<p>We are just a few weeks away from the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 (CES) in Las Vegas. Yesterday, Taiwanese brand ASUS <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/12/11/asus-rog-january-8-launch-event-announced/">announced a ROG event</a> a day before the annual tech event commences on January 9. The company could launch multiple laptops as well as the next-generation ROG Phone 8 series at the event. In fact, the latter is also confirmed to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/12/12/asus-rog-phone-8-launch-date-china/">launch in China</a> on January 16. Now, ahead of the launch event, we have got a clear look which also seems to be official at the forthcoming gaming smartphones.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>ASUS ROG Phone 8 surfaces in official image</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="994" height="552" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-first-look.jpeg?x23692" alt="" class="wp-image-590072" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-first-look.jpeg 994w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-first-look-300x167.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-first-look-768x426.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-first-look-696x387.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-first-look-756x420.jpeg 756w" sizes="(max-width: 994px) 100vw, 994px" /></figure>

<p>A initial teaser of the ROG Phone 8 gave us a slight glimpse at the upcoming offering along with confirming a redesigned camera module. ASUS posted a <a href="https://rog-blind-camera-test.asus.com/">blind camera test</a> (<a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/asus-rog-phone-8-design-3393672/">via</a>) on its official website that asks visitors to select the best-looking photo in various scenarios. Once the test is completed, the page reveals the ROG Phone 8 giving us a better look at the design of the upcoming offering’s back panel.</p>

<p>Right off the bat, the ASUS ROG Phone 8 is seen with a boxy frame compared to the slim profile on its predecessor. The back panel has a dual-tone design separated by a lighter and darker shade of the same color variant (Grey and Black) of the device. The upcoming offering has a protruding squarish camera module that cuts off from the right edge. It houses one large sensor, two smaller lenses, and an LED flash unit. The bottom part of the device has the ROG’s RGB logo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/?s=asus">ASUS</a> ROG Phone 8 curves around the edges and we could also spot a USB-C port on the left edge of the device. Additionally, the test revealed pictures mentioning ‘telephoto (x3)’ and ‘telephoto (x10)’ categories. This potentially indicates that the ROG Phone 8 series may come with a telephoto camera.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ASUS ROG Phone 8 is already confirmed to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.&nbsp;</p>

The ROG Phone 8 lineup is expected to comprise of standard, pro, and ultimate variants. Now, the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro have appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. The Ultimate variant had surfaced in September.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ASUS ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro were previously <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/12/08/asus-rog-phon-8-rog-phone-8-pro-zenfone-11-ultra-receive-bluetooth-sig-certification/">spotted on the Bluetooth SIG</a> certification website with model numbers AI2401_D / AI2401_A and AI2401_A, respectively, confirming their monikers. The ROG Phone 8 duo with model numbers AI2401_D and AI2401_A have now surfaced on the benchmarking database. However, this is not the first time both devices are appearing on Geekbench and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/21/asus-rog-phone-8-ultimate-surfaces-on-geekbench-with-24gb-ram/">previously</a> they pointed out to the Ultimate variant of the ROG Phone 8. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="608" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-608x1024.jpeg?x23692" alt="" class="wp-image-589205" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-608x1024.jpeg 608w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-178x300.jpeg 178w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-768x1294.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-911x1536.jpeg 911w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-696x1173.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-1068x1800.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1-249x420.jpeg 249w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ROG-PHone-8-1.jpeg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px" /></figure>

<p>The Geekbench listing of the ASUS ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro mentions a motherboard codenamed pineapple and it comprises of two cores clocked at 2.27GHz, five cores at 2.96GHz, and a prime core ticking at 3.19GHz. The ROG Phone with model number AI2401_A is listed with 16GB RAM onboard whereas the device with model number AI2401_D has 24GB RAM. It’s likely that there could be multiple RAM and storage configurations of the ASUS ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro. The gaming phones will ship with Android 14 OS out of the box.</p>

<p>The ASUS ROG Phone 8 with model number AI2401_A scores 2,213 and 7,048 points in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core test results respectively. Meanwhile the device with model number AI2401_D scores 2,271 and 7,360 points respectively.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The global launch of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/rog-phone-8/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ASUS ROG Phone 8</a> appears to be near. The company shared a teaser poster that hints at the imminent release of the device, which is in line with some of the recent certification sightings. So here are all the details.</p>

