<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> continues to expand the list of compatible devices for its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/arcore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ARCore</a> platform, which enables users to unlock the full potential of the AR capabilities built into their Android smartphones. In March, several new devices were added to the list, including mid-range offerings from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/moto/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Moto</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/10/06/google-pixel-7-pixel-7-pro-unveiled-tensor-g2-chip-improved-cameras/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google&#8217;s Pixel series</a>. And now, in April, Google has added 14 more devices</p>

<p>The newly added devices include the Honor 70, Infinix MobileZero 5G 2023, Moto G72, Oppo A96 5G, Oppo Reno7 Z 5G, Realme GT 2 Pro, Realme GT Neo 3, Realme GT Neo 3 150W, Sharp AQUOS Sense7, Sharp AQUOS Sense7 Plus, Vivo I2017, Xiaomi Poco M4 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S, and ZTE Nubia RedMagic 7 Pro.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-1024x576.webp?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-528484" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-1536x864.webp 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Red-Magic-7-Pro.webp 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Nubia Red Magic 7 Pro</figcaption></figure>

<p>Most of these devices are mid-range smartphones available in the Asia Pacific and European markets. However, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-nubia-red-magic-7-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nubia Red Magic 7 Pro</a> stands out as a high-end offering. With these new additions, users can enjoy the full potential of the AR capabilities built into their smartphones. They can use apps and play games that take advantage of a variety of AR features available on Android.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that it takes Google some time to validate devices that would go up on the ARCore compatibility list, as it has to ensure each device adheres to its standards. This is why we saw flagship phones like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s23/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Galaxy S23</a> trio joining the list over a month after their mid-range counterparts received Google&#8217;s seal of approval.</p>

<p>If you want to check if your device is available on the ARCore list, you can visit the <a href="https://developers.google.com/ar/devices" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">supported devices page</a>. The addition of these new devices to the ARCore compatibility list is a testament to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google&#8217;s</a> commitment to making <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ar/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AR</a> accessible to everyone. With each new device added to the list, the AR ecosystem grows stronger, offering more opportunities for developers to create engaging AR experiences for users.</p>

<p>Google Play Services for AR enables augmented reality experiences on Android devices. Almost all modern smartphones and tablets are certified for these services.</p>

<p>But for some reason, Google didn’t update the official compatibility list for a longer period of time. The list got updated only recently since July 2022.</p>

<p>The updated list includes 15 new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/">Samsung</a> devices but it misses the recently unveiled important ones.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-1024x683.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S23 Series" class="wp-image-512886" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Series-Lifestyle-Featured.jpg 1662w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to <a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-phones-tablets-google-arcore-certification-galaxy-s23-missed/"><em>SamMobile</em></a>, the official Google Play Services for AR does not include the latest Galaxy S23 series. However, it contains the following Samsung smartphones and tablets.</p>

They may get added to the compatibility list once they hit the shelves after their pre-order duration.</p>

<p>In related news, just like its predecessors, the Galaxy S23 series also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/06/samsung-galaxy-s23-series-seamless-update/">lacks support for seamless updates</a>. Thankfully, the next-gen Galaxy S24 family may arrive with this feature as hinted by Samsung officially late last year.</p>

<p>The Zenfone 8 Flip is the most interesting device on this list as it hints at a foldable phone from <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/ASUS">ASUS</a>, a first for the Taiwanese manufacturer. An earlier leak had revealed that ASUS is planning <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/12/asus-zenfone-8-details-emerge-zenfone-8-mini/">to announce a small-screen phone for the Zenfone 8 series</a>. It has been reported that the phone will have a 5.9-inch OLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate.</p>
<p>However, this new leak from Google shows that a small screen phone is not the only thing we should be excited about with the upcoming Zenfone 8 series but also what may be a foldable phone. If the name is anything to go buy, the Zenfone 8 Flip should have a design similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, Google&#8217;s list doesn&#8217;t include specifications, so we are in the dark about what features this phone and the other unannounced ones will have. Nevertheless, we expect more details will surface in the weeks/months leading up to their launch.</p>

The phone is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 710 processor and is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2019. A new discovery has revealed there might be a second phone that is codenamed Sargo.</p>
<p>The discovery was made in the latest version of Google&#8217;s ARCore application. As it has become the norm, a teardown of the latest ARCore app usually reveals new devices that have gained ARCore support. Once in a while, it also reveals an unreleased device or in this case, devices.</p>
<p>A teardown of the latest version by <em>AndroidPolice</em> contains two codenames that can&#8217;t be linked to any known device. The codenames are Bonito and Sargo.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-221518" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Googe-Bonito-and-Google-Sargo.png?x10805" alt="Googe Bonito and Google Sargo" width="782" height="778" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Googe-Bonito-and-Google-Sargo.png 782w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Googe-Bonito-and-Google-Sargo-150x150.png 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Googe-Bonito-and-Google-Sargo-300x298.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Googe-Bonito-and-Google-Sargo-768x764.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Googe-Bonito-and-Google-Sargo-270x270.png 270w" sizes="(max-width: 782px) 100vw, 782px" /></p>
<p>The name Bonito was first revealed to be the codename of Google&#8217;s mid-range Pixel by Roland Quandt months ago. However, this is the first time we have come across the name Sargo. Since the codenames Google uses for its devices are taken from fishes, there are speculations that Sargo is also a Google device. Google search both fishes and you will find out Sargo is smaller than Bonito.</p>
<p>So we can assume Bonito is sort of like the XL device while Sargo is the non-XL device. Sargo could also be a different device entirely that is indeed smaller than Bonito but not related to it in any way. These are all just speculations by the way, so take with a pinch of salt.</p>

