The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/03/zte-axon-20-5g-the-worlds-first-ud-camera-phone-launched-for-the-global-market/">Axon 20</a> which was launched last year is still the only model worldwide that packs an under-screen selfie camera. ZTE has now unveiled the Axon 30 bringing a new generation of under-screen camera technology again this year. The device not only features a better display but the under-screen camera technology also promises a better imaging effect than its predecessor. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-402378" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30" width="600" height="333" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-300x167.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Unlike the Axon 20 display which could boast of just 200 PPI, the Axon 30 display is touted to be the world’s first 400PPI under-screen camera phone. It is also the first phone with an under-screen camera that supports a 120Hz refresh rate.</p>
<p>In terms of specifications, the ZTE Axon 30 with a completely symmetrical, non-perforated 6.92-inch AMOLED screen with 1.07 billion colors and a resolution of 2460 x 1080 pixels. The device utilizes a slender 20.5:9 screen aspect ratio with a 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, matching all colors in the digital image. The device also comes with DTS: XUltra 3D sound effects that can provide an immersive audio and video experience.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-402379" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-2.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30" width="600" height="340" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-2-300x170.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>ZTE also added two new smart display controls on the Axon 30: smart pixel enhancement control and smart optimized display control. The multi-drive ACE circuit arrangement makes the transition of the camera area under the screen more natural. The 7-layer screen structure, special OLED and more transparent cathodes, and high-transmittance arrays create better conditions for the camera under the screen.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-402380" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-3.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-3-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Talking of the camera setup, the Axon 30 is equipped with a 16 megapixels large-size front camera with a single-pixel size of up to 1.12um. ZTE says it relied on tens of thousands of sets of data, through AI deep learning for model training, and finally realized the revolutionary upgrade of the proactive intelligence algorithm 2.0, allowing users to use AI image quality even in scenes with darker ambient light. Enhancement technology greatly improves the resolution of the picture, thereby improving the problems of underexposure and obvious noise during shooting, thus improving the practicality of the under-screen camera. The camera sample shows a bright prospect but we&#8217;ll have to wait for independent reviews to know if ZTE has indeed gotten it right.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-in-display-camera-sample.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-401705" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-in-display-camera-sample.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30 5G in-display camera sample" width="600" height="799" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-in-display-camera-sample.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-in-display-camera-sample-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-in-display-camera-sample-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of the core configuration, ZTE Axon 30 is powered by the Snapdragon 870 processor. It is also equipped with UFS3.1 flash memory and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/23/zte-axon-30-20gb-ram-memory-expansion-pro/">supports memory fusion technology</a>, which can call 8GB from flash memory as Virtual storage (post push), combined with the 12GB physical RAM version, this bumps up the available RAM to 20GB.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-402329" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30 global launch" width="1021" height="722" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch.jpg 1021w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch-300x212.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch-768x543.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch-696x492.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-global-launch-594x420.jpg 594w" sizes="(max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px" /></a></p>
<p>In addition, the Axon 30 is also excellent in rear imaging. It adopts a matrix arrangement of a four-camera setup in which the main camera is the 64-megapixel Sony IMX682sensor teaming up with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 5-megapixel macro, and a 2-megapixel depth-of-field lens.</p>
<p>At the same time, ZTE Axon 30 also supports smart Vlog short video shooting function, with different built-in smart shooting templates. You can choose music, special effects, and filters as you like, without the need for further editing before publishing.</p>
<p>In other respects, the Axon 30 packs a 4200mAh battery and supports 55W fast charging. It also comes with NFC  in addition to 5G support. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-4.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-402381" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-4.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-4.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/zte-axon-30-launch-4-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of price, the Axon 30 will be available in four different memory variants. Here are the prices;</p>

<p>For those unaware, memory expansion uses some of a handset&#8217;s ROM (internal storage) which is not in use to virtually boost the RAM. Through this, we have seen memory boosts of different ranges like 3GB or even 7GB. But its seems ZTE aims on improving this technology even further. According to Lu Qianhao, Director of Consumer Experience Department at ZTE, the technology has yet to be well received by users due its implementation so far.</p>
<p>He added that one of the reasons for the lack of its widespread adoption is that the end user does not always see noticeable difference in performance and apart from a boost in RAM amount it does not always offer a lot of benefits. As per the official, one of its implementation is a simple use of free ROM. But this lacks any proper background scheduling aglorithms that would make it very useful. He further added that the boost in virtual RAM is also not substantial at the moment.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-401679 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/s_37377a3f085a45528ddaf64643a4e653.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/s_37377a3f085a45528ddaf64643a4e653.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/s_37377a3f085a45528ddaf64643a4e653-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>But he stated that ZTE has developed its own Memory Expansion Pro technology to improve upon these limitations. The new proprietary system will combine UFS 3.1 ROM that has fast read and write speeds along with a brand new Lingxi engine to raise the RAM capacity by 8GB of RAM. This means that the Axon 30 5G&#8217;s 12GB of RAM could reach 20GB through this new technology.</p>

