<p>Images shared by X user @hsuchingpo show a rack-mount enclosure packed with multiple compute modules. Each module sits on a PCIe-style card with blue ejector latches, clearly designed so technicians can hot-swap them. A service diagram visible in the photos lists 14 numbered board positions, each with its own Apple part number (APN).</p>

<p>A close-up of one module shows a single M5 package under thermal paste, with VRM circuitry along the lower edge of the board and a gold edge connector that plugs into the backplane. The board itself has an Apple-style part-number sticker that reads 631-13397.</p>

<p>A wider shot of the chassis reveals a fully populated server blade. The compute modules are lined up across carrier bars, with each bar holding eight boards. Two of these rows are visible, connected by a central heat-pipe manifold. The service diagram taped inside the lid (listing positions 0 through 13 with unique APNs) points to a modular setup meant for field replacement rather than a fixed, single-board design. It’s possible the full chassis can hold more modules than the two rows shown, or the diagram might not line up perfectly with a symmetrical layout.</p>



<p>While the M5 isn’t as powerful as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s higher-end workstation chips like the M3 Ultra in terms of raw multi-core processing, its higher efficiency means multiple units can be packed densely into one enclosure without major thermal headaches. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute setup relies on device-class silicon instead of traditional server processors, essentially extending the company’s on-device privacy approach to larger-scale AI work in the cloud.</p>



<p>While the photos could be showing an engineering or pre-production configuration, they give us one of the clearest public looks yet at how Apple may be building its secure cloud AI systems.</p>

<p>The single-thread CPU test in Cinebench 2026 measures the absolute raw performance of a processor’s architecture without any software-based amplification. It forces the benchmark to run on exactly one virtual pipeline, allowing users to compare different chip designs on a completely level playing field.</p>



<p>Apple still maintains the lead in the single-thread/single-core performance. The M5 scores 731 points, while the Snapdragon X2 Elite manages 676 points. That’s a little over 8% increase for the Apple chip. However, multi-threaded scores tell a completely different story.</p>



<p>With 6459 points, the Snapdragon X2 Elite is significantly ahead of the Apple M5 (3680 points) in the multi-threaded CPU performance test.</p>

<p>Geekbench also confirms that the Apple M5 leads the single-core CPU test, scoring 4226 points against the Snapdragon X2 Elite’s 4037. Qualcomm’s chip bounces back strongly in the multi-core test, as we saw in the Cinebench test.</p>



<p>In the multi-core CPU test, the Snapdragon X2 Elite achieved 20,544 points. In contrast, the Apple M5 scores just over 17K. That’s a solid 18% boost for the Qualcomm chip.</p>

<h3>Powerful GPU Built for AI and Graphics</h3>



<p>The M5 features a new 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core. This design lets the GPU handle AI workloads much faster, offering over four times the peak GPU compute performance compared to M4 and more than six times compared to M1. The GPU also brings third-generation ray tracing and improved shader cores, resulting in up to 45 percent higher graphics performance than M4 and up to 2.5 times faster than M1.</p>



<p>The GPU’s new dynamic caching and optimized architecture deliver smoother gameplay, faster rendering, and more realistic visuals in creative and 3D apps. On Apple Vision Pro, M5 helps render 10 percent more pixels on the micro-OLED displays, with refresh rates up to 120Hz for sharper detail and reduced motion blur.</p>



<h3>Faster CPU and Neural Engine</h3>



<p>The chip includes a 10-core CPU with four performance cores and six efficiency cores, giving up to 15 percent faster multithreaded performance over M4. It also features a faster 16-core Neural Engine that handles AI-powered tools like Apple Intelligence and spatial photo creation on Vision Pro with greater speed and efficiency. Developers using Apple’s frameworks such as Core ML and Metal 4 can take advantage of the Neural Accelerators for improved AI app performance.</p>



<h3>Improved Memory and Energy Use</h3>



<p>M5 has a unified memory bandwidth of 153GB/s, about 30 percent higher than M4 and more than double that of M1. It supports up to 32GB of unified memory, letting users run large AI models or creative apps like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop at the same time.</p>
