch on top of the display. The notch settings, which enables customisation of app uses the notch area disappeared after the update from Android 8.1 Oreo to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-pie/">Android 9.0 Pie</a>, when Google introduced new notch logic.</p>
<p>The reintroduced notch settings allows users to set their default notch preference for all applications from three options &#8212;  &#8220;Controlled by application,&#8221; &#8220;Always use notch area,&#8221; or &#8220;Never use notch area.&#8221; The October patches fixes a &#8220;critical vulnerability&#8221; that could allow a remote attacker some pretty high-level access.</p>
<p>Essential is doing something that no one other phone manufacturer has been able to do &#8212; providing Android updates on the same day it gets released. Recently, the company confirmed that it&#8217;ll also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/09/20/android-q-for-essential-phone-next-year/">provide the next major Android update</a> as well, i.e. Android Q, for the Essential Phone PH-1.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong>Read More: </strong><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/09/whats-new-in-android-9-pie-on-the-essential-phone/"><strong>What’s new in Android 9 Pie update for the Essential PH-1?</strong></a></p>
<p>It&#8217;s noteworthy that the company has stopped the development processor of its Essential Phone successor due to the poor sales of the company&#8217;s first smartphone. While it has promised <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-q/">Android Q</a> update, the company&#8217;s future is still uncertain.</p>
