Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Deal Details

The smartwatch was launched at a retail price of $450, and nowadays, it usually retails for ~$380. Presently, if we consider the discount, then you can get it for $299 from Amazon or Best Buy. It is $6 short of the lowest price the smartwatch witnessed at the Black Friday sale extravaganza.

Buy Galaxy Watch 5 Pro on Amazon

Is it Worth Buying Galaxy Watch 5 Pro ?

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro could be a good upgrade if you’re looking for a fleet of new features at an affordable price. Being the top choice, the recent price discount on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro from Samsung seems like the icing on the cake. Improved charging and performance on the Galaxy Watch 5 series make it a worthwhile upgrade over the old Galaxy Watch models.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro still stands among the finest Android smartwatches available on the market. At this price point, it is the best smartwatch deal out there for now. It’s great attention to detail in the design, build quality, improved performance, and enhanced battery are some features that make it a deal worth noting.

Upgrades in Galaxy Watch 6?

However, if you’d like to spend more, then its successor, the Galaxy Watch 6, could be the best option. It brings a larger display and a new bezel design among the new changes. There are no significant hardware changes that you will miss while using the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
Canada recently prohibited the use of Chinese messaging app WeChat and Russian antivirus software Kaspersky on government-issued devices. The ban comes amid concerns over privacy and security, according to the Treasury Board of Canada. This raises a question: Is the ban a defensive move for the nation, or is it influenced by the current geopolitical climate?

The decision came after an assessment by Canada’s Chief Information Officer

The decision to ban the apps was made after an assessment by Canada’s chief information officer. While the Treasury Board stated that no government information has been compromised, they described the apps as posing “clear” risks. Interestingly, this move aligns with Canada’s earlier action of banning TikTok in February for similar reasons. However, the abruptness of the decision left Kaspersky “surprised and disappointed,” highlighting the absence of a warning or a chance to address the government’s concerns.

Kaspersky argues that the ban is more of a geopolitical maneuver than an evaluation of the app’s security measures. The company claims that no evidence has been presented to justify the action. The silence from WeChat further deepens the mystery. Could it be that Canada is following suit with its international partners rather than solely focusing on the apps’ security issues?

The Treasury Board was quick to point out that their decision aligns with the approach of international partners. This points to a broader trend of countries tightening digital borders, particularly against Chinese and Russian tech companies. However, the lack of disclosed evidence to support the ban raises questions about the transparency of the decision-making process.

While Canada assures that the ban is to keep its government networks secure, the absence of a transparent evaluation and the geopolitical implications suggest that the story might be more complex than it appears. This move could be a blend of genuine security concerns and a reflection of international politics. But without further information, the true motive remains a subject of debate. Only time will spill the beans. Or maybe not.

Now, it seems that Canada could also join the list of countries that have banned Huawei from their 5G infrastructure.

Canada’s opposition parties passed a non-binding motion in the parliament which was put forward by the Conservatives. It is calling China a threat to the Candian interests and values and urges Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ban Huawei.

It is also urging the government to draft a plan to “combat China’s growing foreign operations” in Canada. Conservative leader Erin O’Toole said, “We call on the Liberal government to finally grow a spine and make a decision on Huawei’s involvement in Canada’s 5G network.”

The government has delayed deciding which companies can supply equipment for 5G networks. On the other hand, Canada’s allies in the intelligence-sharing Five Eye group, which includes the US, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand have banned Huawei. Trudeau says that the government awaits recommendations from intelligence agencies.

Canada has been stuck in the middle of the US-China trade war ever since it arrested Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver on an arrest warrant from the United States. In retaliation, China arrested two Canadian citizens for alleged spying, who have been imprisoned ever since.

5G technology is now going mainstream and is said to be the next-big-thing. It offers data speeds up to 50 or 100 times faster than 4G networks. This means that it is a key element for the next generation of innovative technologies, from telemedicine to self-driving cars.

The United States banned Huawei last year claiming that it poses national security because of the company’s alleged ties with the Chinese Communist Party, without showing any proof. However, Huawei has denied all such allegations.

According to a ChinaDaily report, Yan Lida, Director of the board and senior vice president of Huawei said that the company has been investing in countries like Canada for more than a decade now, to help sustain its local economy through its employment efforts. At the moment, the Chinese tech giant is one of the largest corporate investors in the region and employs over 1,200 people. Furthermore, the company has even created over 5,000 indirect jobs as well.

So, the senior official mentioned that Huawei will continue to raise its investments and employment in the country. The statement was issued by Yan during a panel discussion on “Investment in Canada” at the Canada China Business Council’s 42nd Annual General Meeting Business Forum, which was held in Beijing, China. However, despite this, Yan also warned of potential risks in companies investing in Canada as the Chinese companies must now take proper safeguards due to the growing challenges in the global business environment.

Dace Murphy, consul general of Canada in Shanghai, said that Canada remains to be one of the important destinations of outbound investments for Chinese investors, even during the many challenges being faced during the Coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Murphy stated that “It has been a difficult year for all of us as the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the global economy … China’s situation is different from others as it is recovering rapidly after the difficulties during the first few months of this year.”

As if multiple delays for the launch wasn’t enough, the company is creating another issue for the buyers.

In Canada, the company has started sending out trade-in kits to those who have pre-ordered the Pixel 4a smartphone on the launch date. The kit expires a month from when it was dispatched. Those who pre-ordered the phone have an expiration date in the first week of September, after which the old phone loses trade-in value.

