Apple’s latest release, the iPhone Air, has officially brought eSIM technology to China for the first time. Approved by regulators as part of a “commercial trial” involving China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, the device marks an important turning point in China’s telecom development.

The iPhone Air sold out within minutes of its release on Friday. According to Apple’s official website, retail stores are currently out of stock, and home delivery orders are delayed by about a week. Priced from RMB 7999, customers can buy it in three interest-free installments of RMB 2666 per month, with a limit of two units per person.

Domestic Brands Respond Quickly

Following Apple’s success, Chinese smartphone makers are moving fast. Oppo has introduced its Find X9 Pro with eSIM support, while Huawei is expected to launch its own version soon. This shows that Apple’s move is likely to accelerate eSIM adoption across China’s smartphone market.

What is eSIM and Why It Matters

An eSIM is a digital SIM card built directly into the device. It allows users to store multiple mobile profiles, switch carriers easily, and eliminates the need for a physical SIM slot. After a temporary suspension in 2023 for “system upgrades,” all three carriers resumed eSIM activations alongside the iPhone Air’s release.

Currently, eSIM use in China is still at a trial stage. Users must visit physical stores for activation and provide a government ID for real-name verification. Online self-activation is not yet available. Each iPhone Air supports two eSIM profiles, but foreign eSIMs cannot be activated in mainland China, limiting cross-border usage.

Balancing Innovation and Security

Experts note that while eSIMs make connectivity simpler, they also raise cybersecurity concerns. Authorities worry that digital SIMs could be used for unverified virtual numbers or illegal activities. The U.S. Commerce Department has launched an investigation into three major Chinese telecommunications companies China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom due to concerns over potential exploitation of American data. This probe is focused on whether these companies might be providing data to Beijing through their cloud and internet services.

The current status of the investigation reveals that risk-based analyses for China Mobile and China Telecom have been completed. However, the investigation into China Unicom is less advanced. These investigations have not been publicly disclosed, and subpoenas have been issued to the companies involved.

Despite being barred from providing telephone and retail internet services, these companies maintain a presence in the U.S. through small-scale operations such as offering cloud services and routing wholesale internet traffic.

So far, there has been no response from the Chinese companies or their U.S.-based lawyers. The Justice Department and the White House declined to comment on the matter, while the Chinese Embassy has urged the U.S. to stop suppressing Chinese companies. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has expressed serious concerns regarding national security and law enforcement risks.

Historical Context

This investigation is part of a broader pattern of regulatory actions against Chinese telecom firms. In 2019, the FCC denied China Mobile’s application for telephone services. This was followed by the revocation of China Telecom and China Unicom’s licenses in 2021 and 2022, respectively. China Mobile has taken a significant leap forward in optical network technology with the successful launch of the first 800G hollow-core fiber transmission test network. Conducted in Shenzhen-Dongguan, Guangdong, this groundbreaking experiment showcases the potential of this next-generation technology.

The test achieved impressive results on a 20-kilometer link

The test, completed in collaboration with domestic optical fiber, cable, and equipment manufacturers, focused on verifying the performance of anti-resonant hollow-core fiber under real-world conditions. This included simulating various challenges like pulling, squeezing, water vapor exposure, and outdoor welding.

The test achieved impressive results on a 20-kilometer link. Key technical indicators, including hollow-to-hollow core fiber welding loss (0.05 dB), hollow-to-solid core connection loss (less than 0.3 dB), and optical cable loss after laying (0.6 dB/km), all reached “world-class levels.”

Hollow-core fiber (HCF) utilizes a novel air light-guiding mechanism, guiding light through air instead of traditional glass. This technology has the potential to overcome the limitations of solid-core fiber, offering significant advantages in backbone and data center transmission.

China Mobile’s experiment extended beyond basic performance verification. By employing a single-wavelength 800Gbps wide-spectrum optical transmission system, they successfully conducted a 20km single-core fiber bidirectional 128Tb/s ultra-large capacity transmission test. This achievement demonstrates the feasibility of deploying anti-resonant hollow-core fiber in complex network environments.

Another key aspect of the test involved constructing the first hybrid optical cable using both anti-resonant hollow-core and solid-core fibers. This cable successfully met basic mechanical property standards for stretching, flattening, bending, impact, and torsion.

