Given that all of them are flagship gaming smartphones, all three devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. Leading the list of top-performing phones is Black Shark 4 Pro which has an average score of 938,991 points.

To make use of the full strength of the Snapdragon 888 SoC, the Black Shark 4 Pro smartphone comes with a “sandwich” three-dimensional liquid cooling system 2.0 for advanced heat dissipation for the 5G chip, processor unit, and 120W charging chip. It is designed with an isolation layout to effectively avoid excessive heat source concentration.

Apart from the above-mentioned three, other smartphones making it to the top-performing Android smartphones list include Vivo X60 Pro+, iQOO 7, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, OPPO Find X3 Pro, Realme GT, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Redmi K40 Pro.

There are a few more flagship smartphones on the way, which are slated to get launched in the coming weeks. Most of the new devices could come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset.
The list is entirely dominated by Snapdragon 888 flagship models which are pretty interesting. The ranking saw the Black Shark 4 Pro retain its number position on top of the chart with an average score of 860467, continuing its strong run-in from last month. However, six of the models that were on the list in March were edged out of the April rankings. The models include the ASUS ROG Phone 5, Vivo X60 Pro+, iQOO 7, Redmi K40 Pro, Meizu 18, and Meizu 18 Pro.

The second spot is occupied by the OPPO Find X3 Pro with an average score of 831801. On the top position is the Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro which averages 828649. Other models on the list include the OnePlus 9 Pro, Lenovo Legion Gaming Phone 2 Pro, Vivo X60 Pro+, iQOO 7, OnePlus 9, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, and the vanilla Mi 11.

AnTuTu also released a ranking of the top 10 best-performing mid-range smartphones. Just like in March, the Redmi 10X with a MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip leads the pack with an average score of 455,838.

The top 10 mid-range models also include the iQOO 3, Huawei Nova 8 Pro, Honor 30, Huawei Nova 8, Huawei Nova 7, Honor X10, Huawei Nova 7 SE, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, and OPPO Reno 5 5G. It is instructive to note that there are six Huawei models on the list of top-performing mid-range models. We expect the ranking to change when that of May is listed, considering the emergence of more premium mid-range models.

According to a TechSina report, the Chinese smartphone maker’s CEO, Luo Yuzhou stated in a post that the lack of chips have led the company’s latest flagship series to go out of stock, especially the Black Shark 4 Pro. The senior executive added that the shortage is quiet serious and that the company is working to raise the output of the production of its smartphones. For those unaware, the chip shortage began last year and has impacted multiple industries like automobiles, smartphones, home appliances, and others.

Furthermore, it is also expected that the prices for various products will rise due to this shortage. This rise will most likely impact consumer electronic products like smartphones, and other home appliances. The Black Shark 4 Pro is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processors, which is based on a 5nm process. This chipset is one of the higher end processors that can be found in most flagship devices.

Unfortunately, while the senior executive has stated that the company is working to raise the inventory for its latest Black Shark 4 series, he has yet to offer any specifics at the moment. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional updates are available.

Design

The design is not very important when it comes to gaming phones, but the position of the various gaming-related elements is. All the phones offer either pressure-sensitive or physical triggers on the borders and/or on the rear side of the device, which is a very useful feature for advanced gamers. But the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has more. Another interesting feature of the Lenovo gaming phone is the side-mounted pop-up camera: it is very useful if you are a YouTuber or you want to stream your games. Further, all the components which generate heat on the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 are placed at the center, far from your hands while you play in landscape mode. On the other hand, the design of the Asus ROG Phone 5 offers compatibility with more external accessories. But the Black Shark 4 Pro is the most elegant one with its punch-hole display.

Display

Do you need the most advanced display in terms of image reproduction? Go for the Asus ROG Phone 5 without thinking twice. Its AMOLED display is able to show up to one billion colors. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 features a wider panel (6.92 inches) and a way higher touch sampling rate (720 Hz!) which is definitely more useful for gamers. All the phones come with a 144 Hz refresh rate and a Full HD+ resolution.

Specs & Software

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2, Asus ROG Phone 5, and Xiaomi Black Shark 4 Pro are all fueled by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, so you actually get the same flagship-class performance level. They all feature up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1, but you should note that only the Black Shark 4 Pro and the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 have configurations with 512 GB of internal storage. The phones are all based on Android 11 but the Asus ROG Phone offers an important additional feature: it gives you the chance to switch to stock Android from a customized user interface.

