<p>The first <a href="https://browser.geekbench.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&amp;q=mac15%2C9">Geekbench 6 results </a>for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/31/apple-announces-new-m3-pro-max-chip/">Apple&#8217;s M3 Max</a> chip have surfaced, providing a look at its CPU performance. The results show that the M3 Max offers a similar performance to the M2 Ultra chip for a lot less money.</p>

<p>The<a href="https://browser.geekbench.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&amp;q=mac15%2C9" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> results </a>appear to be for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, with the highest multi-core score for the M3 Max with a 16-core CPU being 21,084. </p>

<p>This means that the M3 Max is around as fast as the M2 Ultra chip, which has an average multi-core score of 21,182 in the Mac Pro Tower and 21,316 in the Mac Studio. The M3 Max is within 1% of the M2 Ultra in terms of CPU performance.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple M3 Max chip performance" class="wp-image-579648" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Apple-M3-Max-chip-performance.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>claims that the M3 Max chip is up to 50% faster than the M2 Max chip, and the early Geekbench results support this claim. However, it is important to note that benchmarks only provide a snapshot of performance, and real-world performance can vary.</p>

<p>The new 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 Max chip starts at $3,499 in the U.S., which is $500 less than the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mac-studio/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mac Studio</a> with the M2 Ultra chip. This means that you can effectively get the same CPU performance for less money with the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.</p>

<p>The new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/31/14-inch-16-inch-macbook-pro-launched-with-m3-m3-pro-m3-max-chips-offering-longest-battery-life-brighter-displays/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MacBook Pro</a> is available to order now, and most configurations will be shipped on November 7 while M3 Max configurations will be available later in November.</p>

<h2><strong>Apple M3 chip family: M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max</strong></h2>

<p>All M3 chips, regardless of which one you choose, share some basic features and specifications.</p>

<p>Besides being made on a 3nm process node, the M3 chip family features a next-gen GPU that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading. These features will enable more realistic graphics and complex scene rendering in both video games and 3D video programs.</p>

<p>Another new feature of all M3 chips is AV1 decode. This will allow for high-quality video rendering faster and more efficiently than other popular codecs.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="508" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-M3-Pro-and-M3-Max-Unified-Design.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-578924" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-M3-Pro-and-M3-Max-Unified-Design.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-M3-Pro-and-M3-Max-Unified-Design-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-M3-Pro-and-M3-Max-Unified-Design-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-M3-Pro-and-M3-Max-Unified-Design-696x393.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-M3-Pro-and-M3-Max-Unified-Design-744x420.jpg 744w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The M3 chip has an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. It can support up to 24GB of unified memory. The M3 Pro chip has a 12-core CPU and an 18-core GPU. It can support up to 36GB of unified memory. The M3 Max chip has a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. It can support up to 128GB of unified memory, which is a first for Apple silicon.</p>

<p>Here is a table that summarizes the key features of each chip:</p>

<div class="su-table su-table-alternate">

<figure class="wp-block-table aligncenter"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Feature</strong></td><td><strong>M3</strong></td><td><strong>M3 Pro</strong></td><td><strong>M3 Max</strong></td></tr><tr><td>CPU cores</td><td>8</td><td>12</td><td>16</td></tr><tr><td>GPU cores</td><td>10</td><td>18</td><td>40</td></tr><tr><td>Unified memory support</td><td>24GB</td><td>36GB</td><td>128GB</td></tr><tr><td>Transistor count</td><td>25 billion</td><td>37 billion</td><td>92 billion</td></tr></tbody></table><figcaption><em>Table: Apple M3 / M3 Pro / M3 Max Specifications</em></figcaption></figure>

</div>

<p>Apple says that the M3 chip is up to 35% faster than the M1 chip in terms of CPU performance, and up to 65% faster in terms of GPU performance. The M3 Pro chip is up to 30% faster than the M1 Pro chip in terms of single-threaded performance, and up to 40% faster in terms of GPU performance. The M3 Max chip is up to 80% faster than the M1 Max chip in terms of CPU performance, and up to 50% faster in terms of GPU performance.</p>

<p>Likewise, all M3 chips also feature a next-generation Neural Engine that is up to 60 percent faster than the Neural Engine in the M1 series chips. This will enable faster machine-learning tasks, such as video editing and image processing.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-Family-Neural-Engine-Performance.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-578923" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-Family-Neural-Engine-Performance.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-Family-Neural-Engine-Performance-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-Family-Neural-Engine-Performance-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-Family-Neural-Engine-Performance-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Apple-M3-Family-Neural-Engine-Performance-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Apple will launch the first M3-based Macs next week. Pre-orders for the M3 and M3 Pro-powered Macs are open now, but the M3 Max Macs models won&#8217;t be available until later in November.</p>