The experiment faced an unexpected challenge – Typhoon Malis struck Shenzhen and Dongguan during the laying phase. Despite these harsh weather conditions, China Mobile, alongside domestic industry partners, conducted the first-ever test of anti-resonant hollow-core fiber cable technology in a complex pipeline network environment. This resulted in the completion of a hollow-core optical cable for a typical financial dedicated line route within the Greater Bay Area, offering a potential 30% reduction in optical link transmission delay.

While the test results are promising, China Mobile acknowledges the need for further advancements. Their focus will be on reducing hollow-core fiber loss and optimizing fiber structure design to enable large-scale production. Additionally, they plan to implement a collaborative R&D model for ultra-800G transmission systems and fiber design, accelerating the development of anti-resonant hollow-core fibers and their corresponding optical communication systems.

As scheduled, China Mobile launched the Nzone 50 Pro in China today. The latest smartphone from the country’s largest carrier is nothing but a tweaked Huawei Enjoy 50 Pro. 

For the uninitiated, Huawei has been developing phones for multiple telecom companies in its home country for years. But these devices no longer bear Huawei branding. Also, they offer 5G connectivity, unlike Huawei’s self-branded products.

The Nzone 50 Pro is almost the same as the Huawei Enjoy 50 Pro. Primarily, the two handsets only differ in terms of chipset and connectivity.

The original model houses an 8MP selfie camera and Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset with 4G-only support. On the other hand, the new Nzone-branded variant is powered by a MediaTek Dimnensity 700 SoC and arrives with 5G support, NFC, and a 16MP front-facing camera.

Apart from the aforementioned dissimilarities and customized software, the two smartphones are one and the same.

Therefore, the Nzone 50 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ (2388 x 1080 pixels) 90Hz centered punch-hole display (LCD), 50MP (wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) triple camera system, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, 5,000mAh battery, 40W wired fast charging support, 8.4mm thickness, and 195g weight.

The Nzone 50 Pro is priced at ¥1,799 ($260) and ¥1,999 ($289) for 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB memory configurations, respectively. It is already up for pre-order and will be available for purchase starting at 10:08 AM on September 2.

Earlier today (26th August 2022), China Mobile’s NZONE announced the launch date for its upcoming smartphone, the NZONE 50 Pro. The smartphone will be announced next week. So let’s have a look at its features.

From what we know so far, the new smartphone will be equipped with a 5G enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. On the front, it will sport a 6.7 inch LCD panel that has a Full HD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 270Hz touch sampling rate, and a punch hole cutout for the front facing camera. It will be powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports 40W fast charging that can charge the device up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

On the rear, the NZONE 50 Pro model will feature a triple camera setup that includes a 50 megapixel primary sensor, a 2 megapixel depth of field lens, and another 2 megapixel macro shooter. Meanwhile, the front will house an 8 megapixel selfie camera. Other features include Bluetooth 5.0, USB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone hack, NFC support, side mounted fingerprint scanner, and Android operating system. China’s largest carrier China Mobile is known for selling smartphones under a brand called Nzone. These devices are developed by Huawei. Hence, some of these handsets are rebadged or tweaked versions of existing Huawei phones.

The telecom giant is now expected to release a new smartphone as a mysterious model has appeared on TENAA. The listing of the device discloses most of its features.

First and foremost, the upcoming Nzone-branded handset will bear model number SP210. It will be powered by a chipset featuring a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU. The SoC will be paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.

The phone will house a 50MP triple camera setup on the rear and a 16MP front-facing camera. It is listed to arrive with support for 10x optical zoom. However, we believe that it could be a  typo as Nzone smartphones are usually either budget or mid-range models.

Further, the device will sport a 6.7-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2388 x 1080 pixels (FHD+) and 16.7 million colors. Unsurprisingly, it will have support for 5G connectivity and will be backed by a 4,900mAh battery.

The handset will measure 163.29 x 74.7 x 8.372mm in dimensions and weigh 195g. It will be available in four colors, such as black, white, green, and blue.

China Mobile is yet to tease the arrival of the aforementioned smartphone. Hence, it is not known when the phone will be officially presented.

Vivo is all set to launch its highly anticipated Vivo X Fold and Vivo X Note smartphones in a couple of hours in its home market China. Ahead of the official launch, China Mobile has revealed the number of units it has procured.

China Mobile has announced that the company has procured 68,400 units of the Vivo X Fold and Vivo X Note smartphones, giving us a hint about what the company anticipates the demand would be for these devices.

