Additionally, plans are underway to introduce three BEV models based on a high-voltage platform in the second half of 2024, signaling a strategic shift towards all-electric mobility solutions.

In terms of sales targets, Li Auto is aiming for 800,000 annual BEV sales by 2024, with a specific focus on achieving at least 400,000 unit sales for existing models. The company has set ambitious sales goals for individual models, including a monthly target of 30,000 units for the Li L6 EREV and 8,000 units for the upcoming Li Mega BEV.

Regarding charging infrastructure coverage, Li Auto aims to cover 90% of China’s highway mileage and major cities by 2025, with further expansion planned to meet the needs of 920,000 BEV owners in tier 4 and 5 cities by the same year.

American Honda has struck major partnerships with Electrify America and EVgo. These collaborations aim to build a nationwide charging network that will benefit future owners of Honda and Acura electric vehicles.

Here’s why this is big news: At the moment, neither Honda nor Acura offer a pure EV in the U.S. market. However, by 2024, we can expect the Honda Prologue EV and the 2024 Acura ZDX electric SUVs to hit the roads. Honda forecasts that these alliances could unleash up to 100,000 DC fast chargers by 2030, making charging as convenient as fueling up at a gas station.

In an industry-first move, the company plans to offer charging credits across multiple networks. These packages could range from a $750 EVgo public charging credit to a $500 home charging installation credit. What this means for customers is that Honda is not just selling a car; they’re selling an entire eco-system of convenience.

What truly sets Honda apart in this journey toward electrification is its one-app solution. Future Honda and Acura EV owners will be able to manage all their charging needs via the HondaLink and Acura EV apps. These apps will handle everything from payment for charging to locating stations and even enrolling in subscription plans.

Although both upcoming EVs will share underpinnings with GM models, Honda seems intent on offering something unique to its customer base. This move towards customer-centric solutions is further exemplified by Honda’s involvement in creating ChargeScape, LLC. Japan is gearing up to supercharge its EV infrastructure, aiming for a major overhaul by the end of the decade. Recent insights from Nikkei suggest the nation’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is setting ambitious benchmarks to bolster its fast-charging provisions.

The advancement of charging systems in Japan is far behind Europe and the US

The focal point of METI’s plans is a mandate to increase the charging power of highway stations. The current standard, averaging at 40 kW, is anticipated to change to 90 kW by 2030. While these figures represent a significant bump, they surprisingly lag behind global expectations. Why? This conservative 40 kW average is the result of an aggressive installation of 50 kW CHAdeMO chargers during the early Nissan Leaf phase, which, despite their sheer numbers, provide sub-optimal charging durations due to their limited power.

However, the proposed 90 kW, though an improvement, seems inadequate for future EVs. While select high-traffic zones might witness 150 kW chargers, it is pretty low in comparison to Europe and the US, where it’s a whopping 250-350 kW, especially along interstates and other important highways.

METI’s holistic approach isn’t just confined to power increments. Plans also encompass denser charger placement, with one every 44 miles along highways, sweetened by the allure of subsidies for operators.

Transitioning from time-based to energy-specific pricing, METI plans to achieve a pay-per-kWh system, targeting an on-the-go payment model by possibly 2025. This could prove pivotal in attracting users by offering transparency and convenience.

METI’s actions undeniably align with the global electrification run. However, the metrics, especially regarding power, remind us to exercise caution rather than audacity. For Japan to fully embrace the EV revolution’s spirit, it might need to lay out its plans and the resources the country needs to achieve those high ambitions.

In an effort to boost the sluggish growth of its electric vehicle (EV) market, the Chinese government is aggressively working towards the expansion of charging infrastructure for new energy vehicles like electric cars. Simultaneously, they are also focusing on implementing policies that incentivize and facilitate the transition to battery-powered cars among rural motorists.

Following a routine meeting, the cabinet expressed that the enhancement of charging infrastructure for new energy vehicles has the potential to unlock rural consumption and contribute to the growth of rural tourism. This initiative is expected to invigorate rural revitalization efforts, providing fresh momentum to the overall development of rural areas.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Administration of Energy (NEA), the leading authorities in economic planning, have issued a collective appeal for the accelerated deployment of charging infrastructure in remote areas.