<h2>ASUS ROG Phone 8 Global Launch Teased</h2>

<p>The Taiwanese tech giant shared the teaser image on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. The teaser simply states that the ROG Phone 8 is &#8216;Coming Soon.&#8217; For those unaware, the ASUS ROG Phone 8 series is the company&#8217;s latest generation of flagship gaming smartphones and includes the ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and the ROG Phone 8 Ultra. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-1024x576.jpeg?x23692" alt="ASUS ROG Phone 8" class="wp-image-589035" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ASUS-ROG-Phone-8-Global-Launch-Teaser.jpeg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Unfortunately, no official launch date was revealed but since it is the direct successor of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/13/asus-rog-phone-7-7-ultimate-debut-globally/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ROG Phone 7 lineup</a>, which launched back in April, we can expect a similar launch timeline next year. Just recently, the ASUS ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro surfaced on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/12/08/asus-rog-phon-8-rog-phone-8-pro-zenfone-11-ultra-receive-bluetooth-sig-certification/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bluetooth SIG certification</a> alongside the Zenfone 11 Ultra. Similarly, the top end <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/21/asus-rog-phone-8-ultimate-surfaces-on-geekbench-with-24gb-ram/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ROG Phone 8 Ultra had visited GeekBench</a> (a popular benchmarking platform) with an overkill 24GB of RAM. </p>

<p>This same model was even spotted on China&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/15/asus-rog-phone-8-ultimate-bags-3c-certification/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">3C certification</a> authority as well. Another sighting of the devices was on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/28/asus-rog-phone-8-series-imei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">IMEI </a>database. Based on what we know so far, the ASUS ROG Phone 8 series will be equipped with Qualcomm&#8217;s latest and greatest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/31/asus-rog-phone-8-series-confirmed-to-feature-snapdragon-8-gen-3-launching-soon/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</a> SoC. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more as we will be providing more updates when additional details are available regarding the upcoming gaming handsets.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus">Asus</a> has officially announced that its upcoming ROG gaming phone, which appears to be the ROG Phone 8 series, will feature the latest third-generation Snapdragon mobile platform, also known as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, the company has not confirmed the launch date of the ROG Phone 8 lineup. Here’s what to expect from Asus’ upcoming gaming-focused smartphones.</p>

<h3><strong>ROG Phone 8 series is arriving with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="593" height="756" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/ROG-Phone-Snapdragon-8-Gen-3.jpg?x23692" alt="ROG Phone Snapdragon 8 Gen 3" class="wp-image-578957" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/ROG-Phone-Snapdragon-8-Gen-3.jpg 593w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/ROG-Phone-Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-235x300.jpg 235w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/ROG-Phone-Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-329x420.jpg 329w" sizes="(max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px" /><figcaption>ROG Phone 8 series confirmed to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The inclusion of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-3">Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</a> in the ROG Phone 8 series will offer a 30 percent CPU performance boost, 20 percent better energy efficiency, a 25 percent GPU performance increase, and a significant 98 percent AI capability improvement as compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-power ROG Phone 7 series. It is unclear whether the ROG Phone 8 series will debut this year or early next year in China.</p>

<p>While the exact specifications of the ROG Phone 8 series remain undisclosed, a recent report revealed a possible lineup comprising the ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and ROG Phone 8 Ultimate. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/28/asus-rog-phone-8-series-imei/">Each of these models</a> has a unique model number, such as AI2401_A for the global market, AI2401_C for the China or India market, and AI2401_E for the ROG Phone 8 Pro.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/26/asus-rog-phone-8-geekbench-launch-near/">Back in September</a>, an ASUS phone with the model number ASUS_AI2401_A, which seems to be the ROG Phone 8, appeared in the Geekbench benchmark library. The device achieved a single-core score of 2213 points and a multi-core score of 7048 points on the benchmarking platform. The listing revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphone will arrive with 16 GB of RAM and Android 14, which will have a layer of ROG UI on top.</p>

<p>The ROG Phone 7 series made its global debut <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/13/asus-rog-phone-7-7-ultimate-debut-globally/">earlier this year in April</a>. The <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/asus">Asus </a>phones packed bleeding edge hardware, headlined by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, an E4 AMOLED display, and a large 6000mAh battery. While We are still many months away from the Asus ROG Phone 8 lineup, the gaming phones have made their first online appearance on the IMEI database. The new phones should be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.</p>

<p>GSMChina has spotted the possible Asus ROG Phone 8 series on the IMEI database. The new lineup could have three phones— ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and ROG Phone 8 Ultimate. While the database did not reveal any specifications of the phones, we do get to learn their model numbers. This could help in spotting the phones in other databases.</p>

<p>The publication notes the vanilla Asus ROG Phone 8 and the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate have the model number AI2401_A for the global market. The model number AI2401_C is said to represent versions of ROG Phone 8 and Ultimate models that will be sold in China or India. Lastly, the ROG Phone 8 Pro is identified by the model number AI2401_E.</p>

<p>The new gaming phones are expected to launch sometime next year, likely in the first quarter. Similar to their predecessors, the ROG Phone 8 models are expected to feature the latest Qualcomm flagship processor, which will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. These phones may also come equipped with gaming-centric features, such as AirTrigger ultrasonic air shoulder controls that support gestures like dual actions, press and lift, and gyroscope aiming.</p>