It has purchased 15,600 units of all three variants of the Vivo X Note smartphone. The three models include 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage, 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM with 512GB internal storage.

On the other hand, the company has procured 8,000 units of each variant of the Vivo X Fold smartphone. The phone will come in two memory options to choose from — 12GB RAM with 256GB internal storage and 12GB RAM with 512GB internal storage.

As for the specifications, the Vivo X Fold will have a 6.53-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ screen resolution on the outside and an 8-inch 2K E5 LTPO UTG display on the inside. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

In the camera department, there’s a 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 primary camera sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, a 12-megapixel portrait lens, and a 5-megapixel periscope lens. The phone runs the Android 12 operating system with a custom UI on top and is powered by a 4,600mAh battery with 66W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

On the other hand, the Vivo X Note will come with a 7-inch AMOLED display offering a Quad-HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. This one too will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

As for the camera setup, it includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 48MP secondary sensor, a 12MP tertiary sensor, and the last 8MP snapper. On the front, it will have a single camera placed in the top middle for taking selfies and video calls.

It will run the Android 12 operating system out-of-the-box and be powered by a 5,000mAh battery having 80W fast charging support and 50W wireless charging support.

In late November, a tipster hinted at the launch of a new NZONE-branded smartphone. A little over a month later, the company has now officially started teasing the release of this handset. So far, it has revealed the launch date, design, and charging speed.

China Mobile’s NZONE brand has scheduled to launch an NZONE S7 series phone with 5G connectivity on January 5. The device will be unveiled at 2:30 PM (local time) in China.

According to the teasers on Weibo, the smartphone will have a matrix camera array at the rear. The setup will include three sensors accompanied by an LED flash. The backside of the handset will also house a fingerprint sensor.

On the front, the phone will flaunt a display with a dewdrop notch. The bottom bezel will be slightly larger than the top one. Finally, the device will have support for 22.5W fast charging.

Going by the available information, the handset might not be a better version of NZONE S7 Pro, as tipped earlier. Instead, it could be a watered-down variant. Perhaps, it could go official as the vanilla NZONE S7.

Having said that, as we are still two days from the official announcement, we expect to learn even more about the smartphone.

Vivo held a joint press conference with China’s Big 3 Telcos (China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile) yesterday, to announce vivo’s collaboration with the Big 3 on their newest upcoming smartwatch, the vivo Watch 2.

At the event, vivo showed off the design of its vivo Watch 2 to the public at the in-person event. From the pictures gathered, we found that vivo is using a circular watch face, a round-shaped dial as well as swappable watch bands for the vivo Watch 2. The watch is also shown to come either in a metallic silver finish or in a matte black finish with two buttons on the side. 

Another announcement at the event today was the support of standalone eSIM SMS for the vivo Watch 2. This is the first for the company and with standalone eSIM support, the watch can now receive SMSes without needing to be connected via Bluetooth to a phone or even the internet via Wi-Fi. This feature is a joint collaboration between Vivo and the Big 3 Telcos in China.

No other features or specs were announced today at the event today, but a TENAA listing of the vivo Watch 2 from October gave some insight into what the specs of the vivo Watch 2 are.

The vivo Watch 2 is said to feature an OLED display, a heart-rate tracker, a built-in GPS, a step counter, and a 515mAh battery, which is an improvement over last year’s 478mAh battery on the 2020 vivo Watch.

At the end of June, China Mobile launched a budget 5G smartphone dubbed as NZONE S7 Pro 5G. For those unaware, this device is developed by Huawei for the Chinese carrier. According to a reliable tipster, the mobile network provider will be launching yet another model in the lineup next month.

As per 菊厂影业Fans, China’s largest carrier China Mobile will release a new NZONE S series smartphone in December. This handset is said to arrive with an improved set of specifications. Unfortunately, that’s all the tipster has to say.

We can expect this upcoming phone to be better than the NZONE S7 Pro from earlier this year. In case you do not know, S7 Pro sports an FHD+ 90Hz LCD panel with a punch-hole. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 720 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.

It has a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide unit, and a 2MP macro shooter. On the front, it houses a 16MP snapper for selfies and video calls.

Since its a budget model, it features a 3.5mm headphone jack, in addition to a USB Type-C port. The remaining features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 4,000mAh battery, and 40W fast charging.