As it&#8217;s official changelog is not out yet, folks at Android Police did APK Teardown to know about some of its features. Interestingly, it appears that the ARCore v1.5 has already added support for the unreleased <a href="//www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-6t/">OnePlus 6T</a> and few other devices. There&#8217;s support for <a href="//www.gizmochina.com/tag/nokia-9/">Nokia 9</a> with the code name AOP_Sprout, Nokia Phoenix with PNX_sprout codename, and for unknown Nokia CTL_sprout. Further, source found a new variant of Vivo Nex touted as &#8220;B&#8221;, it could be a Vivo Nex 2.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-213817 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/arcore-hero-1.jpg?x10805" alt="arcore v1.5" width="1000" height="622" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/arcore-hero-1.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/arcore-hero-1-300x187.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/arcore-hero-1-768x478.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/arcore-hero-1-540x335.jpg 540w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>In the new version of ARCore, its support is extended for unreleased and unannounced devices. Even, there&#8217;s no reliable information available about these devices on the web. It means Google already had access to these devices, now after testing, they have added them to the ARCore support list.</p>

<p>Additionally, the APK teardown means that the listed features or support for devices has come or is yet to come. No, this isn&#8217;t the Nokia 6.2 but the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The new Nokia phone has been sighted on Google&#8217;s ARCore site.</p>
<p>Google has a website where ARCore supported devices are listed. Right under the section for HMD devices is the unreleased Nokia 6.1 Plus.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-198251" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-6.1-Plus.png?x10805" alt="Nokia 6.1 Plus" width="849" height="136" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-6.1-Plus.png 849w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-6.1-Plus-300x48.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-6.1-Plus-768x123.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 849px) 100vw, 849px" /></p>
<p>This is the first time we are hearing of the device so there is no info on its specifications. However, there are some who think the Nokia 6.1 Plus may be the same device as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-x6/">Nokia X6</a>.</p>
<p>They are of the opinion that HMD Global will launch the Nokia X6 as the Nokia 6.1 Plus outside China. The reason for this belief is because the unreleased Nokia 5.1 Plus is rumored to launch in China as the Nokia X5.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-197660" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-X6_2.jpg?x10805" alt="Nokia X6" width="613" height="336" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-X6_2.jpg 613w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Nokia-X6_2-300x164.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 613px) 100vw, 613px" /></p>
<p>However, if we are to go by the Indian support page of the Nokia X6 that briefly went live last week, it nullifies the argument. The only other way to confirm is to see if ARCore works on the Nokia X6. Since the Nokia X6 isn&#8217;t on the list of supported devices, ARCore working on it may just be the proof we need to confirm it is the same device as the Nokia 6.1 Plus.</p>

<p>Speaking of ARCore, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-7-plus/">Nokia 7 Plus</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-8-sirocco/">Nokia 8 Sirocco</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-6-2018-smartphone-full-specs-and-features/">Nokia 6.1</a> are the supported Nokia devices. According to fresh reports, Google is working on a standalone AR headset which may take on Microsoft&#8217;s Hololens.</p>
<p>Google&#8217;s standalone AR headset is internally referred to as Google A65 and will be powered by a custom-chip from Qualcomm. The chipset is said to be one of the new QSC series made by Qualcomm for Internet of Things (IoT) devices.</p>
<p>The exact chipset has not been confirmed since development is still at an early stage. However, there are two main ones in consideration at the moment.</p>
<p>There is the Qualcomm QSC603 which is a quad-core ARM SoC with two Kryo 300 Gold cores and two Kryo 300 Silver cores clocked at 1.6GHz and 1.7GHz respectively. Its GPU is the Adreno 615 and it has support for Tensorflow and Android Neural Networks API.</p>
<p>There is also the QSC605 which has eight cores in a 2+6 configuration. The two cores are Kryo 300 Gold cores clocked at 2.5GHz and there are six Kryo 300 Silver cores clocked at 1.7GHz.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-191734" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Meta-AR-Headset.png?x10805" alt="Meta AR Headset" width="856" height="462" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Meta-AR-Headset.png 856w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Meta-AR-Headset-300x162.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Meta-AR-Headset-768x415.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px" /></p>
<p>Google is reported to be working together with Taiwanese manufacturer, Quanta, on the AR headset. For those who don&#8217;t know, Quanta made the Pixel C for Google. It is also making a headset for another company called Meta but which will be tethered to a PC. Above is a render of the Meta headset.</p>

<p>The specific features and design of the headset are still unknown and there is no news on when it will be launched. We also do not know if it will be available to the general public right away or developers only like the Google Glass.</p>

However, since it never gained popularity, Google has confirmed that it will be ending its Project Tango on March 1. It will be succeeded by ARCore, a new AR system by Google that was introduced in August this year.</p>
<p>As Project Tango is a hardware-reliant approach, smartphones based on Project Tango such as the ASUS ZenFone AR and Lenovo Phab 2 Pro were launched with special sensors to support AR. However, Google’s major rival Apple managed to bring AR on its iPhones without adding any special hardware. In other words, Apple brought a software solution to augmented reality and its ARkit has metamorphosed iOS into a huge AR platform.</p>
<p>Since the time Google had launched ARCore, it was speculated that the search giant may kill the Project Tango initiative. Today, the company has released an official statement on it on Tango’s Twitter handle. It has confirmed that the “Google is continuing AR development with ARCore.” Also, it has been taken down the Project Tango website.  Google had introduced the ARCore system by simply introducing AR stickers for Pixel and Pixel 2 phones. In the near future, the platform is expected to receive an OS-wide implementation.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/asus-zenfone-ar">ASUS ZenFone AR</a> that was announced at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in January was made available for buying starting from June. It is the first 8 GB RAM smartphone that carries support for both Project Tango AR and Daydream VR. Since Google has officially confirmed the shutting down of Project Tango, it may be soon available with discounted pricing.</p>
