Xiaomi Black Shark 2 smartphone has bagged 3C certification in China. Some rumors have claimed that the phone may hit the market as Black Shark Skywalker. On 3C, the device has surfaced as SKW-A0 which appears to be the model number of the smartphone. Also, a hands-on image of the phone has also been leaked to reveal its design.

There is no confirmation on whether the upcoming gaming phone from Xiaomi will be called Black Shark Skywalker. The reason why the rumor mill using the said moniker is that a device with the same name had appeared on Geekbench in the previous month. The listing had revealed that the phone is equipped with Snapdragon 855 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie OS.

The 3C approval of a new Black Shark phone with model number SKW-A0 confirms that it will be shipped with 27W charger (MDY-10-EH model number). It is the same charger that is included in the retail box of the Xiaomi Mi 9. Apart from the charging rate of the device, it 3C listing does not contain any other information.

On Weibo, leaksters are claiming that there will be a higher variant of the phone with Snapdragon 855 SoC and 12 GB of RAM. For enhanced gaming, it come with Game Turbo feature. The chin of the device could be as thin as 5mm. Earlier in this month, Xiaomi’s Product Director Wang Teng Thomas had claimed that the next Black Shark phone is a well-designed device and it is packed with exciting features. There are no leaks on the pricing of the smartphone.

The hands-on image of the rumored Black Shark Skywalker reveals that its rear design will not be very different from the original Black Shark phone and Black Shark Helo that were released in 2018. The rear shell of the Black Shark Skywalker is black, and it features green lines. A dual camera setup is available on the top-left corner of the phone’s rear.

In April 2018, Xiaomi had introduced the Black Shark smartphone as its first gaming phone. There is a possibility that the Chinese manufacturer may introduce a new Black Shark gaming phone around the same time this year. Xiaomi’s Product Direct Wang Teng Thomas has confirmed on the existence of the device which indicates that its launch may not be far away.

Recently, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun asked fans on Weibo to express their suggestions and expectations to the Black Shark crew. His Weibo posted reshared by Wang Teng Thomas in which he claimed that he had seen the new Black Shark gaming phone. The translated text of his Weibo post describes as the phone as “full of personality and very cool” which suggests that it could be well-designed phone that is fully loaded with exciting specs. He did not confirm on the name of the device.

After announcing the Black Shark gaming phone in April last year, Xiaomi had released the Black Shark Helo as its second gaming phone. Both phones are powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset, but the Helo smartphone is the world’s first phone to arrive with 10 GB of RAM. What could be the name of the next Black Shark gaming phone? It could be called the Black Shark Skywalker since a phone with the same moniker had appeared on Geekbench benchmarking platform in the previous month.

The Black Shark Skywalker was spotted with Snapdragon 855 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie OS on the benchmarking site. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the smartphone had respectively scored 3494 and 11,149 points. The Black Shark Helo comes in 256 GB storage + 10 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB / 8 GB RAM variants. Hence, there is possibility that the upcoming Black Shark phone could be also available in 10 GB RAM edition

The Snapdragon 855 chipset will be powering the 5G Android phones this year. However, there will be some non-5G phones powered by the same chipset. Hence, there is no confirmation on whether the next Black Shark phone will support 5G connectivity. Also, the other specs of the phone are under the wraps.

A new Xiaomi smartphone labelled as “Blackshark Skywalker” has appeared on Geekbench today. What’s interesting about this listing is that the handset has appeared with the all new Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.

The Geekbench listing of the Black Shark Skywalker shows that it is powered by “msmnile.” Reports from last year had revealed that “nile” is the codename of the 855 chipset while “msm” refers to Snapdragon. The SoC is supported by 8 GB of RAM.

The smartphone is running on Android 9 Pie OS. In the single-core test, the Black Shark Skywalker has scored 3,494 points and in multi-core test, it has recorded a very impressive score of 11,149. These scores similar to other Snapdragon 855 phones seen on Geekbench.

In October, Xiaomi had launched the Black Shark Helo smartphone as the world’s first smartphone with 10 GB of RAM. The smartphone is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. It appears that the Chinese manufacturer could be now gearing up to launch a new Snapdragon 855 SoC powered gaming phone in the next few months. The Black Shark Helo was launched ahead of Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 last year. Hence, there is a possibility that the Black Shark Skywalker may debut in March ahead of Mi MIX 3 5G which is also expected to go official in the same month.

The Snapdragon 855 tags along X50 LTE modem which enables 5G connectivity on devices driven by the chipset. However, some Snapdragon 855 powered phones arriving this year that won’t be supporting 5G connectivity are expected to feature X24 LTE modem. A recent report had revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will be powered by Snapdragon 855 and it will feature X24 LTE modem. There are no details available on the other specs of the Xiaomi Black Shark Skywalker. Hopefully, forthcoming leaks may reveal more information the smartphone.