The U.S government had long-mooted plans to delists Chinese companies from US stock exchanges. New York Stock Exchange says it no longer intends to delist three Chinese telecom companies that have been at the butt of stringent targeted policies by outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. The shocking reversal comes just a week after the delisting announcement by the NYSE, in what is seen as a sign of better things ahead for Chinese interests.

In a statement made public by the exchange, it said it had made the decision after extensive consultation with relevant regulatory bodies connected with its earlier decision.
The Chinese firms that were affected by the December 31, 2020 delisting decision were China Mobile Ltd, China Telecom Corp Ltd, and China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd. It followed Trump’s administration’s plans aimed at blocking investment in 35 Chinese companies accused of being controlled or wholly owned by the Chinese military.

As expected, the shares of the three companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange reacted positively with a surge after the announcement. China Unicom gained 6.7%, while China Mobile and China Telecom each gained 5%.

Weighing in on the clear flip-flop decision by the NYSE, Managing Director at Hong Kong-based GFM Asset Management, Tariq Dennison said that the decision reflects a little ray of hope for Chinese firms as a new administration comes on board. GFM manages China Mobile shares in both Hong Kong and New York, but has largely scaled-down activities in the New York exchange recently, as the companies seek a strategy of not being caught in the crossfire in the growing Sino-U.S. tensions.

It is not expected that there could be an automatic de-escalation of the tensions even with the Biden Administration. This may take some time. Dennison feels that Biden is coming at a time of increased tensions in Sino-U.S. relations, and may not want to be tagged weak for any quick concessions in the first 100 days of his administration.

In separate statements on the new development, both China Unicom and China Telecom said that they had taken note of the NYSE delisting decision and would release the relevant regulatory information, stressing that investors should pay attention to investment risks.
China Mobile was yet to make a definitive statement on the development, while the NYSE has not provided any clarification on the decision yet.

The Chinese government, through its foreign ministry, denounced the delisting plans last week, in what it saw as a regime of random, arbitrary, and uncertain rules that will certainly stifle investor confidence.

ZTE, a well-known Chinse telecom giant has not been making many phones as it used to once after the US ban. However, the company is still in the phone business and is set to launch the first 5G smartphone with support for all the four carriers in China including China Broadcasting Network (CBN).

The three major carriers of China – China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom launched 5G networks for the public on November 1, 2019. Whereas, China Broadcasting Network launched its 5G network two months later in January 2020. It is the county’s only carrier to offer low-band 5G operating in the 703-798MHz range. Additionally, it is also testing 4.9GHz high band 5G.

That being said, there’s still not a single smartphone in the market to support 5G networks of all the four carriers in China. But that’s going to change soon as ZTE has successfully tested 5G VoNR (Voice over New Radio) for voice and video calls on CBN’s low-band 5G network on the occasion of ‘World Telecommunication Day’ on May 17.

The smartphone in question is said to be ZTE Axon 11 SE, a new member in the Axon 11 series. It will be announced officially on June 1. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about this handset at this moment. Anyway, we expect the company to soon drop teasers for the phone revealing its features.

Huawei Telecommunications, the electronics giant, has partnered up with telecom operators from China, to brings the newer and faster bandwidth, 5G network, to Mount Everest.

The Chinese tech giant is working with China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom to roll out the advanced 5G infrastructure on the world’s tallest mountain above sea level. Bringing 5G networking on an elevation of 8,848 meters is an achievement of its own and is a hallmark advancement in networking fields. The news was announced by Huawei earlier this week and was later confirmed by a spokesperson as well.

For those unaware, Huawei is a pioneering figure in 5G infrastructure, tools, and even equipment. Thus, it collaboration with telecom experts from its home country ensures that the next generation of networking sees a broader reach. As it stands right now, 5G communications act as the “connective tissue” that links IoT (internet of things), autonomous cars, smart homes, and various other smart products.

Earlier this month, three 5G base stations, which connect smartphones to the broader telecommunications network, were set up in two camps sits. These were on different altitudes including 5,300 meters and 5,800 meters, while also providing an online download speed of about 1 gigabit per second. This is quite impressive considering that the area was previously considered as an extremely harsh environment.

Future plans will have two more base stations being setup later on by China Mobile before 25th April 2020. These will be set up in altitudes which are even higher, coming in at 6,500 meters. Notably, this particular base station would even alow 5G networking to reach the summit of Mount Everest, which is also the border between China and Nepal.

