<p>According to a Tweet from @TheGalox_, the Cupertino based giant&#8217;s newly unveiled M1 Ultra passed through GeekBench with a score of 24,055 points in the multi core tests and 1793 points in single core tests. This result was quite impressive considering it beat Team Blue&#8217;s high end Core i9-12900K processor that only scored 17,299 points in the multi core tests. Although, its single core tests were slightly faster with a score of 1893.</p>
<p>However, the M1 Ultra&#8217;s performance really impressive when you pit it against Team Red&#8217;s Ryzen <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Threadripper PRO 5975WX</span> chipset. This is a enterprise grade processor that scored 27603 points in multi core tests. Keep in mind, the Threadripper has 32 cores while the M1 Ultra has just 20 cores. Furthermore, we had also recently reported on an early benchmark of the M1 Ultra nearly rivaling the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor, which has a whopping 64 cores.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">Just saying, but geekbench scales a lot worse on windows than on macos so scores aren&#39;t really comparable, Cinebench is better</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>While the new Apple chip did not beat the AMD chips, it came extremely close to matching both chipsets. This is quite impressive for a chipset that is basically two <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-m1-max/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">M1 Max</a> SoCs combined together. Although, this is just synthetic benchmarks that only depict raw performance in one particular platform. So it does not directly imply that the chip is already outperforming every other chipset in the market. But, it is still impressive nonetheless.</p>

<p>&mdash; Benchleaks (@BenchLeaks) <a href="https://twitter.com/BenchLeaks/status/1501304865871613954?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 8, 2022</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>The benchmark was shared by @Benchleaks on Twitter and showed off some really great performance. In the multi core result on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/geekbench-5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">GeekBench 5</a>, the Cupertino based giant&#8217;s top end flagship processor scored a whopping 24,055 points. For reference, the M1 Ultra almost caught up to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor. The Apple chipset was just a few percentages behind the Team Red beast.</p>
<p>Keep in mind, that the Threadripper is a 64 core processor. So, its quite surprising to see that the M1 Ultra that was just announced is already rivaling some of the most powerful processors in the market. For those unaware, the M1 Ultra is basically two <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-m1-max/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">M1 Max</a> SoCs linked together, in what Apple calls UltraFusion. This essentially doubles the core count of the M1 Max, bringing it to a total of 20 cores. Out of these, 16 cores are high performance while 4 focus on power efficiency.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-447929 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra.jpeg?x10805" alt="Apple M1 Ultra" width="1960" height="1102" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra.jpeg 1960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-696x391.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-1068x600.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-1920x1080.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1960px) 100vw, 1960px" /></p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t end there as the M1 Ultra&#8217;s GPU cores also hit 64 cores, along with a staggering 128GB of unified memory that runs at an impressive 800GBps. This shows that Apple is no slouch when it comes to desktop processors, and isn&#8217;t making chipsets just for thin and light notebooks. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X was only 4.5 percent faster than the M1 Ultra chipset, which only had 20 cores in total. Keep in mind that these are still just synthetic benchmarks, and we will have to wait and see what real live performance and tests show.</p>

<p>In line with the rumors, Apple did announce a new chipset at the event but it wasn&#8217;t M2. Instead, the company unveiled a new variant of the M1 processor, dubbed M1 Ultra. This is the fourth chipset in the series which already includes M1, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-m1-pro">M1 Pro</a>, and M1 Max.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-447929 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra.jpeg?x10805" alt="Apple M1 Ultra" width="1960" height="1102" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra.jpeg 1960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-696x391.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-1068x600.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Apple-M1-Ultra-1920x1080.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1960px) 100vw, 1960px" /></p>
<p>The company says that the M1 Ultra, which is the final and ultimate M1 chip, has two <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-m1-max">M1 Max</a> dies bonded together onto a single chip using a special die-to-die interconnection tech that lets two Max chips work together.</p>
<p>Apple is calling this interconnection technology &#8220;UltraFusion&#8221; and using this, the company claims to offer double the performance of the M1 Max chip. The Apple Mac Studio is the first device to come powered by the new Apple Silicon&#8217;s M1 Ultra chip, which sits between the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-mac-mini">Mac Mini</a> and Mac Pro.</p>

<p>The chipset includes a 20-core CPU with 16 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores and a 64-core <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gpu">GPU</a>. Apple is claiming that the chips offer faster performance than the high-end discrete GPUs available in the market, that too with using up to 200W less power.</p>
<p>The company adds that there are 114 billion transistors and includes a 32-core Neural Engine. The chip also has support for up to 128GB of RAM. Apple is claiming that the M1 Ultra can manage up to 14 ProRes streams simultaneously.</p>
