Huawei is one of the world’s leading telecom equipment manufacturers but the company is now barred from working on the 5G communication technology because of the sanctions imposed by the United States.

At a time when several countries are looking to get rid of Huawei telecom equipment from their telecom infractions, Bangladesh has done the opposite. The first commercial 5G network in the country is now live, thanks to the partnership of Huawei and Teletalk.

Initially, the 5G network will be available in six locations around the Bangladesh Secretariat, the National Parliament area, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, the National Monument in Savar, and the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation in Tungipara, Gopalganj.

Mustafa Jabbar, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Division, said that after 2G and 3G, the 5G technology can go much beyond and expand the horizons for industries, businesses, agriculture, healthcare, and much more.

Zhang Zhengjun, CEO of Huawei Bangladesh, said: “We believe 5G will change society with diversified applications for individuals, homes, and industries. And Huawei will always be there to facilitate Bangladesh with its innovative technology because we are in Bangladesh, for Bangladesh.”

The company has revealed that the coverage will gradually expand to more regions of the country. However, there’s no timeline about when the coverage will be expanded or which areas will be covered in the future.

Infinix has been launching mid-range smartphones in the market and now the company has announced its latest entry-level offering, dubbed as Infinix Smart 5 Pro. This is yet another variant in the series that includes Smart 5 and the Smart 5A.

The smartphone features a 6.52-inch LCD TFT Full HD+ display that offers a peak brightness of 500 nits. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz which is likely to be UNISOC SC9863A.

It comes packed with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. As for the camera department, the phone has a dual-camera setup on the back that includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a secondary depth sensor.

On the front side, the device features an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling. The phone also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added protection.

The phone is running the Android 11 Go Edition operating system out-of-the-box with XOS 7.6 on top. The device is powered by a bigger 6,000mAh battery which supports 18W charging and the company claims can deliver up to 67 hours of talk time or 88 days of standby time on a single charge.

The device comes in different color options — Black, Blue, Copper, and Green. In Bangladesh, the device is priced at BDT 8,898, which is approximately $104 and is available for purchase via Daraz. It was recently spotted listed on the e-commerce website XPark in Pakistan for the price of PKR 14,499 which is approximately ₹6,200 or $83.

Huawei is downsizing the workforce of its smartphone business operations in Bangladesh. The company made the announcement earlier this week, stating that over seven of its eight staffers in the division are being laid off.

These officials have been directly supervising the smartphone and other device business of the Chinese tech giant in the region from the Bangladesh Headquarters. The sole remaining employee will now coordinate the Huawei device business in the whole country. This process of downsizing and cutting jobs in the region began back in November 2019 when distributor Smart Technologies began leading sales, marketing, and business operations.

Furthermore, a few executives have been promoted while the others were appointed on contracts. The sales manager of Smart Technologies, Md Anwar Hossain, has declined to comment on the matter when reached out to by bgnews24.com. Although an official from the same firm mentioned that they would still conduct sales, marketing, and business involving smartphones and other products, however, an official from the Chinese brand will coordinate the operation.

The official further added that the division’s operations and branding will now be handled directly from Malaysia. Unfortunately, Huawei officials from the country have also declined to comment on the matter. This move also arrives amid the growing pressures from the US, as the company has effectively been banned from using US made technology and software with the recent reinforcements of regulations against the company.

Chinese smartphone maker realme launches realme C17 as the newest member of realme C series of phones. In other words, it is a lite version of realme 7i with Snapdragon 460 and lower megapixel cameras. That said, the handset debuts first in Bangladesh in a single 6GB + 128GB storage configuration priced at BDT 15,990 ($189). Customers can buy it in either Navy Blue and Lake Green color option.

As leaked last week, the all-new realme C17 sports a 6.5-inch HD+ (720 x 1600 pixels) IPS LCD panel on the front with a single-punch hole at the top right corner nesting an 8MP selfie camera, 90Hz refresh rate, 90% screen-to-body ratio, and a peak brightness of 600 nits. This display is also protected by an unspecified version of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Under the hood, the device features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chipset paired with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage. It also includes all the necessary sensors such as light sensor, proximity sensor, compass, and accelerometer.

On the connectivity front, the realme C17 supports 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C. The handset comes with a triple card slot so that users can use dual SIM and a microSD card at the same time.

The back and the frame of the body is made of polycarbonate just like any other realme budget smartphones. This rear panel houses a quad-camera setup consisting of 13MP primary sensor, a secondary 8MP sensor with a 119° ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP tertiary sensor with a macro lens, and a 2MP quaternary monochrome sensor. The back of the device also includes a fingerprint sensor.

As for software, the realme C17 runs realme UI based on Android 10 and should get realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 as it is a new product. Last but not least, it is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging and reverse charging.