Hong Kong citizens and visitors finally have access to high-speed 5G networks in the city as the services go official today. It has become the first region outside mainland China to have this blessing. China Mobile, Hutchison, and HKT are the only telecom operators to offer 5G services in the region.

The 5G networks were commercially launched in China on 1st November 2019. The three primary telecom operators – China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom launched their 5G services on the same day. Similarly, China Mobile, Hutchison, and HKT have become the first three telcos to deploy 5G services in Hong Kong.

The first phase of China Mobile’s 5G coverage in Hong Kong includes almost the whole territory along with hotspots at public places like business centers and shopping malls. The telco has also enabled 5G roaming services in mainland China and Korea. Further, it expects to roll out roaming services in a number of Asian and European countries by the end of 2020.

Next year is supposed to be a big year for 5G smartphones. Qualcomm and MediaTek both have 5G chipsets planned for mid-range phones which means phone buyers should be able to pick up a 5G phone for under $400.

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has revealed that all the phones it will release next year priced above ¥2000 (~$285) will have 5G support. He also added that they plan to announce at least 10 5G smartphones next year. The information was revealed this morning at the on-going China Mobile Global Partners Conference.

While $285 does sound great for a 5G phone, we believe most of these phones will sell for at least ¥2399 (~$342). Also, 10 phones sound like a lot, but with a large product portfolio such as Xiaomi’s (including Redmi), that is just shy of half of its annual lineup.

Lei Jun also added that these affordable phones will launch in the first half of the year.

Xiaomi intends to aggressively market 5G next year as it believes it brings a number of benefits. It already launched a 5G+AIoT strategy so as to increase the development and adoption of the use of its AIoT sevices.

Mr. Lei Jun also implored China mobile to speed up the roll-out of its eSIM One Phone Number Dual Terminal service across China. This service allows you to use one phone number on two devices such as your phone and your wearable that supports eSIM. The service is currently only available in 7 cities in China – Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

The new Xiaomi Watch has an eSIM but because the eSIM One Phone Number Dual Terminal service is available in only a few cities, it may affect the sales of the watch and the development of smartwatches in general.

China’s commercial 5G rollout is still a few months away but the top three Chinese carriers are already accepting pre-subscriptions for 5G in the country. Unsurprisingly, this pre-subscription drive seems to be successful with over 9.3 million users signing up for 5G even before they are officially rolled out.

All three carriers in China are offering pretty good discounts for their pre-subscribers. China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom operators are giving out 5G subscriptions for up to 30 percent discount to early adopters. For example, China Mobile customers who have been with the carrier for more than 5 years get a solid 30 percent discount on 5G plans for the first six months. New customers get a 20 percent discount on the official price at launch. China Telecom and Unicom users are also getting a similar discount scheme.

China Mobile has reportedly secured around 5.6 million 5G pre-subscriptions already while the figure for China Telecom and China Unicom is said to be around 1.9 million and 1.8 million respectively. Only China Unicom has given out a figure, which starts at 190 yuan (~$27) but it could change since the carrier states that this is just the phase one of its promotional offerings.

Looks like China will be at the forefront of 5G adoption. So, it would be interesting to see how fast the new generation network grows once it is rolled out in the market.

At a pre-MWC Shanghai 2019 event today, China Mobile hosted top executives from the mobile industry for a 5G+ conference. In attendance were officials from brands such as Nubia, Samsung, HTC, Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi and of course Qualcomm. The event served as the official formation of the 5G Industry Alliance. It was also an opportunity for Nubia to announce its first 5G device – the Nubia X 5G Edition.

The Nubia X 5G Edition looks like the 4G version save for the 5G logo located at the top right corner above the display on the back. No specific details were mentioned about the phone but we are pretty sure it will feature a new processor and a new modem – most likely the Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon X50 Modem. However, we are not sure if Nubia will be changing other parts of the phone such as the battery capacity just the way Xiaomi did with the Mi MIX 3 5G Edition.

Another thing we are sure of is that the Nubia X 5G Edition will cost more than the standard version. It may also be available in only one variant, unlike the non-5G model which comes in multiple configurations.

The original Nubia X  has a 6.26-inch LCD FHD+ display on one side and a 5.1-inch OLED HD+ display on the back. It has a Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

As a result of its dual-display design, the Nubia X doesn’t have a notch or punch hole or even a pop-up selfie camera. The only cameras are the ones on the back which are a 16MP f/1.8 primary sensor and a 24MP f/1.7 sensor. Since there is a display on the back, that is the viewfinder if you want to take selfies while the larger display is the viewfinder when shooting normal photos or recording.

