For this comparison, we chose the Asus Zenfone 7 and the Huawei Mate 40 not only because they are recent, but because they are among the most competitive phones when it comes to the quality price ratio. Design

If you still like full-screen display, you will love the Asus Zenfone 7. Thanks to its flip-up camera, it has a display with no notch and no holes. If you desire the highest screen-to-body ratio, then you should go for the Huawei Mate 40 sporting a punch-hole display. The Huawei Mate 40 also provides the best build quality as it is waterproof with the IP68 certification. But all the phones come with a premium design composed of a glass back and an aluminum frame, so you always get an elegant look and a great build quality.

Display

Besides having a full-screen display, the Asus Zenfone 7 also provides an amazing image quality. It has an AMOLED display with a wide 6.67-inch diagonal, the HDR10+ certification, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and a high 700 nit brightness. The silver medal goes to the Huawei Mate 40 sporting an AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate and HDR10. These evaluations are based on the specs on the paper. We discard the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro because despite offering a 144 Hz refresh rate, it has an IPS display instead of an OLED panel. But this does not mean Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro does not have a pretty nice display, especially for gamers.

Hardware/Software

The most interesting device in terms of hardware is the Huawei Mate 40 because it packs the Kirin 9000E chipset built at 5 nm. It is one of the first SoCs built at 5 nm and it has an integrated 5G modem. The Huawei Mate 40 also offers 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro and Asus Zenfone 7 offer the same memory configurations, but they are fueled by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform. In each case, you get Android 10 out of the box, but the Huawei Mate 40 customized by the EMUI 11 lacks Google Play Services in the global market.

Camera

If you need the best camera you should grab a unit of the Huawei Mate 40 as it is the top camera phone of this trio. It sports a triple camera including a 50 MP main sensor, a telephoto lens with OIS and optical zoom, and a 16 MP ultrawide sensor. Right after, we got the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro: it lacks a telephoto sensor, but it has an amazing 108 MP main sensor with OIS. Despite the Asus Zenfone 7 loses the photo quality comparison it deserves to be considered because of its flip-up camera allowing to use the rear cameras as front cameras too. With the Asus Zenfone 7, you get a 64 MP main sensor, a telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro and Asus Zenfone 7 have the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. But Asus Zenfone 7 lasts more in a lot of scenarios because it has an AMOLED display and a lower refresh rate. It even supports reverse charging.

Price

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is priced at €599 in its base variant, Asus Zenfone 7 starts from €699/$699, Huawei still did not reveal the global price of the Mate 40. If we exclude the battery life, Huawei Mate 40 is actually a better handset, but the lack of Google services does not make it suitable for everyone. Asus Zenfone 7 and Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro are not very different: the former has a better display and allows using the main cameras as front cameras, while the latter has a better main camera sensor. Asus Zenfone 7 looks more interesting to me, but it costs more.

Another 2020 flagship killer series went official and a lot of people are wondering whether or not it is the definitive flagship killer series. We are talking about the Asus Zenfone 7 line-up composed of the Zenfone 7 and the Zenfone 7 Pro. The former is a device with flagship-class hardware sold at an incredibly affordable price if compared to other flagships. It is mandatory for us to make a comparison between this device and other flagship killers in order to establish whether or not this is the device a lot of power users should get in this second half of 2020. So, we decided to compare it with the Xiaomi Mi 10 and the Realme X50 Pro, both affordable flagships, both with Snapdragon 865 just like the Asus Zenfone 7.

Asus Zenfone 7 vs Realme X50 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 10

Design

The most original design belongs to the Asus Zenfone 7 due to the presence of flip-up camera and a true full-screen display. But the most beautiful device is the Xiaomi Mi 10, in my honest opinion. Its curved edges and its high screen-to-body ratio are simply amazing and they make it look like one of the most expensive flagships out there. With Asus Zenfone 7 you get a sturdier front panel thanks to the Gorilla Glass 6 protection, but it has an inferior Gorilla Glass 3 for the glass back. Realme X50 Pro 5G is still made of premium materials, but I like the design of the Xiaomi Mi 10 more.

Display

The displays of these devices are more or less at the same level. In each case, you get a Full HD+ resolution, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ standard. But the Asus Zenfone 7 looks slightly better due to its higher brightness. However, we had no chance to test the color accuracy and other display features of this device, so we can not give you a definitive verdict. Note that Xiaomi Mi 10 and Realme X50 Pro 5G feature an in-display fingerprint reader, while the Asus Zenfone 7 has a side-mounted biometric sensor. Last but not least, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Asus Zenfone 7 come with a wider diagonal.

Hardware/Software

The awesome Snapdragon 865 mobile platform powers all of these handsets: not the most advanced Qualcomm’s SoC out there, but it takes the silver medal right behind the Snapdragon 865+. Asus Zenfone 7 only gets 8 gigs of RAM in its most expensive configuration, while you can get up to 12 GB of RAM with Xiaomi Mi 10 and Realme X50 Pro 5G. On the other hand, Asus Zenfone 7 has UFS 3.1 storage instead of UFS 3.0, as well as a micro SD slot to expand its native storage (which is not present on Xiaomi Mi 10 and Realme X50 Pro 5G). All of the devices run Android 10 with a highly-customized user interface.

