It is the first consumer smart doorbell to support the Apple HomeKit Secure Video standard and only works with Apple’s smart home setup.

Back in 2019, Apple first debuted its HomeKit Secure Video standard, although, developers have yet to widely adopt the new system. So, on a consumer level, the Logitech Circle View Doorbell camera is the first to offer the standard, as per TheVerge report. At the moment, the smart doorbell camera is designed to exclusively work with Apple’s HomeKit system, so there is no support for Amazon Alexa or Google Nest.

Talking more about the camera on the device, the Circle View Wired Doorbell offers a 160 degree field of view from its 5 megapixel sensor, which shoots in 1200x1600px resolution in HDR. It also houses an integrated light strip for lowlight, which can light up to illuminate the environment and capture the visitors up to six feet away, with support for color night vision as well.

Editor’s Pick: Apple launches its first-ever wireless headphones AirPods Max with ANC, 20hrs battery life

For those unaware, the HomeKit Secure Video standard from Apple allows Logitech to outsource most of its “security camera” aspect to the Cupertino based giant’s system. The Apple Home app can notify users that there are visitors outside their homes, even being capable of using the iCloud service to stream, store, and share video recordings by using the Apple TV or a HomePod as a main processing hub to determine whether there is a person or vehicle outside. The system can also utilize the Apple’s face recognition feature based on the users’ photo library.

The Logitech Circle View Doorbell Camera is available for 199.99 US Dollars and is available through Logitech’s or Apple’s official websites. Although, the former is offering a 299.99 US Dollars bundle that will include home installation through its website. So, for those interested, you might want to keep in mind that you would require at least a HomePod mini, HomePod, iPad, or Apple TV to serve as the HomeKit hub, as well as an iCloud storage plan as well.

The company has revealed that its HomeKit smart home system will take the stage at the trade show.

The company will be showcasing its own smart home system at CES 2020. The development comes as Apple’s top two rivals Amazon and Google are expected to roll out new update that will add more capabilities to their IoT-powered devices and voice-based smart platforms.

However, do note that Apple isn’t expected to launch any new hardware product at Consumer Electronics Show but Apple executive Jane Horvath is scheduled to speak on a consumer privacy panel on January 7th.

Apple has usually stayed clear from officially attending CES. This will be the first time in decades that Apple will attend Consumer Electronics Show in an official capacity. Last year, the company had put up a giant sign in Las Vegas touting the security of its devices, just ahead of CES. A year prior to that, in 2018, some of the Apple employees reportedly met with potential augmented-reality glasses suppliers at CES.

The world’s biggest tech trade show is about to kick-off on 7th January in Las Vegas, showcasing and launching new products and technologies that will eventually make their way to the market.
