In the face of a saturated mobile phone market, OEMs have often shifted their attention to gaming phones. Xiaomi‘s Black Shark brand is one of the strong brands when it comes to gaming phones. The Black Shark 2 was announced recently and one of the rather surprising changes in the design was the removal of an audio jack.

Black Shark 2 comes with DC dimming

The first-gen Black Shark phone came with the 3.5mm audio jack onboard but for some unknown reasons, it was removed on the Black Shark 2. However, Black Shark is reportedly working on returning the feature to upcoming models. TechRadar quotes a spokesperson for Black Shark to have justified dropping the jack by saying, “high-end flagship mobile phones have cancelled 3.5mm headphone jacks a few years ago as it is not in line with the development trend of mobile phones.” The statement continued, “this was a design decision made in conjunction with initial feedback from our audience however after communicating and discussing with gamers further, we realized the importance of the 3.5 headphones for the gamers’ user experience. “We will have 3.5 headphones jack in our future products,” the official hinted.

Despite not having a 3.5mm jack, the Black Shark 2 came with a USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack converter. Unfortunately, it is impossible to use the charging port and still connect a gaming headset or other peripherals at the same time. Thus, most fans want the jack on their gaming phones and it is good Black Shark has listened to their yearnings.