The Nubia X not only has dual displays, but it also has two fingerprint scanners which are mounted on each side of the device. The phone packs a 3800mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4. It charges via a USB Type-C port, has Bluetooth 5.0 but no audio jack.

China Mobile is China’s main telco service provider, but they also have a solid stable of smartphones under their lineup. Their devices tend to be more affordable but still of decent quality, which has led to them garnering some fans. Today’s news however is quite interesting, because China Mobile has plans for an ultra cheap 5G smartphone. Not only that, but their cheap 5G smartphone is allegedly coming later next month!

“The devices will cost CNY2,000 (USD289) but eventually fall to around CNY1,000 ($148)” claimed Jian Qin, vice president of the Beijing-based firm. While this may not seem to be all that cheap, keep in mind that the competition right now is ridiculously expensive. The average price for a 5G phone right now $1000, so this is some pretty cheap 5G.

Jian also had other things to say. “In order to facilitate mainstream use, China Mobile is exploring a multi-dimensional billing model that will grant users access to fifth-generation networks without having to change SIM cards or phone numbers,” he added. He also believes that the price for 5G will go down with mass adoption, but anyone could’ve really had told us that, it’s not a hard concept to grasp.

This is some extremely exciting news to hear for techies like us with not too much cash. While we love 5G development, it’s not a stretch to say that the current crop of 5G devices are way outside the realm of affordability we can accept. With this upcoming China Mobile device, we’ll finally begin to see 5G become a bit more mainstream. These are definitely some exciting times.

The Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem has been designed by Qualcomm to support 5G networks. Today, Qualcomm has confirmed that at least 18 different smartphone manufacturing companies will be launching Snapdragon X50 5G modem enabled smartphones. Moreover, the U.S.-based chip maker has confirmed that various telecom service providers from across the world will be starting the trail run of 5G networks soon.

The Snapdragon X50 5G NR (New Radio) mobile modem chipset can attain download speeds of several gigabits. In October 2017, Qualcomm had unveiled the new 5G modem and confirmed that it would be commercially available during the first half of 2019. Now that Qualcomm has released press releases for the carriers and smartphone manufacturers that will be supporting and releasing 5G smartphones featuring Snapdragon X50 modem, it seems that the company is well on track of fulfilling the promise of making 5G phones available in 2019.

The smartphone OEMs that are working with Qualcomm to launch phones with Snapdragon X50 5G modem next year are Asus, Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Connected Technologies Limited, HMD Global (Nokia), HTC, Inseego/Novatel Wireless, LG, NetComm Wireless, NETGEAR, OPPO, Sharp Corporation, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, vivo, Wingtech, WNC, Xiaomi and ZTE.

Two of the major smartphone manufacturing companies namely, Apple and Huawei are missing from the list. Samsung has signed a separate cross-license partnership with Qualcomm recently which may also include plans to launch 5G enabled Samsung phones soon. Lenovo too is absent from the list.

The list of select global mobile operators that will conducing live and OTA mobile 5G NR trials include AT&T, British Telecom, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, KT Corporation, LG Uplus, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, Singtel, SK Telecom, Sprint, Telstra, TIM, Verizon and Vodafone Group.

Which smartphone company will be releasing the first 5G smartphone next year? OPPO CEO Tony Chen had confirmed in the previous month that it will be among the first manufacturers to release a 5G smartphone. ZTE CEO Lixin Cheng has recently claimed that a 5G ZTE phone would be launching at the end of 2018 or early 2019. Two months ago, Huawei CEO Yu Richard said that a 5G Huawei smartphone would be releasing in the second half of 2019.

5G smartphones featuring Snapdragon X50 will allow users to connect to public Wi-Fi without login. Such phones will offer ultrafast downloads, high-speed internet browsing, topnotch quality video and voice calls, lag free streaming of 360-degreee video and instant cloud access. Qualcomm will be also bringing 5G connectivity on other devices like Always Connected PCs, VR and AR.

Once in a while, we see network carriers release their own-branded devices. T-Mobile’s Revvl Plus is an example. Chinese carrier, China Mobile appears to have a phone in the works too which has been seen on TENAA.

