<p>Apple&#8217;s brand new iPhone 16 series might be suffering from a major issue related to its battery life. Users have come forward with complaints regarding their 2024 iPhones getting their batteries drained unusually fast even when left alone. Previously, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/23/iphone-16-pro-display-freezing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 16 Pro users faced display freezing issues</a>, so here&#8217;s everything you need to know regarding this new problem. </p>

<h2>Why are the batteries of the iPhone 16 models dying so quickly?</h2>

<p>Several users of the iPhone 16 series have started complaining about battery drain issues across <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/1fp6cjl/iphone_16_pro_max_not_lasting_long/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Reddit</a>, <a href="https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255761370?page=1&amp;sortBy=newest_first" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple Support Communities</a>, and other forums (Via <em><a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/iphone-16-users-excessive-battery-drain-report/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">91Mobiles</a></em>). All of these point to the same problem, the new iPhones dying too soon. One user stated that his iPhone 16 Pro Max lost around 15 to 20 percent of battery life within a couple of hours despite being on idle. Others also faced an identical issue with their iPhone 16s, claiming that the battery percentage drains rapidly from full charge to 60 percent.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="564" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-1024x564.jpeg?x44794" alt="iPhone-16-feat" class="wp-image-649452" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-1024x564.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-300x165.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-768x423.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-1536x845.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-2048x1127.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-696x383.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-1068x588.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-1920x1057.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-feat-763x420.jpeg 763w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Apple iPhone 16</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Such drain wouldn&#8217;t be too surprising if the phones were being used for intensive tasks like gaming and video recording. However, the issue with these complaints is most iPhones were completely idle. One user even said that his fully charged iPhone 16 went from fully charged and unused overnight to dropping to just 18 percent by morning. Funnily enough, one person put the iPhone 16 Pro through his own experiment, comparing it to the iPhone 14 Pro. </p>

<p>Despite the newer and older iPhone being kept in the same settings and going through the same use, the iPhone 14 Pro only dropped to 85 percent, while the iPhone 16 Pro was at 58 percent. This is a sizeable difference in battery efficiency. It seems like Apple&#8217;s iOS might be the reason behind these issues. So updating to the newest version could fix this problem. Users have even claimed that the iOS 18.0.1 update or iPhone 18.1 beta has helped solve this problem. Unfortunately, the specific reason is still unclear. So stick around for more updates.</p>

<p><a href="https://twitter.com/shubhamdutt13/status/1572098079679188994" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shubham Dutt</a> was the first to break the news on his official Twitter account. In his original tweet, he shared a short message regarding his experience as well as images of the Micromax IN 1 model. He said that the company rolled out an August patch update after a year for the IN 1. However, this update brought about rapid batter draining and a couple of days after, he noticed that the battery had started swelling too.</p>
<p>This got pretty noticeable to the point that the rear panel was bent outward from the middle, prompting him to shut off the device for good. Although, this does not appear to be an isolated event unfortunately. In another tweet, Shubham Dutt searched for others facing the same issues on Twitter and posted screenshots of their grievances as well. This included tweets like &#8220;I&#8217;m facing fast battery draining issue in my Micromax IN 1 Handset.&#8221;</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">So, I just tried checking if it was my unit only or others too, and it looks like I am not the only one. Attaching some screenshots below.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>This was followed by other tweets as well that called out the company for rolling out an update more than a 1 year after the smartphone&#8217;s release, while the update made the device worse in day to day usage. As of right now, the brand has yet to officially respond to this issue that has affected its customers. But stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.</p>

The update which had been suspended twice due to bugs was finally getting a third roll-out.</p>
<p>Not only was it bringing Android Oreo, it also included January&#8217;s security patch, and fixes for the bugs from the last two versions. Sadly, this update also comes with its own bugs including a battery drain that affects a lot of folks.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169964" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mi_a1_battery_drain_issue_comments.png?x44794" alt="Mi A1 battery drain comments" width="994" height="927" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mi_a1_battery_drain_issue_comments.png 994w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mi_a1_battery_drain_issue_comments-300x280.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/mi_a1_battery_drain_issue_comments-768x716.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 994px) 100vw, 994px" /></p>
<p>In our post covering the update, a number of people complained about a battery drain that began after the update. There is also a poll on <em>c.mi.com </em>where nearly 83% of those who took the poll complained of the battery drain.</p>
<p>It is sad to see that Xiaomi can&#8217;t seem to get things right with its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-a1/">Mi A1</a> Oreo update. After three attempts, one would think things would be properly done but unfortunately, that isn&#8217;t the case.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169965" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mi-A1-battery-drain-poll.png?x44794" alt="Mi A1 battery drain poll" width="863" height="569" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mi-A1-battery-drain-poll.png 863w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mi-A1-battery-drain-poll-300x198.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mi-A1-battery-drain-poll-768x506.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mi-A1-battery-drain-poll-540x355.png 540w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mi-A1-battery-drain-poll-730x480.png 730w" sizes="(max-width: 863px) 100vw, 863px" /></p>
<p>Some other users have also reported that the device hangs, restarts while calling, and has heating issues.</p>

<p>Xiaomi has not yet released an official statement regarding the new bugs. We advise you suspend updating your device if you haven&#8217;t done so yet until a fix is available.</p>