However, the company confirmed through a Weibo post that the lineup will break cover on April 15 in China.</p>
<p>Reports have claimed that the Axon 30 series has three models namely, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-30/">Axon 30</a>, Axon 30 Pro, and Axon 30 Pro+. The handset shown in the image below is one of the Axon 30 series phones. It is likely that all three handsets may sport the same rear design.</p>
<p>The poster reveals that the Axon 30 series smartphone’s rear camera module has four cameras. There is a possibility that the Axon 30 Pro or the Axon 30 Pro+ will feature <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/02/zte-axon-30-teaser-hints-auxiliary-sensor-trinity-triple-camera/">three 64-megapixel cameras and an auxiliary lens.</a> While the rumor mill has revealed some of the key specs of Axon 30 Pro, the details of the Axon 30 and 30 Pro+ are yet to emerge.</p>

<p>Passt reports have revealed that the Axon 30 Pro is equipped with a 6.92-inch OLED screen, which is integrated with the second-generation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/20/zte-teases-axon-30-smartphone-will-have-an-under-display-camera/">under-display camera technology</a>. The massive display is expected to deliver 10-bit colors, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 360Hz touch sampling rate.</p>
<p>The handset will be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/05/zte-axon-30-first-sd888-under-display-camera/">fueled by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform</a> and it houses a 4,500mAh battery with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/10/purported-zte-axon-30-pro-likely-to-support-55w-charging-reveals-3c-certification/">55W</a> or 65W fast charging support. The SoC will be accompanied by LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. It may feature a 44-megapixel camera for capturing selfies. It is expected to offer users other features like MyOS based Android 11 OS, dual speakers, and linear motor, and so on. Hopefully, the company will confirm the other features of the Axon 30 series through daily teasers before the official announcement.</p>

Now, the company shared a new promotional image poster, which teases an auxiliary image sensor along with the Trinity Triple camera system on the rear.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-381696 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973ly1gp5exbqby3j20u01hck1c.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE" width="506" height="900" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the Trinity triple camera setup is basically the name for the Axon 30 Pro&#8217;s rear camera module. All three sensors are <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/16/zte-announces-the-axon-30-pro-will-have-three-64mp-cameras/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">high end shooters that feature 64 megapixel sensors</a>. In other words, the camera system has a sum total of close to 200 megapixels on the rear. Looking at the promotional image poster, one can observe that the new camera system has four sensors on the rear.</p>
<p>While the three prominent lenses are the Trinity Triple camera system, the fourth sensor appears to be an auxiliary sensor for support. Unfortunately, the function of this sensor is currently unknown, although, it is likely to be a macro or black and white lens, or something else that supplements the primary triple cameras. However, this is just speculation so take it with a pinch of salt and we will have to wait for an official company announcement or additional teasers to know for sure.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-381695 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973gy1gp4bipjp61j20ku112h8r.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE" width="415" height="738" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973gy1gp4bipjp61j20ku112h8r.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973gy1gp4bipjp61j20ku112h8r-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973gy1gp4bipjp61j20ku112h8r-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973gy1gp4bipjp61j20ku112h8r-696x1238.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/7afae973gy1gp4bipjp61j20ku112h8r-236x420.jpg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px" /></p>
<p>At the moment, the company has yet to reveal an announcement or launch date for its upcoming premium grade handset lineup. But, we had <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/02/zte-may-unveil-axon-30-series-april-30-releasing-daily-pre-launch-teasers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported on a possible 30th April 2021 launch date</a>. Finer details regarding the device are also unknown, but it is likely to feature top notch hardware like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm Snapdragon 888</a> processor. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available.</p>

Last year, it launched two Axon series &#8211; the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-11-5g/">Axon 11</a> and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-20-5g/">Axon 20</a>, the latter being one of the first smartphones to have an in-display camera. ZTE has now released a teaser for a successor which should launch as the Axon 30.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-366786" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ZTE-Axon-30-teaser.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30 teaser" width="690" height="1227" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ZTE-Axon-30-teaser.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ZTE-Axon-30-teaser-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ZTE-Axon-30-teaser-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ZTE-Axon-30-teaser-236x420.jpg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></p>
<p>The teaser poster hints at the upcoming phone having an in-display front-facing camera just like the Axon 20. However, unlike its predecessor which launched as a mid-range smartphone, the Axon 30 will be a flagship with a Snapdragon 888 processor under its hood.</p>
<p>The Axon 30 will feature ZTE&#8217;s second-gen under-display camera technology and we hope it offers better results than the Axon 20. We also expect the phone to pack better cameras, run <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a> out of the box, have support for at least 30W fast wired charging. Other features it should have are NFC, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. The Axon 30 may also come along with siblings some of which may not be flagship phones. However, there is a chance they all will have 5G support.</p>
<p>There is no info on the launch date but there are speculations it will be announced after the Chinese New Year holiday which is in mid-February. However, a message from the president of Nubia, a ZTE-owned brand, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/15/zte-to-soon-launch-its-second-generation-in-display-camera-smartphone/">hints at the phone arriving sooner</a>. The phone should launch first in China before making its way to other countries.</p>
<p>We expect more details will surface in the weeks leading up to the launch.</p>
