<p>The news arrives from a joint announcement from both companies early this week. According to <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 css-bfa6kz r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"><em><a href="https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1488210539276902407" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jason Schreier</a></em>, the Japanese tech giant is buying the game developer for a massive deal that is valued at 3.6 billion US Dollars. Notably, this move comes just two weeks after <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/19/microsoft-acquires-activision-blizzard-game-studio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Microsoft had acquired Activision Blizzard</a>. Although, the latter&#8217;s deal was worth a substantial 60 billion US Dollars. But, Bungie has a great track record and titles under its belt as well, and are a known name in the gaming industry.<br />
</span></span></p>
<p>With the launch of the original Halo, the company had seemingly revolutionized FPS titles for the console. It even introduced mechanics that are staple in games as well. Microsoft had initially bought Bungie and brought Halo as an exclusive flagship title for its Xbox gaming console, however, Bungie became an independent entity after making a few sequels within the Halo franchise. Through this acquisition, the friction between both console makers heat up as they are likely preparing to collide in the next gen gaming market, which may likely include the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/metaverse/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Metaverse</a> as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-298824 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sony-logo.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="550" height="366" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sony-logo.jpg 550w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sony-logo-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px" /></p>
<p>In a<a href="https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50988" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> blog post</a> (Via <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2022/01/31/sony-snaps-up-halo-and-destiny-creator-bungie-for-3-6b/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>TechCrunch</em></a>) CEO Pete Parsons stated that &#8220;Today, Bungie begins our journey to become a global multi-media entertainment company. We remain in charge of our <a href="https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/50989" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">destiny</a>. We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games. With SIE’s support, the most immediate change you will see is an acceleration in hiring talent across the entire studio to support our ambitious vision.”</p>
