Opera has announced a new version of its web browser called Opera One. A major addition to the software is an AI-powered chatbot called Aria.

Similar to the Bing chatbot in Microsoft Edge, the Aria chatbot also resides within the sidebar of the browser and can answer questions using real-time information, give suggestions, and more.

Apart from the AI-powered chatbot Aria, the browser also comes with a redesigned look and feel and some new features which aim to make the browsing experience intuitive and productive.

It comes with a feature called Tab Islands, a new way of organizing tabs into groups that are related to each other. Users can create different Tab Islands for work, personal, etc., and can quickly switch between them.

The Aria chatbot, which can search the web, generate text, and write code, is powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology — the same technology that is powering Bing from Microsoft. To use the tool, users need to sign up for an Opera account if they don’t already have it.

Built on the company’s new Modular Design framework that is touted to offer more flexibility and customization, the web browser also comes with a built-in VPN, a battery saver mode, and more.

The company started testing this new Opera One web browser last month but now it is available for everyone. It is now available to download for Windows, Linux, and macOS.

For example, if users are in the mood for funny videos, they can simply ask Tako to suggest some. In response, Tako provides a list of videos related to the requested topic, complete with details like the video’s name, author, subject, and links to similar content.

TikTok’s decision to develop Tako stems from its commitment to innovation and providing added value to its community. By experimenting with new technologies like AI chatbots, TikTok aims to create a safe and entertaining environment that inspires creativity and cultural engagement.

However, it’s worth noting that Tako is still in the experimental phase. TikTok acknowledges this by displaying a pop-up message to users upon launching the chatbot, indicating that its responses may not always be accurate. This disclaimer is in line with other AI chatbots like OpenAI‘s ChatGPT and Google’s AI.

To ensure user safety and improve the chatbot’s performance, TikTok reviews all Tako conversations. This practice, however, raises privacy concerns as user interactions are logged and stored. Recently Alibaba the Chinese technology conglomerate launched its much-awaited ChatGPT rival ‘Tongyi Qianwen’ for enterprise testing. And on Tuesday, during Alibaba Group Holding’s Annual Cloud Summit in Beijing Chairman and CEO Daniel Zhang Yong announced plans to incorporate their ChatGPT-like service, ‘Tongyi Qianwen’, into the company’s products and services.

The tech giant announced that Tongyi Qianwen will possess the ability to support both Chinese and English languages and will be integrated into current products like DingTalk, Alibaba’s enterprise communication and collaboration platform, and the smart home device Tmall Genie. However, no timeline was disclosed for the actual launch and integration.

In his keynote speech, CEO Zhang announced that all products of Alibaba will be incorporated into their extensive language model and will undergo a thorough improvement. He further added that this move was planned to elevate the intelligence of all Alibaba services and bring forth possibilities that were previously inconceivable.

CEO Zhang further said that businesses in all industries have begun to adopt intelligent transformation in order to maintain a competitive edge, and the world is at a pivotal moment of technological advancement fueled by generative AI and cloud computing.

Following the announcement by CEO Zhang, the Hong Kong-listed shares of Alibaba recorded a 3.12% rise in trading. Conversely, the shares of Baidu dropped by over 4%, due to the company’s recent setbacks in the artificial intelligence market.

Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen is a highly advanced AI model designed to understand and respond to human commands. It serves as an efficient assistant and can even generate ideas. It is being developed by Alibaba’s advanced research institute, the DAMO Academy. 

Baidu, Tencent, and JD.com are among several other Chinese tech companies that have introduced or declared their intentions to introduce their own chatbots utilizing AI technology which is similar to Open AI’s ChatGPT.

Pichai explained that PaLM is a more current language model that is larger in scale and better suited to handle tasks such as logical reasoning and coding issues. Bard is currently operating on a lightweight and efficient version of LaMDA. The upgrade to PaLM will bring more capabilities, such as better math problem-solving and reasoning skills.

Pichai acknowledged that the company’s conservative approach to AI development had contributed to Bard’s limitations. Microsoft is reportedly cracking down on Bing-powered search engines that are using its search data to power their AI chatbots. According to a report from Bloomberg, the tech giant has informed two unnamed search engines that if they continue to use Bing’s search data with their AI tools, Microsoft will restrict their access to the data altogether. With the introduction of GPT-4, Bing is expected to become more advanced and offer new possibilities for users. Multimodal models will enable users to interact through multiple modes, including text, images, and sounds. The new version has ability to generate videos is one of its key features.