Camera

These handsets are not camera phones and you should not expect a high photo quality from them. However, they offer pretty nice midrange cameras. The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 is the most surprising because it features an amazing 44 MP front camera: as mentioned above it is side-mounted, a great feature for streamers. When it comes to the rear cameras, these phones are more or less at the same level with their 64 MP main sensors.

Battery

The Asus ROG Phone 5 has the biggest battery with a 6000 mAh capacity. However, it has the slowest fast charging technology with “just” 65W. The Black Shark 4 Pro features whopping 120W fast charging, but it has the smallest battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh. The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 sits in the middle with a 5500 mAh battery and 90W fast charging (if you use two cables).

Price

Asus ROG Phone 5 is priced €799/$950 in its base variant in the global market, Black Shark 4 Pro did not hit the European market (it starts from €516/$614 in China), and Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 starts from €799/$950 as well. Which phone would you pick?

A perfect rival of this handset in the affordable flagship segment is the Black Shark 4 Pro. Unless you want to opt for the ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate, these are the most interesting gaming phones you can find in the market. Here is a comparison between their specifications.

Design

Despite a lot of people who may prefer the attractive rear side of the Asus ROG Phone 5, I personally love the Black Shark 4 Pro because of its narrower bezels around the display and its punch-hole design. However, having thicker bezels is actually an advantage for gamers who want to have a better grip. Further, the RGB logo on the rear side of the Asus ROG Phone 5 and its premium materials make it a very interesting phone in terms of aesthetics.

Display

The display of the Asus ROG Phone 5 is better than Black Shark 4 Pro because it is able to show up to one billion colors. It also offers a wider diagonal which may be better for power gamers. The Asus ROG Phone 5 includes an in-display fingerprint scanner, while the fingerprint reader of the Black Shark 4 Pro is side-mounted. On the rear side, Asus ROG Phone 5 has pressure sensitive zones which can be used as capacitive gaming triggers, while the Black Shark 4 Pro has physical gaming triggers on the side. In both cases, you get an AMOLED panel with very high brightness, the HDR10+ certification, and a 144 Hz refresh rate.

Specs & Software

With the Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Black Shark 4 Pro, you can get a very advanced flagship-class hardware side. They are both fueled by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform paired with up to 16 GB of RAM. The Black Shark is available in a memory configuration with 512 GB of internal storage, while the Asus ROG Phone 5 offers a max of 256 GB. The phones run Android 11 out of the box with a customized user interface, but the Asus ROG Phone 5 can let you switch to stock Android.

Camera

The Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Black Shark 4 Pro are equipped with midrange-class camera setups. The main camera is the same 64 MP f/1.8 sensor, but the Asus ROG Phone 5 has a better ultrawide sensor with a 13 MP resolution. Besides these sensors, you also get a 5 MP macro camera. The Asus ROG Phone 5 is also able to record videos at 8K resolution, while Black Shark goes up to 4K.

Battery

The king of battery here is the Asus ROG Phone 5, and it is also one of the best flagships when it comes to battery life. The Asus ROG Phone 5 packs a huge 6000 mAh battery which can provide a lot of gaming hours and it charges very quickly thanks to its 65W fast charging technology. However, the Black Shark charges even faster with a power of 120W: the fastest commercial charging technology.

Price

The starting price of the Asus ROG Phone 5 is about €493/$580, while the Black Shark 4 Pro carries a €520/$611 starting price (the prices vary depending on the market). Despite the Black Shark 4 Pro features a faster charging technology, the Asus ROG Phone 5 wins the comparison thanks to its bigger battery and great display. It is also better for gamers as it supports a higher amount of external gaming accessories.

Right off the bat, AnTuTu puts out a disclaimer that the monthly test of best performing smartphones and their rankings have been carried out on AnTuTu V8 version. It says that this might be the last list with V8 as V9 is already beginning to take the center stage.

The consideration of devices for the list and the period of statistics is fixed from March 1 to March 31, 2021. Also, the storage variant of all the flagship devices is fixed as 12GB + 256GB. As mentioned above, the Black Shark 4 Pro tops the chart with a whopping score of 765,579 points.

Following that, we have other new entrants like OPPO Find X3 Pro, RedMagic 6 Pro, ASUS ROG Phone 5, and Vivo X60 Pro+ grab the next 4 spots with 742,078, 741,100, 729,300, and 726,216 scores respectively to round up the Top 5.

It is interesting to note that only the X60 Pro+ from February 2021 list makes it to the Top 5 this time. Anyway, the next 3 spots are occupied by the ex-toppers like iQOO 7(725,478), Redmi K40 Pro(719,798), Xiaomi Mi 11(710,581).

