A couple of days ago, we had reported on rumors that Apple will source its chipsets from within the US. These chipsets would’ve been made by TSMC from its new semiconductor facility in Arizona. Now, the company has confirmed this news.

The Cupertino based giant’s CEO Tim Cook spoke this morning in Arizona and confirmed that the company is planning on buying chips that were manufactured in the US by the world’s largest contract chipmaker, TSMC. For those unaware, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has recently setup its multi billion dollar semiconductor plant in Arizona and is set to begin production by the year 2024.

Furthermore, the iPhone maker is already one of the biggest clients of the chipmaking giant. This move to source from within the US also benefits Apple amidst the ongoing tensions between Taiwan and China. The latter has been eyeing the former, although, the US has promised to defend the nation. But, military conflicts will make it harder for the company to source its chips from the region. Thus, sourcing it from its home market will help secure its chip supply chain.

According to Tim Cook, “And now, thanks to the hard work of so many people, these chips can be proudly stamped Made in America. This is an incredibly significant moment.” TSMC is spending around 12 billion US Dollars on its Arizona plant, which is also expected to begin the production of advanced 5nm process based chips by 2024. However, it even reportedly has plans to begin 3nm production to meet Apple’s demand as well.

A new leak has revealed that Apple is apparently working on new SoCs (system on chip). If this news is true, then the company is working on four new chips that could be featured in its products soon.

Upcoming Apple SoCs:
T600x: t6000, t6001
T811x: t8110, t8112

According to known leakster, Longhorm, the Cupertino based giant is currently developing new and upcoming chips. Notably, these processors will be from two different families of SoCs, namely the T6000x series and the T811x series. Within the former, the T6000 and the T6001 chips will be launched while the latter will have the T6110 and T8112 chips. Unfortunately, the source did not mention what purpose these chips serve and which products will they power.

Although, the Apple smartphones and tablet based chips have recently carried the internal 8000 series model numbers, so we can make an educated guess in saying that the T811x lineup could be designed for future iPhone series, iPads, or even smaller Mac computers. However, this also means that the purpose of the T6000 series chips are unknown at the moment. The company might be designing these chips for more powerful computers like the iMacs, MacBook Pros, or maybe even the rumored Mac Pro Mini, as per a TomsHardware report.

Keep in mind that this is still an unconfirmed report, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now. We would have to wait for additional reports or an official company announcement to know more about these chips since we have very little to go on at the moment. According to leaks from industrial sources, a Taiwanese company said that TSMC will receive 100 percent of the order for built the Apple iPhone processor to be released in 2014.

This means that Apple will be stop cooperates with Samsung, at least going in the next year, because of the possibility of chips for the iPhone this year still produced by the Korean company.

Preparing to produce chips with millions of units of quantity, TSMC has begun moving equipment to 5 facility, which will begin production later this year, and start volume manufacturing giant early next year.

The Processor is said already using 20nm technology and is located in southern Taiwan. Do not be surprised if Apple intends to release its reliance on Samsung, considering they are bitter enemies, both in terms of smartphone sales and patent wars.

A latest news reports that A7 processors for Apple smartphone mobile and tablets is starting to be produced. Production of experiments was conducted by one of the largest Taiwanese chip manufacturer, TSMC.

Apple A7 chip will be made using TSMC 20nm technology. TSMC chip production will be ready for mass-produced for Apple gadget in the first quarter of 2014.

If you look at the information, Apple seems will use the first A7 chip for the iPad. And with 20nm technology, the A7 is perceived to be superior to other mobile chips are still using 28nm technology, especially in the ratio of power consumption / performance.
