<p>Apple&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mixed-reality">Mixed Reality</a> headset, which has been in the news for the past few months as the upcoming AR/VR device from the technology giant, may get delayed due to software-related issues, <a href="https://twitter.com/mingchikuo/status/1599425148977057793">reports Ming-Chi Kuo</a>.</p>

<p>According to the report, the long-rumored <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> AR/VR headset is having unspecified software-related issues, which could delay the mass shipments of the device to the second half of next year, i.e. 2023.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="585" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-1024x585.png?x92417" alt="Apple AR/VR Headset" class="wp-image-499383" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-1024x585.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-300x171.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-768x439.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-1536x878.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-2048x1170.png 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-696x398.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-1068x610.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-1920x1097.png 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Apple-AR-VR-Headset-735x420.png 735w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Apple AR/VR Device Concept Design Render</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Kuo says that the mass shipments for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/components">components</a> of the device are likely to start somewhere in the first half of 2023, but the shipment of the fully assembled device may not begin until the second half of the year, resulting in a delayed launch even if Apple announces the device earlier in the year.</p>

<p>Earlier, Kuo had claimed that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ar-vr">AR/VR device</a> or the Mixed Reality headset from Apple could be announced at a January media event, with mass shipments beginning in the second quarter of the year. It is not yet known whether the delay in shipments would result in a pushback for the announcement of the device.</p>

<p>If the device isn&#8217;t announced in early 2023, then the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/wwdc">WWDC</a> 2023, somewhere around the month of June should be a good opportunity for the Cupertino-based tech giant to unveil the new device and open up its Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers to create AR/VR applications of the device.</p>

<p>Ming-Chi Kuo also expects the upcoming product from Apple to be on the expensive side when it comes to pricing. He forecasts that because of the pricing, the company will ship less than 500,000 units in the year 2023. We&#8217;ll have to wait for a few more weeks or months to know the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/features">features</a> and pricing of the device.</p>

<p>Now, a new report from analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research (<em><a href="https://9to5mac.com/2022/06/20/apple-ar-glass-iphone-15-pro-periscope/">via 9to5Mac</a></em>) claims that the upcoming AR Glass headset has now entered the design development stage.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-436608 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Screenshot-2022-01-11-124300.png?x92417" alt="Apple" width="682" height="385" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Screenshot-2022-01-11-124300.png 682w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Screenshot-2022-01-11-124300-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px" /></p>
<p>He also claims that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-ar-glass">AR Glass</a> product would be coming in the second half of 2024. The report further adds that Luxshare would remain one of Apple’s main suppliers for devices to come between late 2022 and 2024.</p>
<p>As for the development of the AR Glass, he adds that the product has now entered the design development stage in which the prototype will be ready by the end of this year while the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/production">mass production</a> will start in the second half of 2024.</p>
<p>Apart from this AR/VR product, the Cupertino-based technology company is expected to announce a similar product later this year or early next year which is 100% focused on the augmented reality (AR) technology.</p>
<p>If the reports are to be believed, then the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mixed-reality">mixed reality</a> headset from Apple will focus on media content, gaming, and communication. It could be powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-silicon">Apple Silicon</a> M-series chip and offer a high-resolution displays, along with several sensors and cameras.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-424605 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015.png?x92417" alt="Black Shark 4" width="1428" height="694" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015.png 1428w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015-300x146.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015-768x373.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015-1024x498.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015-696x338.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015-1068x519.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-2021-11-11-193015-864x420.png 864w" sizes="(max-width: 1428px) 100vw, 1428px" /></p>
<p>This diversification process will reportedly grow to include VR (Virtual Reality) based technologies and devices. So, the software content for VR will be provided by Tencent while Black Shark manufactures the hardware. For those unaware, the gaming smartphone brand is a relatively young company that was established back in 2017 and was backed by another Chinese tech giant, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Xiaomi</a>. As of right now, Xiaomi is the majority shareholder, holding around 46.4 percent stake in Black Shark. Unfortunately, Tencent has yet to official comment on this news at the moment.</p>
<p>Although, with tech companies moving towards the AR/VR field, especially after the introduction of the Metaverse, it was only a matter of time before the Chinese company would also make its move. Back in Q3 2021, the brand had even filed for a number of trademarks for technologies for the Metaverse. While the company has yet to confirm this news, it makes sense that the group would seek out an experienced brand that has its own facilities for R&amp;D and manufacturing to build a platform through which its content can be accessed.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-267077 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tencent-logo.jpg?x92417" alt="Tencent Logo" width="967" height="579" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tencent-logo.jpg 967w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tencent-logo-300x180.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tencent-logo-768x460.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tencent-logo-696x417.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tencent-logo-701x420.jpg 701w" sizes="(max-width: 967px) 100vw, 967px" /></p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t something new either, since <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/facebook/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Facebook</a> had previously acquired <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oculus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Oculus </a>in the past to fill up the hardware gap in its plans to provide both VR content along with the devices that allows you to access the VR world. Another source added that Tencent was likely in contact with all AR/VR related projects on the market, such as HTC. But since the group is known for a number of its popular gaming titles in the market, it isn&#8217;t odd that it chose Black Shark. Both brands have also previously partnered up for the latter&#8217;s gaming smartphones as well.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2020/09/apple-invents-a-future-vrar-headset-that-delivers-images-directly-to-the-users-pupils-via-mini-projectors.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>PatentlyApple</em> </a>report, the device detailed in the patents works to direct a retinal projector system that provides dynamic focusing for a head mounted display. Through this, a superior experience is delivered in either VR (virtual reality) or AR (augmented reality) than what the current generation achieves. This is also quite different from the traditional system of displaying content in a headset.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>UP NEXT: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/25/qualcomm-snapdragon-775g-6nm-launch-soon/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm to soon launch Snapdragon 775G chipset manufactured using 6nm process</a></strong></h6>
<p>The Apple patent also covers an apparatus and method for providing dynamic focusing on virtual reality or augmented reality. While conventional VR systems project images left to right on a screen that is viewed by the user, a direct retinal projector system scans images, pixels by pixel, and sends it directly to the retinas. This method could allow for AR/VR content to have another level of depth and immersion in each scene. In other words, the system could adjust the depth of the content being displays in accordance with the user&#8217;s positional in VR or AR.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-344432 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi.jpg?x92417" alt="Apple" width="425" height="714" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi-178x300.jpg 178w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi-768x1291.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi-609x1024.jpg 609w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi-696x1170.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/6a0120a5580826970c026bde9599b3200c-800wi-250x420.jpg 250w" sizes="(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>The system could even help to minimize or eliminate the convergence-accommodation conflict in VR systems. Apple detailed the system through various detailed sketches in the patent. Unfortunately, it is still too early to tell if the Cupertino based giant is actually working on such a device or whether it is just covering all bases and patenting the technology, which might make an appearance of its upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-glass/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple Glasses</a>.</p>

