Boost has unveiled its e-bike conversion kit and it comes with a battery that looks like a water bottle. The kit was showcased during the UK’s Cycle Show on April 21, 2023. The bulk of the power mechanism in the conversion kit is hidden in the rear hub.

The boost option seems to be an easier way of electrifying your bike when compared with kits in the market. Virtually all the needed gear is built into a custom-made rear hub motor while the circular battery pack sits inside a water bottle-like housing.
The Boost e-bike conversion kit is fitted on the rear of the bicycle. It may mean getting the technician to help set up the bike more easily than doing it yourself. Thereafter, you just need to screw in the bottle cage and ziptie a wire that traverses through the rear wheel to the downtube. The conversion kit lacks a screen as all of the torque sensors are embedded inside the motor for a reduced cost.

The kit has a companion app that can be used to set the power assist to Eco or Boost modes. A short speed boost option is also available although the maximum speed is not specified. The app has a dashboard mode that helps you to keep track of battery usage, speed, and distance covered during a ride. It is possible to mount your phone on the bike’s handlebars to view ride information in real time.

The battery of the Boost e-bike conversion kit has a USB-A port hidden under a dust cover. You can thus charge the bike or run a USB-powered light while riding. The Boost e-bike conversion kit is available in the UK for £695 (~$864) when installed by a local cycling technician. You can save £50 (~$62) if you decide to install the kit yourself. There are no details yet on whether Boost hopes to scale up the distribution of the e-bike conversion kit to other markets.

La Vita has kicked off an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for the Boost e-bike conversion kit. The Boost e-bike conversion kit has a rear wheel with an integrated 250W motor. The kit also contains a battery and handlebar display. The Indiegogo campaign will last for the next 26 days and various discount offers are available for the kit.

The rear wheel motor of the conversion kit has a peak power of 350W and can reach a top speed of about 25km/h. La Vita says the rear position of the motor enhances stability and provides a cleaner ride. The battery is rated 216Wh and La Vita claims it can achieve up to 50km assistance range. A key-operated lock helps to secure the power pack to the bike frame. The battery can be fully recharged in four hours while a USB port provides access to power the lights or charge your smartphone.

The Boost e-bike system can be controlled via an app available on both Android and iOS devices. You can also use the display to control the bike’s settings. The UK-built Boost e-bike conversion kit is compatible with many bicycle models. La Vita is offering a 2,000km warranty for the battery and motor of the conversion kit.

Customers can get the Boost e-bike conversion kit for £549 (~$614). There are other discount offers including purchasing two units at a lower price. The original price of the Boost e-bike conversion kit is £745 (~$834). There are no availability details for interested buyers outside the UK for now.
