Ulefone has announced its new RugKing series, a fresh lineup of budget-friendly rugged smartphones designed for outdoor users and professionals. The first model, called simply the Ulefone RugKing, will officially launch on September 15, 2025. It will be available worldwide through AliExpress, the official Ulefone store, and other global online platforms.

The phone comes with a starting price of $219.99, but buyers can grab it during the first week on AliExpress at a discounted launch price of $149.99, saving $70.

Built to Survive Harsh Conditions

The RugKing is designed for people who need their phones to survive in tough environments. It carries MIL-STD-810H, IP68, and IP69K certifications, making it resistant to water, dust, and extreme conditions. The device can survive drops from up to 2 meters and is fully waterproof for submersion up to 2 meters for 30 minutes. This makes it a reliable companion for workers in construction, adventure travelers, and anyone exposed to rugged conditions daily.

Another standout feature is the uSmart 2.0 connector, which allows the phone to connect with Ulefone’s range of professional accessories, adding more flexibility for fieldwork and outdoor activities.

Loud and Clear Audio

One of the biggest highlights of the RugKing is its powerful 126dB loudspeaker. The speaker, with a 36mm diameter and 11.5 CC sound cavity, delivers sound that is louder than busy traffic. With 3.5W rated power, it is designed to withstand rough use while being both waterproof and drop-resistant. This extra-loud audio means users don’t need to carry an additional outdoor speaker, making it ideal for camping trips, outdoor parties, or job sites where loud sound is necessary.

Display and Performance

The RugKing comes with a 5.99-inch display that offers 910 nits of brightness, ensuring good visibility even under strong sunlight. It is powered by the Unisoc T7255 octa-core chipset, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. This setup provides smooth performance for browsing, gaming, and streaming media. For a rugged phone in the budget range, this level of storage and processing power makes it quite attractive.

Camera and Flashlight

The phone features a 50MP main camera and a 2MP macro camera for close-up shots. While it is not aimed at professional photography, it ensures decent outdoor and work-related photography. In addition, the RugKing includes a 126-lumen glare flashlight, offering powerful brightness similar to a torch. This makes it useful for camping, night work, or emergencies.

Massive Battery for Long Use

Battery life is another strong point. With a 9600mAh capacity, the RugKing ensures long-lasting endurance, which is essential for outdoor users who cannot charge their devices frequently. This makes it well-suited for extended trips or professional tasks in remote areas.

Launch Promotions and Giveaway

To celebrate the launch, Ulefone is hosting a promotional event with exciting giveaways. The grand prize is the Ulefone Armor 29 Pro Thermal, one of the brand’s flagship rugged devices. More details about the event and participation are available on Ulefone’s official website and social media channels.

With its tough design, extremely loud speaker, huge battery, and attractive launch price, the Ulefone RugKing positions itself as one of the most affordable yet durable rugged phones in the market. It is aimed at outdoor workers, travelers, and anyone needing a phone that can survive where regular smartphones cannot.

The HOMTOM ZOJI Z9 is one of the latest budget rugged smartphones that has a nice design, pretty good specs, huge battery and obviously, this device can take a beating. As usual, let’s take a look at all the pros and cons of this device.

Coolicool 11th Anniversary Carnival

UNBOXING

The phone ships with all the usual stuff and some extras include a headphone jack adapter, USB OTG cable, and a screen protector.

DESIGN

The Homtom Z9 has a body that can take a beating as the phone is shockproof, water-resistant and dustproof thanks to IP68 certification.

What surprised me the most was the fact that the device has a glass backplate.

The device has a nice aluminum rail with chamfered edges that goes all around the device. The top and bottom of the phone are made of shock-resistant rubber. The USB-C power port is covered with a flap. Unfortunately, the phone does not have a headset jack. The overall build quality is very good. The phone feels sturdy, the buttons are nice.

The phone is relatively thin and compact considering the fact it has a massive 5500mAh battery. Also, the device does not feel heavy in the hand due to good weight distribution.

That battery lasts for a long time. I was able to get almost 19 hours of screen-on time on a single charge. While you may not achieve this result all the time if you use the phone more intensively, you will always feel confident that the battery will last you a long time.

You can also use the phone for as a power bank to charge other devices. In addition, the supplied fast charger fully charges the phone in just over 2 hours.

The display is really nice and sharp thanks to In-cell technology. The panel looks vibrant and beautiful both indoors and outdoors.

The fingerprint scanner is accurate but the display could light up faster. Also, it is implemented near the cameras, so you may need a few days to get used to the position of it. The face unlock feature is reliable too but I found myself using the fingerprint scanner as it is simply faster.

Other notable features include a dual-camera system (21+2MP) on the back, a 13MP shooter on the front, LED notification light and a hybrid dual SIM card tray.

The loudspeaker may have a bit more depth but overall it’s pretty good. Also, it can get quite loud.

HARDWARE

The phone ships with the Helio P23 CPU, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

The gaming performance is kind of mediocre. You should expect to see quite a bit of stutter in games like Asphalt Xtreme. There will also be some skipped frames in the Shadow fight 3 and finally, the Pubg is playable only on low graphics settings but there will still be quite a few skipped frames and lag. Overall, this is not the best phone for gamers, unless you like playing games with reduced graphics settings.

USER INTERFACE

The Homtom Zoji Z9 ships with Android 8.1. Right off the batt, you can notice that the phone is really fast and snappy thanks to the stock Android interface.

