Apple has reportedly been working on a new device named the AR Glass which is a mixed reality headset, expected to go official sometime in the year 2024, although some reports indicate its launch either next year or in 2024.

Now, a new report from analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research (via 9to5Mac) claims that the upcoming AR Glass headset has now entered the design development stage.

He also claims that the AR Glass product would be coming in the second half of 2024. The report further adds that Luxshare would remain one of Apple’s main suppliers for devices to come between late 2022 and 2024.

As for the development of the AR Glass, he adds that the product has now entered the design development stage in which the prototype will be ready by the end of this year while the mass production will start in the second half of 2024.

Apart from this AR/VR product, the Cupertino-based technology company is expected to announce a similar product later this year or early next year which is 100% focused on the augmented reality (AR) technology.

If the reports are to be believed, then the mixed reality headset from Apple will focus on media content, gaming, and communication. It could be powered by the Apple Silicon M-series chip and offer a high-resolution displays, along with several sensors and cameras.

Apple has scheduled its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6. The Californian giant is expected to announce the latest software upgrades for all of its devices. Undoubtedly, fans are most excited for the next iOS version, which is expected to be the iOS 16. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has now revealed that the iOS 16 will bring improvement in one of the major areas like the notifications management.

Gurman reveals that iOS 16 will offer improved notification management. He hasn’t said anything specific, but we may expect improvements to the notification panel or push notifications.

Furthermore, new health-tracking features are expected to be included in the upcoming iOS. However, the specific features have yet to be revealed. The iOS 16 is said to be codenamed Sydney. This name could also be an indication of the mixed reality headset and its interaction with the iPhone, as per Gurman.

That being said, we could also see the long-due VR headset at the event in June. Apple might also showcase a demo of the headset’s rOS revealing its features.

Apart from this, iPad OS 16 will arrive at the event. The new version is expected to bring a better multitasking UI. watchOS 9, macOS, and tvOS will also show up at the event. However, no details regarding them have been revealed.

Earlier today (25th January 2022), Li Nan, the co-founder and former Vice President of Meizu, shared interesting news regarding an upcoming Apple product. Nan stated that the iPhone maker is working on a new pair of “8K glasses.”

The former Chinese smartphone maker’s executive shared the information on his official Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website). In the social media post, Li Nan shared this news to address those who still “had doubts” regarding the Metaverse. In other words, this product from the Cupertino based giant will be a a VR/AR headset that will allow users to enter the metaverse. Unfortunately, he refrained from revealing any other finer details regarding this matter.

However, this is in line with our previous reports that also stated that Apple is working on its first ever VR headset that is set to launch soon. Initially, it was believed that the headset will launch later this year, but recent rumors hint at a delayed release in 2023. Apparently, the VR headset from Apple will feature performance that matches M1 Macs and will also use the same 96W USB Type C as the 14 inch MacBook Pro. Now, the ex-Meizu official also hints at its native 8K resolution support.

Known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the brand’s headset will house two processors, one of which is a 5nm based chip while the other is a smaller 4nm based chipset. Both of these processors will be manufactured by the world’s largest contract chipmaker, TSMC. The higher end chipset will offer computing power that rivals M1 chips in the new Macs, while the lower end processor would be dedicated towards the various sensors and related components of the headset. A known analyst has just revealed new information related to the Apple AR/VR headset. Reportedly, the company’s upcoming headset will use the same 96W USB Type C as the 14 inch MacBook Pro.

The news arrives from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (Via MacRumors) who shared the information in a research note with TF International Securities. The analyst stated that the Cupertino based giant’s headset will use a 96W power adapter, which is indicative of its processing power that rivals a Mac. Notably, we had also covered that the brand’s headset will feature performance that matches M1 Macs. So, this news is in line with our previous report.

Kuo further added that the iPhone maker’s headset will house two processors, one of which is a 5nm based chip while the other is a smaller 4nm based chipset. The Apple mixed reality headset could be released as early as 2022, barring any serious setback. It has been previously speculated that Apple was working on the mixed reality headset.

Bloomberg reporter Gurman had previously made projections and revelations relating to the revolutionary mixed reality headset. In his latest intervention, Gurman says the Cupertino-based company is planning to unleash the highly-priced device with a lot of advanced technologies.

For a start, according to Gurman, the mixed reality headset will have advanced chips, displays, and other components which will combine to give users a great mixed reality experience. Mixed reality implies that the headset will combine the functionalities of both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). This hybrid model offers a wide array of possibilities for a compelling gaming experience as well as other great applications.

The mixed reality headset will be capable of handling games in high-quality virtual reality while maintaining high-end displays. In addition, Ming-Chi Kuo says the mixed reality headset will also feature Wi-Fi 6E for an enhanced video streaming experience when not directly connected to a computer. The headset could also support 5G networks, although the analyst mentions that the product may suffer some delays even with the 2022 launch date still possible.

It is no longer news that Apple is in an advanced stage of development of a virtual reality (VR) headset. This has been the subject of several leaks, providing the design and operations of the innovative device that would certainly be a big statement by Apple when it is finally released.

A recent slew of patents obtained by Apple and spotted by Patently Apple, has again brought the VR headset into the spotlight, as the patents point to how the headset can be controlled via a couple of rings worn on the fingers, that is, the likelihood of hand tracking controls for the device.

Although a patent may not provide definitive information about an upcoming product, it provides important glimpses about the possible design or operation of the product, and the Apple patents relating to the VR headset are no different.

The leaks and patents, when pieced together carefully, have shown that the Apple headset has, in addition to VR, both mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR) capabilities, which underscores the overall versatility of the device. Apple’s patent titled “self-mixing interferometry-based gesture input system including a wearable or handheld device” may therefore be referring to the VR headset’s control apparatus with two rings that would be worn on the thumb and index fingers. The finger movements would therefore be the inputs needed for the subsequent applications in any of the spheres whether VR or AR or MR. The emerging technology of alternative reality holds lots of promise in the tech space and several manufacturers are exploring development in this direction.

While further developments are awaited in the evolution of the VR headset, Apple is yet to put out any statement regarding the product, neither has it affirmed that the product is in development. However, this is the expected response as the company continues to grapple with numerous leaks of its trade secrets.
