Apple has just recently launched its new top end Watch Ultra model that is also by far its most expensive smartwatch till date. Now, a YouTuber put it under a durability test and the results were surprising to say the least.

The Cupertino based giant’s Watch Ultra is the latest flagship smartwatch, and now, YouTuber TechRax put its durability to the test. Looking at this video, we can see the Watch Ultra smartwatch undergo a number of different endurance tests. This includes a drop from a height of four feet. The Watch Ultra did not have any cracks but did have a few minor dents on its casing. Following this, the Watch Ultra was even thrown in a jar of nails, but it still was able to survive without any scratches.

But these were just the start, the YouTuber also had one final durability test in mind. The device got hammered on its sapphire crystal display a number of times. Despite going through such physical trauma, the Watch Ultra was capable of enduring these hits before it finally got cracked. However, there was one interesting thing to note here. The table on which the Apple Watch was placed actually started showing signs of damage before the Watch Ultra.

Meaning, it started breaking before the smartwatch’s display got a crack. Although, the Watch Ultra didn’t fair much better either since the multiple hits had the device fail to turn on after the test. This implies that it suffered from some major damage on its internal hardware. But realistically speaking, a user’s Watch would never actually face such a tough situation.

The recently released Apple Watch Ultra is the latest flagship wearable from the Cupertino-based company. It was officially opened for pre-sale this week at a price of 6,299 yuan ($910) in China and the first deliveries are expected on September 23. However, the Watch Ultra could be a very expensive smartwatch to repair. Repair costs for the premium Apple smartwatch could gulp up to 60% of its retail price. Its repair cost is the highest among the Apple lineup of smartwatches.

The information reportedly displayed on the official Apple website in China indicates that the damage repair price of the Watch Ultra could be as high as 3,459 (~$541). Apple however offers the AppleCare+ service plan with a discounted repair cost of 588 yuan (~$85). The AppleCare+ Service Plan entails a payment of 799 yuan (~$115) for two years. The Apple Watch Ultra comes with some impressive features and improvements in its design. It however remains to be seen how this high repair cost could impact its acceptance in the market. The included service plan provides some comfort for users.

Apple promotes the Watch Ultra as a watch that pushes the boundaries for high-performance athletes. It is the most rugged and capable Apple Watch ever and comes with a robust titanium case, precision dual-frequency GPS, and up to 36 hours of battery life. Three specialized watch bands made for athletes and adventurers are also available for the device. It also offers the freedom of cellular with a pioneering engineering design. Apple says the Watch Ultra is crafted with painstaking attention to detail for unparalleled performance.

The new case is designed to protect the flat sapphire crystal from edge impacts and damage. The Apple Watch Ultra is water-resistant up to 100m and tested to MIL-STD 810H standard. With its rugged credentials, we expect the Apple Watch Ultra not to be underwhelming in its durability.

The watch is available for around $799 internationally.