There are some added features like gesture and motion controls that work fine but that’s about it. No bloatware, no gimmicky features, just pure Android experience.

IMAGE QUALITY

The main camera can take nice pictures in good lighting. I can’t say all pictures are perfect but this is one of the better camera setups in a budget rugged phone as you can get some nice images out of it. The portrait shots use mostly software to mimic DSLR bokeh effect and the low-light camera performance could be better but this is what you need to expect from most of the budget phones.

The selfie image quality is quite decent but colors are usually washed out and there could be less noise.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jud9TNWLsfQ[/embedyt]

1080p video looks okay but there could be more detail in the footage and continuous auto-focus is kind of slow.

1080p selfie video quality is mediocre as there could be more detail in the footage.

CONNECTIVITY

Connectivity-wise, the Homtom Zoji Z9 is pretty good. Call quality has been good, I had no issues with signal reception and GPS has been working fine.

The device also has NFC and a few sensors including a gyroscope for 360 content. Finally, the phone has a heart rate monitor.

CONCLUSIONS

The Homtom Zoji Z9 is a phone that offers a rugged design and quite a few other features but let’s summarise all the pros and cons.

For the price of about $230, you get a phone that is well-built, it is water and dust resistant and it can survive a few drops. In addition, I like a sharp display, very good battery life and stock Android that assures fast and snappy day-to-day performance. Finally, the camera can take nice daylight pictures. However, the gaming performance is mediocre and bokeh-like pictures taken with the help of depth sensor do not look great.

At the end of the day, the Homtom Zoji Z9 looks like a solid budget rugged phone as it does not have many flaws to consider, especially for the price.

The Chinese phone maker Doogee seems to be producing more and more rugged phones. The S50 is a pretty good device that I recently reviewed but today I wanted to show you guys a bit cheaper slimmed down version of it – the S55. It offers great specs, rugged body and a huge battery for the price of just about $150.

VIDEO REVIEW

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUnM86FjEBM[/embedyt]

UNBOXING

The phone ships with all the usual stuff and some extras include a screen protector.

DESIGN

Once you pick the phone up, it’s obvious this is a rugged phone since it is larger, thicker and heavier than your usual smartphone.

That is because Doogee S55 has the IP-68 rating meaning that it is water and dust resistant. Also, the rugged body assures that the phone will survive a few accidental drops. Unlike some other budget rugged phones, there are flaps that cover the ports to avoid water damage.

Unlike on the Doogee S50, the headset jack flap is easier to open.

The overall build quality is solid as the phone is built to last. Despite a huge footprint, it’s quite comfortable to hold the phone in the hand. Also, the device is relatively thin considering a huge battery inside.

Battery lasts for a long time, just like on the Doogee S50. You can get up to 18 hours of screen on time under light usage but if you use the phone more intensively, you should expect to get about 11 hours of SOT. It takes over 3 hours to fully charge the phone with the supplied charger which is a pretty good result considering the size of the battery.

I found the 18:9 display to be quite nice and sharp despite the fact it’s only HD+. Also, the sunlight legibility is above average.

Other features include a dual-camera system on the back, nice and tactile buttons and a fingerprint scanner that is quite accurate but there display could light up faster. On the front, there is a single camera system as opposed to dual selfie cameras found on the Doogee S50.

Removing and inserting the side-mounted SIM card tray is quite easy. You just need to open up the flap and use a sim ejector pin to remove it.

I’m a bit disappointed that the capacitive buttons are not backlit and there is no LED notification light. Lastly, the loudspeaker quality is not really good. The sound is tinny and flat just like on the Doogee S50.

HARDWARE

As far as hardware goes, the S55 ships with a pretty nice looking list of specs, considering the price. The gaming performance is good considering this is a budget rugged phone. You should be able to play most of the games without significant lag but obviously, there will be some skipped frames and stutter in some titles.

USER INTERFACE

As opposed to Doogee S50, the S55 ships with the Android 8 out of the box. The user interface preserves stock look but there are some design changes and added features like gesture and motion controls that actually work quite well. After using the phone for nearly 3 weeks, I can assure it is fast and smooth most of the time.

IMAGE QUALITY

The overall image quality is not really good. There could definitely be more detail and the colors are usually washed out. Low light pictures do not look great either. Same can be said about selfies and the portrait shots that have artificial background blur effect.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugIe_YqLxJY[/embedyt]

1080p video quality is mediocre as the footage comes out very shaky.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLUj7YNrGlc[/embedyt]

Selfie video can be recorded only in 480p, which is really frustrating. On the other hand, the quality of the footage is quite decent.

CONNECTIVITY

As for connectivity, the Doogee S55 is pretty good. Call quality is decent, there were no issues with signal reception and GPS is accurate while using for navigation.

There is also a gyroscope sensor on board so you can watch 360 content or play VR games with this phone.

CONCLUSIONS

The Doogee S55 is quite a decent budget rugged phone but it definitely has a few flaws to consider.

The main shortcoming is poor image quality. You should also know that the capacitive buttons are not backlit, there is no LED notificaitpn light and the loudspekaer quality is not great.

On the other hand, you get a nice-looking water and dust resistant phone that is well-built and it can take a beating, the Doogee S55 is quite a fast device on the daily basis and you can even play some 3D games on it. Finally, the battery life has been great thanks to a huge 5500mAh power bank.

At the end of the day, if you are looking for a budget rugged phone, the Doogee S55 might be a good option to check out if you don’t mind a few shortcomings.
