The second-generation Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones are the latest addition to the Bose noise-cancelling line of headphones. At first glance, not much has changed; the design is nearly identical to the original QC Ultra, except for a sleeker, polished finish on the bar, which connects the headband and earcups. 

The earcups are still plastic with soft synthetic leather cushions, but the refresh adds a little more polish to the classic QuietComfort look.

While the outside feels familiar, the upgrades inside are more meaningful. The new QC Ultra Headphones support lossless USB-C audio, which delivers clearer, low-latency sound straight from your source device. The 2nd Gen also comes with both 2.5mm and 3.5mm cables in the box for wired listening.

Noise cancellation gets a big upgrade, too. Bose has introduced a new algorithm for adaptive noise control, which reacts more smoothly to sudden sounds like sirens or passing trains. 

For moments when you want to hear the world around you, Aware Mode now adjusts more naturally without making your audio dip or cut out. If you’d rather not use ANC at all, you can fully turn it off or tweak the levels in the Bose app.

Additionally, the headphones have a new Cinema audio profile for movies and shows. It widens the soundstage, pushes dialogue forward, and adds spatial effects for a theater-like experience. Bose says the mode also improves podcast and audiobook listening. 

The 2nd gen QC Ultra headphones can also run longer, offering up to 30 hours of playback (23 with immersive audio on, 45 with ANC off). 

For wireless users, the headphones support Bluetooth 5.4 with multipoint connectivity and a wide range of codecs, including AAC, SBC, and aptX Adaptive for Snapdragon Sound-certified devices.  The headphones also support Google Fast Pair and Spotify Tap. 

Price and availability

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are available for  $450/£450. They come in Black, White Smoke, and two new limited-edition finishes: Driftwood Sand and Midnight Violet.

Bose is back with a refreshed version of its QuietComfort Ultra TWS earbuds, this time finally adding what many felt was missing the first time. Despite the original QuietComfort Ultra being a premium pair of earbuds, they lacked the essential ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) feature. But with the latest refresh, Bose has corrected its course by introducing advanced ANC.

QuietComfort Ultra TWS Refreshed with Bose’s Best ANC

The QuietComfort Ultra Gen 2 is a refresh over the original QuietComfort Ultra, which was announced in early 2024. While these featured great sound quality, the missing noise cancellation was a major aspect that turned many away, owing to their premium price tag. But the new QuietComfort Ultra packs what appears to be the best ANC tech from Bose. The new Quiet Mode is capable of lowering ambient sounds, while the Aware Mode functions as a transparent mode.

Bose’s new flagship earbuds bring CustomTune that let’s users personalize the sound from these earbuds through the Bose app. It analyzes the shape of the ear canal to customize the sound based on the individual. The refreshed QuietComfort Ultra packs four microphone setup for an improved calling experience as well. Among the new features, there is also spatial audio, multipoint Bluetooth connection and support for audio codecs like SBC, AAC, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive.

On a single full charge, the earbuds can offer up to 6 hours of audio playback, with the charging case offering an additional 18 hours. Bose’s new QuietComfort Ultra supports Qi wireless charging as well. It is already listed on the brand’s official website for 299 US Dollars and arrives in three color options, namely white, black, and red.

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds and the Bose Ultra Open earbuds are being upgraded to feature Bluetooth multipoint connectivity. The rollout of the latest software update to the models has already commenced. Bluetooth multipoint pairing means that the two wireless earbuds can now connect simultaneously to two devices.

The absence of Bluetooth multipoint connectivity in the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Ultra Open earbuds was seen as a drawback for the models when they were launched. Bluetooth multipoint connectivity is seen as a standard feature of premium wireless earbuds. Apart from Bluetooth multipoint functionality, the new software update comes with a couple of bug fixes for the Ultra Open earbuds. The bug fixes include improved connection stability and voice pickup optimizations.

The Bluetooth multipoint upgrade enables the QuietComfort Ultra and Ultra Open earbuds to be suited for multitasking when the user is working on two devices. The rollout of the Bluetooth upgrade began on July 10 but it is unclear whether all the devices have received the upgrade. Users can check whether the update is available on their wireless earbuds via the Bose app.

The procedure entails connecting the wireless buds to your phone and clicking the Settings menu to navigate to the Product Update option. After tapping Product Update and downloading the update, you can then install which will make the earbuds reboot and reconnect with the phone. The Multipoint Connection is available in the Source tap and you can turn it on when you want to connect the earbuds to two devices at the same time.

Audio maker Bose is reportedly working on two new devices in the company’s QuietComfort lineup. These are said to be the QuietComfort Ultra over-ear headphones and the QuietComfort Ultra TWS earbuds. Now, both devices have surfaced in leaked renders, courtesy of reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka onleaks). The TWS earphones will likely arrive as the successor to the Earbuds II that debuted last September. The leaked images give us a good look at the audio devices. 

Bose QuietComfort Ultra, Ultra Earbuds leaked renders

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra are over-ear headphones. They feature the same design as other QuietComfort headphones. The leaked renders reveal a large ear cup with a cushion that should offer a comfortable wearing experience for longer hours of usage. It’s likely that the headphones also feature an adjustable headband. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra is seen with physical buttons that will enable users to control the music playback and adjust the volume. There is also a USB-C port for connectivity. 

As for the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, they retain the same design as the Earbuds II. The TWS earphones look slimmer with a semi-in-ear design. There are slightly angled silicone ear tips and a small hook on the top for a better and more secure fit. 

Both the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Ultra TWS Earbuds will be available in Black and White color options. The key specifics of the upcoming audio devices remain under the wraps for now. 

Meanwhile, a report from Deallabs reveals that the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones will e priced at EUR 499.95 whereas the Ultra Earbuds will cost EUR 349.95 in France. The brand is also rumored to be launching another QuietComfort headphones priced at EUR 399.