EDITOR’S PICK: Microsoft Surface Duo ships on September 10, priced at $1399 and features Cloud-powered Windows 10

However, the issue with this is that the company will start shipping the Pixel 4a smartphone to the buyers from 10th September, which means that it will reach customers somewhere around mid-September.

So essentially, Google is expecting Pixel 4a buyers to send in their older device even before they receive their newly ordered smartphone. It seems that Google has messed up again with the logistics department given that the trade-in kit has an instruction document that shows how to transfer data from the older device to the new phone.

This seems limited to the Canadian market only because there have not been any such reports from other regions. Ideally, the trade-in kit should be received after the customers have got their hands on the new phone.

For those unaware, the founder’s daughter was arrested and detained in Vancouver with a request pending for a US extradition. The arrest for Meng Wanzhou was made in December 2018 with the involvement of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). This soured the diplomatic relations between Ottawa and Beijing. Meng is also the chief financial officer for Huawei in China.

The CSIS report that revealed the shock waves were recently disclosed in the court documents and were a part of Meng’s extradition proceedings. In the report, the CSIS advised the US FBI of plans to arrest her when she landed at Vancouver International Airport. The report stated that “the arrest is likely to send shockwaves around the world. The planned event will be of great consequence internationally and bilaterally.”

U.S. authorities are also seeking the extradition of Huaweis Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, to stand trial in the U.S. on fraud charges. Meng is currently under house arrest in Canada, though Huawei maintains the U.S. case against her is purely political. Despite the U.S. campaign against the company, Huawei is determined to lead the global charge toward adopting 5G wireless networks. It has hired experts from foreign rivals, and invested heavily in R&D to patent key technologies to boost Chinese influence. (Photo by Kevin Frayer/Getty Images)

Lawyers from Huawei have used the documents as proof that authorities from both countries have conspired against Meng; who is held for bank fraud and misleading HSBC. The charges were put on Meng after false statements regarding Huawei’s relationship with a company based in Iran. This was a notable issue since HSBC would be under risk for fines and penalties for breaking US sanctions around Tehran.

Telus, a Canadian telecommunications operator, had previously appealed to the Government to not ban Huawei. As of right now, Huawei is one of the few industry leaders in the newer and faster bandwidth, and Telus warned that the cost of 5G network will be significantly higher if the Chinese company is not allowed to operate in the region; similar to the situation in the UK.

Notably, Huawei has faced multiple accusations regarding data security. The US has actively advocated to ban the company’s operations in its regions and also pressured other regions as well. Examples of this are the recent accusation regarding the smartphone manufacturer was allegedly stealing trade secrets to help Iran track protesters.

Furthermore, Meng Wanzhou, the CFO of Huawei, is still in Canadian custody after being arrested by the local government back in 2018. The senior executive is being held until the decision of extraditing him to the US is finalized. The Conservative Party of Canada has stated that Justin Trudeau’s, the current Prime Minister of Canada, Liberal Party has refused to take a strong stance regarding Huawei.

Mirko Bibic, the CEO of Montreal based BCE, stated that the company has been a “great partner” in an interview earlier this week. Notably, the opinions of the senior executive arrive as the Canadian Government is debating the decision that revolves around whether or not the Chinese company is allowed in being a major partner for the development plans.

Since Meng Wanzhou, the CFO of Huawei, was arrested back in December 2018 in Canada, the tensions between the two regions have been on the rise. At one point, the Chinese authorities had even terminated Canadian agricultural imports of a sizable amount of 5 billion CAD (roughly 3.8 billion US Dollars). Furthermore, the current Prime Minister of Canada has stated that the decision of allowing Huawei to operate in the country should be a non-political one.

Many western regions including certain countries in Europe are also facing a similar dilemma of allowing Huawei to operate in their home countries. The fear of each Government is data being accessed by the Chinese Government which has faced increasing scrutiny across the globe. Nations like Australia have already banned the Chinese firm while the US blacklisted Huawei in early 2019.

BCE is the largest telecommunications firm in Canada. Thus, 5G networking is the most obvious advancement in the field to further its own growth. However, Huawei is one of the leading providers of 5G related infrastructure and supplementing technology, but the company on numerous counts has been alleged to have ties with the Chinese Government.

ABC Communications has partnered with the Huawei to test broadband in the rural areas of western British Columbia. Currently, the Canada telecom will test the service within a small area and then will expand to more regions.

It is quite surprising that on one hand, the Canadian government is taking a tough stance against Huawei. But country’s telecom player, ABC communication is making a new deal with Huawei for expanding its broadband reach across the country. Speaking on occasion, Eric Li, president of Huawei Canada has welcomed the move. He said in a statement that the company was “proud to provide a solution to this unique Canadian challenge” in the announcement.

Recently, in a US-China trade War, Canada made an entry by arresting Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou from Vancouver airport at the request of American Authorities. Since then, China has been finding ways to take on Canada. Although, the home country of Huawei has arrested two Canadians and sentenced one of them to the death penalty under an apparent act of retaliation.

Huawei has received a lot of flak in the past few months as the US and its allies have excluded the company from 5G networking plans. Various countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and others have banned Huawei for participating in 5G plans. Though, Canada is now reconsidering about its stance on Huawei’s inclusion in the new era networking plans.

Whatever the thing is, this new partnership is a step ahead in providing faster speed internet in the rural areas. It will also serve the Canadian Government’s task to increase overall internet speed in rural Canada. Earlier, Canada planned to trade rural internet services for the 5G networks in Cities, but now there will be some other model to serve the purpose.