The amount mentioned in the report is far beyond the forecast of spending $6.53 billion dollars of the market spending in the year 2019.</p>
<p>As per the report, between the years 2018 and 2023, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the spending in the VR/AR sector will reach 84.6 percent, which is higher than the 78.3 percent CAGR of the global market.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-203340 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Chuwi-HiGame-VR.jpg?x92417" alt="Chuwi HiGame VR" width="695" height="460" /></p>
<p>In terms of commercial applications of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ar">AR</a>/VR, the three fields include training, retail showcasing, and industrial maintenance. In terms of consumer spending, VR games, AR games, and VR videos take up the top three spot, with the spending volume scaling up to $9.59 billion by 2023.</p>
<p>It says that China will see the largest AR/VR spending totals throughout the forecast, followed by the United States. The two countries will account for nearly three-quarters of all spending worldwide by 2023. The report also adds that AR software will be the second fastest growing category, enabling it to overtake VR software spending by 2022.</p>
<p>Globally, the AR/VR market is projected to witness stellar growth because of the booming gaming industry as well as the rising need for head-mounted displays. A report from MRFR suggests 73.3% CAGR in the augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vr">VR</a>) market between 2018 and 2025.</p>
<p>The AR/VR market is projected to gain traction mainly due to a massive wave of demand from multiple sectors. Healthcare, life &amp; sciences, education, gaming, entertainment, e-commerce, and retail are fueling significant demand for this technology.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400"><div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"></span><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: </strong></span><a title="China is now leading the smart speaker market, reports 500% growth" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/21/china-leads-smart-speaker-market/" rel="bookmark"><strong>China is now leading the smart speaker market, reports 500 percent growth</strong></a><b></b><span style="font-weight: 400"></div></div></span></p>
<p>The verticals of e-commerce and retail are expected to push the AR &amp; VR market substantially due to rising competition among industry giants. E-commerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart are using AR &amp; VR technology to revolutionize the online shopping landscape by providing a virtual reality shopping experience.</p>
<p align="justify">Furthermore, with prompt developments witnessed by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a> technology, integration of the same in the augmented and virtual reality technology is likely to push the market. Many organizations are adopting augmented reality and virtual reality technology to enhance the consumer experience of their products and services.</p>