The NDRC has emphasized the importance of financial incentives offered by local governments to facilitate the establishment of EV charging stations. They have urged for an extended reach of these facilities, ensuring coverage in additional counties, villages, and rural highways. Furthermore, the commission has called upon electric car manufacturers to broaden their product portfolios, aiming to better cater to the unique demands of rural markets

Xin Guobin, the vice minister at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealed that the government is actively examining policies to stimulate auto consumption and support the modernization of China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market. This comes as the NEV market faces challenges arising from weak domestic demand.

The limited purchasing power among rural residents stands as a significant obstacle to the widespread adoption of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in rural areas, said Zhang Xiang, a visiting professor at Huanghe Science and Technology University’s engineering department. To address this challenge, Zhang suggests that cash incentives provided by local governments and car manufacturers, along with the introduction of affordable car models, will play a pivotal role in driving NEV adoption in rural regions.

The government’s focus on promoting auto consumption, supporting NEV market modernization, and expediting the establishment of advanced manufacturing clusters reflects their commitment to bolstering the innovation-driven growth of China’s industries and securing the robustness of the nation’s industrial supply chains.

XPeng has just announced that it is launching its first batch of S4 super fast charging stations for electric vehicles in China. Earlier today (17th February 2023), the company rolled out these new EV charging stations in two major cities.

The Chinese smart electric vehicle maker had first introduced their S4 super fast charging stations for EVs back in 2022. And now, the company is finally releasing the first batch of these EV charging stations in the city of Shenzhen and Guangzhou. This wasn’t the only milestone since the brand also announced that it has managed to launch more than a 1,000 self operated charging stations that cover all prefecture level administrative regions and municipalities across the region.

As of right now, XPeng Motors has 58 charging stations in Shenzhen, out of which 5 are the new S4 super fast charging stations, 22 of these are its self operated charging stations (including its S4), and a total of 36 for its third party charging stations. On the other hand, it has a total of 79 charging stations in Guangzhou, out of these 6 are S4 super fast charging stations, 52 self operated XPend charging stations (includes S4 models as well), and 27 from third party charging stations.

In other words, the electric vehicle manufacturer is clearly focusing on expanding its network, which would help EV owners and prospective buyers in the future. With such a robust network in China, XPeng car owners can rest easy with the vast number of charging stations during trips between these cities as well.

UNBOXING

The device comes in a neat looking box and the contents include the charging station itself, a power cord and some documentation.

DESIGN

The Tronsmart charger is made of high-quality plastic and the build quality is excellent despite not using any premium materials like metal.

On one side there is a power input port and the power on/off switch, which works great and it doesn’t seem to break anytime soon.

The star of the show here are 5 USB ports and all of them have a combined power output of 90W or 18W per port. A key feature is that each port supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology and a smart charging tech, which detects the device you plugged in and charges it at the maximum speed possible.

There is not much going on the bottom side. A great thing is that there are rubber pads that help with the grip and prevent the charging station from sliding on the table.

Overall, I’m very happy with the design and build quality of the Tronsmart Titan charging station. Also, it is very compact and lightweight given the feature set it has.

FUNCTIONALITY

You can charge 5 devices at the same time and it worked fine during my testing period.

Once you power on the device, a green LED light up.

We have tested the charging station with various devices that included the ones which support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 feature (e.g. Letv Le 1 Pro) and the ones that don’t . Our test results have shown that the Tronsmart charging station is indeed capable of providing very fast charging speeds. In fact, the device even outperformed the original chargers that are shipped with smartphones (e.g. Lenovo ZUK Z1).

CONCLUSIONS

The Tronsmart Titan 10A/90W 5-Port USB Charger Charging Station does what it is being advertised for. It has 5 ports that are capable of charging your gadgets quickly. 

A great thing that this charging station supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 but if your smartphone or other device does not have Snapdragon chip, the Tronsmart charger is still able of recognising the type of the device you connected to it and provides the fastest charging speeds possible.

All in all, Tronsmart Titan 10A/90W 5-Port USB Charger Charging Station may not be the only product of its kind but does all the thing right and it can be recommended to buy if you are in the market of charging stations.
