Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that a new product launch is set for Feb. 19, sparking speculation about what’s coming. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this announcement is expected to introduce the next-generation iPhone SE, potentially called the iPhone SE 4. The upcoming model is said to bring major design and hardware upgrades over its predecessor.

iPhone SE 4: What to expect?

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to adopt the iPhone 14’s design, marking a significant departure from the previous SE models. It will feature a 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display, a notched front panel, and the removal of the bottom bezel.

The shift to this design also means the phone will include Face ID for the first time, replacing the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Additionally, it is rumoured to introduce a USB-C port, aligning with EU regulations.

Under the hood, the iPhone SE 4 is said to be powered by the A18 chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 16 series, paired with 8GB of RAM. This enables support for Apple Intelligence, bringing AI-powered features like enhanced Siri interactions, smarter text suggestions, and advanced photo editing. Reports suggest Apple will also equip the device with its in-house 5G modem instead of relying on Qualcomm.

The new SE model is likely to include a 48-megapixel main camera, a significant upgrade from the previous 12-megapixel sensor, while the front camera is expected to be a 12-megapixel shooter. Unlike flagship iPhones, it will not feature an ultra-wide lens.

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be priced at $499, putting it in direct competition with Google’s upcoming Pixel 9a, which is expected to launch a month later. Apple aims to target budget-conscious consumers, particularly in markets like the US, Canada, China, and India. The Feb. 19 launch even may also see the arrival of other products, such as the M4 MacBook Air, M3 iPad Air, and iPad 11.

Apple hasn’t launched a new SE model since it launched the iPhone SE back in 2022. According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, the current iPhone SE has been discontinued due to USB-C regulations in the EU. Therefore, the arrival of the iPhone SE (2025)’s arrival seems imminent. The report claims that the device will go on sale as early as next week. Here’s a look at the five major changes that are expected to arrive on the iPhone SE 4.

iPhone 14-like design

The iPhone SE 4 will arrive with the most radical change to the design as compared to previous generations. The report reiterates iPhone SE 4 leaks that have claimed that it will inherit iPhone 14’s design.

This means that the iPhone SE 4 will have a notched display like the iPhone 14, offering a large screen space of around 6.1 inches with the bottom bezel axed. As far as the rear design is concerned, the iPhone SE 4 will continue to sport a single camera with a single LED flash alongside it.

Face ID support

The iPhone SE 4 will be the first SE model to come with support for Face ID. This means that the device will not have a Touch ID sensor. The reason is the new design, which adds a notch to house the complex Face ID sensor. The bottom bezel is gone, and so is the Home button which housed the Touch ID sensor on the previous generation.

Apple AI

Apple introduced Apple Intelligence with the iPhone 16 series. Running on iOS 18, the iPhone SE 4 will be the most affordable iPhone to offer access to Apple AI. The Apple AI brings features, such as enhanced Siri, AI-powered writing tools, intelligent photo editing, and personalized suggestions on the iPhone 16 series.

Apple A18

The inclusion of the Apple A18 chip allows the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to run on Apple AI. Now that the iPhone SE 4 is expected to bring access to Apple AI, it is tipped to feature the A18 chip, making it as powerful as the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models.

USB-C

Another first for an iPhone SE model is the arrival of the USB-C port on the iPhone SE (4th generation). This is due to EU regulations, which require all new smartphones sold in the EU to use USB-C charging. It’s possible that the 4th-generation iPhone’s USB-C port’s data transfer speed could be limited to USB 2.0 speeds, which is the same as the Lightning connector. For context, the USB-C ports on the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 16, and 16 Plus are also limited to USB 2.0 speeds.

Reports have claimed that the iPhone SE 4 will have a new 48-megapixel rear camera, but the Bloomberg report does not mention a camera upgrade. The report also states that the iPhone SE 4 will arrive with a price hike. However, the pricing will remain competitive as compared to entry-level models from Samsung and Google. Apple is expected to achieve major sales from China, India, and emerging markets.