Camera

If we talk about the main sensor of the rear camera, Xiaomi Mi 10 is the winner. It sports an amazing 108 MP sensor just like the Mi 10 Pro, as well as OIS. But it lacks a telephoto lens, unlike Realme X50 Pro 5G and Asus Zenfone 7. Further, it has a pretty disappointing front camera. The Asus Zenfone 7 can use its rear triple camera as a selfie camera too, thanks to its motorized mechanism. The Realme X50 Pro 5G has a great dual front camera with 32 and 8 MP resolution, as well as an ultrawide sensor.

Battery

The Asus Zenfone 7 has the biggest battery and, with a 5000 mAh capacity, it is likely to last a lot more than Realme X50 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Mi 10. With the Realme X50 Pro 5G, you get the smallest battery, but also the fastest charging technology: 65W power instead of 30W found on the Asus Zenfone 7 and the Xiaomi Mi 10. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 10, which sits in the middle in terms of capacity, offers both fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Price

The price of Asus Zenfone 7 for the global market is yet to be announced (€600/$710 in Taiwan). You can get a Xiaomi Mi 10 for less than €600/$710 thanks to online street prices, and it is the same for the Realme X50 Pro 5G. It is very hard to pick a winner of this comparison. Asus Zenfone 7 has a better display, a bigger battery, and a flip-up camera. Xiaomi Mi 10 offers wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and a better main camera. Realme X50 Pro 5G has great selfie cameras and faster charging. Which one would you pick?

After launching the ROG Phone 3 gaming smartphone worldwide last month, ASUS schedules an event for August 26 to unveil Zenfone 7 series in its home country Taiwan. Ahead of it, this smartphone was benchmarked by someone on Geekbench earlier today revealing it to come with Snapdragon 865+ (Plus) chipset and 8GB RAM.

Last year’s Zenfone 6 aka ASUS 6Z is one of a kind smartphone with a motorized flip camera. Also, it debuted at a much lower price tag than flagship smartphones from other companies. Hence, its successor is one of the most anticipated smartphones by a niche audience.

Unlike the previous generation, the Zenfone 7 series is expected to have two models – regular and pro. These devices were spotted on multiple certification bureaus in the past few weeks. However, their design is still a mystery, which is kind of odd in today’s world of leaks.

Anyway, today’s Geekbench listings of the handset with model number ASUS_I002D, which could be either Zenfone 7 or Zenfone 7 Pro based on certifications confirms it to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ (Plus) paired with 8GB RAM.

The listings were first spotted by 91Mobiles and they were also the one to confirm the chipset to be Snapdragon 865+ (Plus) and not the standard variant by digging inside the source code. This makes us believe this model be Zenfone 7 Pro and not the regular model.

That said, as per previous reports, the Zenfone 7 (Pro) will retain the flip camera and will feature WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 5,000mAh battery, and 30W fast charging.

ASUS launched the ROG Phone 3 as its third generation gaming smartphone worldwide last month. Now, the company quietly schedules Zenfone 7 series launch event for August 26. However, this launch will be limited to its home country Taiwan. The live stream for the official announcement is already live on the firm’s Taiwanese YouTube channel.

The upcoming ASUS Zenfone 7 series is one of the least leaked smartphones of 2020 so far. Though the devices have passed through multiple certifications, the details about their design and specifications are scarce.

Anyway, according to previous reports, the Zenfone 7 is expected to retain the flip camera from its predecessor Zenfone 6 aka ASUS 6Z in India. Also, it is said to feature a larger 6.7-inch display compared to 6.4-inch on its predecessor.

Further, it may be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 instead of Snapdragon 865+ (Plus), which is present inside the ROG Phone 3. Like any other flagship these days, it will also feature a massive battery, 5,000mAh to be exact with support for 30W fast charging as per TÜV Rheinland certification.

Whereas, according to NCC, it will come with WiFi 6, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and 512GB internal storage. However, there could be variants will lower storage configuration as well.

Unfortunately, nothing else is known about this smartphone, especially its design. That said, since we are still a week from the launch, the handset may leak in the coming days as it might have probably shipped to retailers and media by now.

In May 2019, ASUS announced the ASUS ZenFone 6 flagship phone with a slide-out rear camera. Due to a legal issue, the handset had arrived in India as ASUS 6z. The sequel for the ZenFone 6 is yet to go official. A mysterious ASUS phone has appeared on Geekbench benchmarks. It seems to be the upcoming ASUS ZenFone 7 or ASUS 7z.

The ‘asus ZF’ has appeared on Geekbench 5 with Snapdragon 865 that has a base frequency of 1.80GHz. The SoC is mentioned with ‘Kona’ codename. The smartphone is loaded with Android 10 OS.  It is only because the device is labeled as ‘ZF’ on Geekbench, it is being dubbed as an SD865 powered ZenFone model.

What is interesting about the listing is that the device is equipped with 16 GB of RAM. The amount of RAM on the device indicates that it will be capable at delivering monstrous performance. In the single-core test of Geekbench 5, it scored 975. It recorded a score of 3346 in the multi-core test.

Nothing else is known on the specifications of the smartphone. The ASUS 7z and ROG Phone 3 gaming smartphone will be arriving as the first 5G-ready phones from the Taiwanese manufacturer. The ROG Phone 3 will be debuting in July. It is unclear whether the ZenFone 7 will go official alongside the company’s next gaming phone.

The ROG Phone 3 has already appeared on TENAA with full specs ahead of launch. It has a 6.59-inch AMOLED display and is said to arrive with the unannounced Snapdragon 865+ SoC. It could be coming with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of native storage. The handset is said to be equipped with a 6,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. It has a 64-megapixel triple camera setup on its back and a front camera of 13-megapixel. The handset achieved a score of 646,310 in AnTuTu benchmarks.
