The electric vehicle market is growing at an incredible pace. The reduced maintenance and charging costs make these vehicles much more appealing for consumers. Also, with some countries considering bans on gasoline car sales, that’s why more people are leaning towards electric options. This surge in interest has led to a rise in the number of companies entering the market. Notably, even Xiaomi is counting the days to unveil its own electric vehicle. And the Chinese tech giant isn’t alone. Many companies, including Apple, are on this path. However, recent information suggests that things are not going well with the upcoming Apple Car project. Here are the details…

What the Delays and Problems Mean for the Future of the Apple Car Project

If you’ve been closely following Gizmochina, I’m sure you’ve heard the name Ming-Chi Kuo before. This analyst closely monitors the industry and is particularly an expert when it comes to Apple. He is known for his accurate predictions about upcoming Apple products and features. However, Kuo’s recent predictions suggest that things aren’t going well within the company.

According to him, the company’s work on the Apple Car has “lost all visibility.” He believes that unless Apple adopts an acquisition strategy to penetrate the automotive market, it’s unlikely that the Apple Car will go into mass production “within the next few years.” Actually, Kuo’s predictions aren’t that unexpected. The Apple Car has been on the company’s agenda for several years, and has been eagerly anticipated since it was first announced.

However, it’s been mentioned less and less over time. Moreover, various reports suggest that there have been issues with the project. For instance, it’s known that the team working on the self-driving technology has faced some technical problems. Furthermore, the Apple Car project has seen several high-profile leadership changes in recent years, which has resulted in some instability and disruption.

However, the issues I’ve mentioned and all the problems in the project don’t necessarily mean the Apple Car project will be canceled. Remember, Apple is likely not struggling to make a car, but to make a perfect car. If Kuo’s predictions are accurate, the car will enter the testing phase in 2025 and will be ready for sale in 2026. Nonetheless, it’s essential to point out that this timeline has been postponed multiple times before, so the Apple Car’s release might be delayed even more.

Three more engineers leave the Apple Car project to join a startup: Report

For about a year, Apple’s much-anticipated project for its first fully autonomous car has been in the trends. The Apple Car is reportedly one of the most contingent projects for the company and it has seen major vicissitudes. Earlier, a few engineers working on the Car project left the company to join startups. Now, as per Bloomberg, three more engineers have reportedly left the company.

Eric Rogers, the one heading the car’s radar system has left the company to join the flying-taxi startup Joby Aviation Inc. Alex Clarabut and Stephen Spiteri, two Apple engineers responsible for the project have also joined the same flying-taxi startup.

Reportedly, Apple’s upcoming Car project has been bedevilling the company’s engineers, and as more engineers leave the company the project is expected to see a lot of uncertainties. Although for a Californian giant like Apple, it is swift to bring new employees, still seeing multiple people leave the company does show the coercion around the fully autonomous car project.

Nonetheless, Apple Car, internally called “Project Titan” will surely get a launch as it passes several pilots in its making. However, for the public, there’s no information regarding its specifications. The Apple Car is expected to be announced by 2025.

Apple Car patented feature lets owners share their cars with others without releasing the keys

The last has not been heard about the much-hyped Apple car in the making. Recently Apple was reported to be in talks with Korean partners on the development of the Apple car, and more details are now available.

A Patent filed by Apple has revealed that Apple car owners can authorize other users to drive the car without releasing the keys. Indeed, there have been several Patents relating to the Apple car covering a wide array of concepts and components that have been filed.

Obviously, the Apple car will not need physical keys as it would be operated via an iPhone. So the car will have digital keys which would allow for key sharing. According to the patent documents, the system will allow someone else to drive your car without the owner divulging critical and confidential information.

To be clear, the new patent is not about sharing passcodes or critical access data that can be snooped and used by third parties. According to Apple, if access is controlled by secret data, the owner must communicate the secret data to the individual which may be insecure. Apple has instead explored a token-based framework powered by an iPhone using an app from the iPhone. Similar to a one-time passcode, it may only be used once and access to the car will be restricted after the use.

There are still some fine details lacking for this concept of transferred digital access.

What happens when a user who has been given one-time access to the car parks may be to go for groceries? Will he be able to restart the car?

Although we are still in the dark on the date of the unveiling of the Apple car, some sources claim 2025 as the launch date. Apple has however not made any definitive statement yet on the matter.
