Apple might be raising its efforts into its wireless charging technology. The company is reportedly working on a new multi device wireless charging system of the future.

According to Forbes, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed some interesting information about the company’s future wireless charging technology on its Power On newsletter. Apparently, the Cupertino based giant is working to bring a future where chargers that do more than just one device. As of right now, the brand sells the MagSafe Duo wireless charger that charges both the iPhone and Apple Watch/AirPods at the same time.

But as per Gurman, the iPhone maker is working on a successor to the AirPower, which was cancelled back in 2019. In the Power On newsletter, Gurman also stated that “there’s a reason why it planned to launch the device in the first place in 2017.” In other words, the company has yet to give up on its plans with wireless charging technology. He further added that Apple is looking for both short and long distance wireless charging, which is quite a bit more advanced that its current induction charging based offerings.

Gurman believes that the company is imagining a “future where all of Apple’s major devices can charge each other. Imagine an iPad charging an iPhone and then that iPhone charging AirPods or an Apple Watch.” Furthermore, with the European Union cracking down on electronic waste and pressuring the brand to conform to the industry’s universal standards, the company’s Lightning connectors might soon be replaced in favor of the USB-C. But to avoid this, the company could launch devices that only support wireless charging from its next gen multi device chargers. In other words, there might soon be a time where a portless iPhone launches, with the retail box only having a smartphone since the earphones and charging brick are already out.

Apple officially announced the cancellation of the much-anticipated AirPower wireless charger early last year. 18 months after the cancellation, there are feelers that the company is yet to fully collapse all prospect of Apple-branded wireless charging solutions. The US company is reportedly working on a couple of updated wireless chargers and one of them has allegedly been spotted on video for the first time.

According to 9to5Mac, a short video was sent in purported to be the Apple Wireless charger. The charger is noticeably smaller than existing wireless charging solutions from rival companies.

There are speculations that the leaked product could be a development unit meant for third-party accessory makers or a prototype of the commercial version. If it is a prototype, then that means the AirPower Mini will have a small build. Rumours also have it that Apple was planning to equip the next-gen iPhone 12 lineup which should launch in October with an internal ring of magnets beneath the rear panel.

The rumours also revealed that the design will also be put into consideration on the iPhone 12 cases in order to perfectly align the flagship devices with the upcoming wireless charger.

While Apple is yet to reveal anything bout the wireless charger, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had hinted in the early part of this year that Apple was working on a “smaller wireless charging mat” tentatively dubbed AirPower Mini. We can’t say for sure if the product will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 12 series. However, we won’t wait for too long as the flagships are expected to go official in October.