Again, the last two spots see new entrants from the Meizu 18 series- Meizu 18(710,459) and Meizu 18 Pro(698,611). To sum up, the entire list is occupied by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and the solo Kirin 9000-powered HUAWEI Mate40 Pro is ruled out.

However, things are totally different for the mid-range devices. To my surprise, the list is almost the same as the February 2021 list with only a change in spot and overall in average scores.

That is, the Redmi 10X 5G leads the way with 399,923 points and the next four devices are Redmi 10X Pro 5G(396,906), Vivo S7t(393,918), HUAWEI nova 7 Pro(390,828), and HUAWEI nova 7(390,575).

The rest of the 5 are HUAWEI nova 8 Pro (388,995) and, HONOR 30 (386,045), HUAWEI nova 8 (385,489), HONOR X10 (359,867), and HONOR 30S (350,307).

If you look closely, the last 7 spots of mid-range devices is entirely dominated by the Kirin chipsets and only the Top-3 have MediaTek’s Dimensity. Sadly, no Snapdragon chipsets are in the vicinity and it shows how rivals have conquered this territory to end Qualcomm‘s dream run.

Black Shark 4 Series Design

Unlike the ASUS ROG Phone 5 series, the Black Shark 4 series comes with minimal design when compared to its predecessors. However, it adopts new mechanical shoulder buttons, which use magnetic power-lifting.

Other than that, the devices sport a simple gradient rear panel with a horizontally-aligned triple camera setup. Also, It is worth noting that the X-gradient on the back of the handsets reminds us of the HONOR X series.

The Black Shark 4 Pro gaming smartphone has now been tested by the folks at DxOMark for the audio experience and the device has managed to score an impressive 81 points.

It scored 83 points in playback and 71 points for recording. DxOMark claims that its team performed a variety of objective tests with more than 20 hours of perceptual evaluation under controlled lab conditions.

The smartphone comes with a fully symmetrical dual loudspeaker design at the top and the bottom for stereo playback, and specific tuning for music, movies, or games. Similar to its predecessors, there’s also a 3.5mm audio jack.

The playback results for the Black Shark 4 Pro are consistent across all use cases, from listening to music to watching movies and playing games. The phone delivers one of the most balanced frequency responses, claims DxOMark.

It offers an impressive low-end extension, impactful and sharp dynamics, an exceptionally wide sound stage, precise localizability, realistic distance rendering, consistent volume steps, and intelligible content even at soft volumes. The noticeable shortcoming includes a slight hiss on specific electronic signals and distortion at loud volumes.

As for the recording, the phone was good and consistent across all use cases. Microphones deliver good low-mids and bass, natural and realistic midrange, precise treble, good high-end extension, great wideness, precise localizability, and accurate distance rendering.

But the device falls behind when it comes to recording in loud environments because of spectral and temporal artifacts. Dynamics are impaired by elevated background noise, and selfie videos exhibit a very narrow sound field.

Overall, the Black Shark 4 Pro is the best audio performer of all the phones tested by DxOMark. The phone is outstanding in terms of playback, outperforming other top-scoring phones, thanks to highly consistent and impressive performance across all use cases.

It is scheduled to go official at 3:00 PM (local time) on March 23 in China. A fresh leak suggests that the Black Shark 4 Pro model may feature a 108-megapixel primary camera.

The Black Shark 4 series’ launch date poster has no information on its specifications. It is believed that the Black Shark model with the KRS-A0 model number that was spotted at Google Play Console, TENAA, and 3C is the Snapdragon 888 SoC powered handset. This device could be arriving in the market as the Black Shark 4 Pro.

The Black Shark 4 duo will come equipped with a 6.67-inch display that may carry support for a 144Hz refresh rate. The Black Shark 4 may support a Full HD+ resolution. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether the Pro model will carry support for a Quad HD+ resolution.

The Black Shark 4 series will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery. Both models are expected to come with 120W fast charging support. The recently unveiled Red Magic 6 Pro and ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate gaming phones are equipped with up to 18 GB of RAM. It is unclear whether the Black Shark 4 Pro will also arrive in an 18 GB RAM edition.

When it comes to photography, the Black Shark 4 Pro will offer users a triple camera setup. A reliable tipster from China claimed today that this model features a main camera of 108-megapixel. The Black Shark 4 may feature a triple camera system led by a 48-megapixel or a 64-megapixel main camera. The Black Shark 4 duo will boot to Android 11 OS.

The Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro phones were made official in early March last year. Hence, the successor models were expected to arrive around the same time this year. It appears that the Black Shark 4 may debut later this month as the Black Shark 3S smartphone has gone out of stock.

The Black Shark 3S went official in July last year in two variants such as 12 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. At present, the 256 GB variant is no longer available at Mi.com, while both models are now out of stock at other retailer sites in China. Black Shark CEO Luo Yuzhou conveyed through Weibo that the Black Shark 3S has gone out of stock as the Black Shark 4 is coming soon.

Recent reports have revealed that there are two versions of the Black Shark 4 with KRS-A0 and PRS-A0 model numbers. It is speculated that these models are powered by the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 870 chipsets, respectively. These devices may break cover as the Black Shark 4 Pro and Black Shark 4. Both devices are expected to be backed a by 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging support.

The Black Shark 4 Pro has a 6.67-inch OLED display that offers a Full HD+ resolution. The standard model may also feature the same screen. In terms of appearance, the Black Shark 4 model seems to appear like a toned-down version of the Pro variant. Both phones have a horizontal camera module, and they are expected to arrive with Android 11 OS preinstalled.

A smartphone with model number KSR-A0 appears on Geekbench 5 with the codename ‘Kaiser’. We have seen reports of this device earlier and it was believed to be the Black Shark 4. However, a tipster recently said that the company had changed plans.

As per the reports, the Black Shark 4 series will include two devices- Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro. Out of this, the ‘Pro’ variant is said to feature the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset while the non-Pro will darn the Snapdragon 870 SoC.

To clear you up, the two smartphones that are believed to belong to the Black Shark 4 series, have the following codenames thanks to various certifications like TENAA, 3C:

Black Shark 4

codename: SHARK PSR-A0(3C)

Black Shark 4 Pro

codename: SHARK KSR-A0(TENAA)

Talking about the Geekbench listing itself, we couldn’t find it on the Geekbench database. However, MySmartPrice has reported it first and from the screenshots, we can see that the device features Adreno 660 GPU, has 12GB RAM, runs Android 11, and scores 1,140 and 3,754 on single and multi-core categories.

If this turns out to be the ‘Pro’ variant, then the device will likely sport a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. This is a downgrade from the 1440p resolution on the predecessor. The devices could also have up to 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging support.

With companies like Nubia, ASUS opting for crazy 16/18GB RAM versions, we wouldn’t be surprised if Black Shark joins this bandwagon in 2021.

Just like last year, the Chinese manufacturer will be announcing two new phones and they will launch as the Black Shark 4 and the Black Shark 4 Pro.

The info comes from the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, and he revealed that the Black Shark 4 will be the model with a Snapdragon 870 processor. The Black Shark 4 Pro will have the more powerful Snapdragon 888 processor.

According to the leaker, the Snapdragon 870 version was supposed to launch as the Black Shark 4 Lite while the Snapdragon 888 version would launch as the Black Shark 4. However, the manufacturer decided to rename the two phones.

Earlier this year, it was officially confirmed that the Black Shark 4 will have support for 120W fast wired charging along with a 4500mAh battery that fully charges in under 15 minutes. The leaker says these features will be standard across both devices. So if you are getting the less-powerful version, you will also get 120W fast charging and a 4500mAh battery.

Another info revealed by the leaker is the screen size and resolution of the pro model. Last year’s Black Shark Pro 3 was one of the phones with the biggest displays with a massive 7-inch screen 90Hz AMOLED panel with a 1440p resolution. This year, Black Shark has cut down not only the screen size but also the resolution. The Black Shark 4 will have a 6.67-inch screen with a 1080p resolution. We don’t know the screen size and resolution of the standard model but the resolution will most definitely be 1080p too.

The new phones should launch this month in China before a global release later.

The model number of the device was found to be KSR-A0. Over the weekend, another Black Shark smartphone with the “penrose” codename appeared at the Google Play Console along with the “PSR-A0” model number. While the Kaiser device was believed to be the Black Shark 4, it is speculated that the Penrose handset could be arriving in the market as the Black Shark 4 Pro.

What is weird about the Google Play Console listing of the PSR-A0 handset is that it is seen with the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform, which powered last year’s Black Shark smartphones. The Kaiser phone was spotted with the dated Snapdragon 835 chipset onboard. The name of the processor seems to be incorrectly mentioned for both handsets at the Google Play Console as they are expected to come with the latest Snapdragon 888 mobile platform.

The alleged Black Shark 4 Pro has 12 GB of RAM and it boots to Android 10 OS.