The device which is listed on the database as China Mobile M850 packs specs that put it in the mid-range category. Its 5.93” display has a 2160 x 1080 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

There is 3GB of RAM on board and 32GB of expandable storage. The China Mobile M850 is powered by an unnamed 1.8GHz octa-core processor. Our guess is this is either the Snapdragon 652 or 653 mobile platform.

Internet speed is about going ballistic as Qualcomm, ZTE and China Mobile have announced on Friday, the successful test run of what they claim is the world’s first end-to-end 5G New Radio system. The new Radio system allows data to run at multi-gigabit per second speeds (>1 Gbps) with a latency of under 4ms. Compared to the 20ms latency that is the standard for current LTE networks, the difference is just out of this world.

The new 5G technology is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards. The 3GPP group is comprised of telecommunications companies that set the standards for 3G, 4G networks and now 5G networks and equipment. As a result of the 5G technology being built on the 3GPP standards, we can expect the development of commercial products that meet the 3GPP specification anytime soon.

The test employed ZTE’s 5G New Radio pre-commercial base station, Qualcomm’s 5G sub 6GHz New Radio prototype, and the data was transmitted over the 3.5 GHz band utilizing 100 MHz of bandwidth. The trial was conducted at China Mobile’s 5G Joint Innovation Center. The three partners intend to showcase this achievement at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference on November 23.

Xiaomi has confirmed via the Xiaomi Notebook official Weibo page that a new Mi Notebook laptop would be joining its lineup on December 23. According to the Weibo post, the new Notebook is teased as coming with a high performance, is thin and light as well.

Earlier on, we had seen a leaked posted of the upcoming December 23 launch event and it is interesting to note that the poster released via the Xiaomi Notebook’s official Weibo post is consistent with the one leaked earlier. Aside a new, thin and light build being teased, Xiaomi has stylishly teased that the Mi Notebook will feature 4G LTE connectivity as that could be spotted at the bottom right side of the laptop’s screen.

Another interesting thing to note on the official poster is the China mobile logo that is included. The poster could be an indication that Xiaomi is partnering with China mobile and perhaps, the laptop will come with support for China Mobile SIM card without the need for an external modem. We are not so sure about that but suffice it to say that there is a partnership and it could see China Mobile getting the laptop for sale on their network for China Mobile customers to buy and pay in installment.

Huawei recently released its latest instalment in its “Y” entry-level cellphone series in the market, the Y518. Users can already pre-order this phone for only 459 RMB.

The Huawei Y518 sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA display screen which is not as good as the Honor series’. It uses the MT6582M quad-core chipset and has 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM. It does not have a front camera but has a 5mp rear camera. It is powered by a 1730 mAh battery and uses the Android 4.22 OS.

The China Mobile logo confirms that the Y518 is a China Mobile phone. It supports TD-SCDMA+GSM dual-SIM. Its design is just ordinary and its measurements are 132 x 67 x 10.9mm. Its available in black and white.

Today, China Mobile launched its second flagship 4G cellphone. It’s called the China Mobile M812, a follow-up of the M811. The M812 sports a completely metallic case and has a height of 8.5mm. It also sports a 5.5-inch 720p display screen, runs on the Qualcomm MSM8926 quad-core processor (1.2GHz), and has 2GB RAM and 8GB internal memory space (expandable).

The M812 also sports a 5mp/8mp dual-camera and has a built-in 3100mAh battery. It supports TD-LTE 4G networks.

As for the price, the M812 costs 1299 RMB and will go on sale starting on the morning of September 10.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, however, there will actually be three versions. Their model numbers are MT7-CL00 (China Telecom 4G version), MT7-TL00 (China Mobile 4G version), and MT7-TL10 (Should be the China Unicom 4G version).

When comparing the first two versions, it looks like some small changes were made for the MT7-TL10. It still sports a 6-inch 1080p display screen, runs on a1.8GHz octa-core processor, and sports a 13mp/5mp dual-camera. The only differences are that its RAM was increased to 3GB and its internal memory space was increased to 32GB (the first two have 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory space). This should be the Mate 7’s high-end version. Unfortunately, it does not have a 2K screen. Perhaps, they never planned to include one in the first place.

The first shipping of the China Mobile edition of the Hongmi Note 4G (100,000 phones), which was first launched on August 6 along with the China Unicom edition, will finally be shipped to stores on August 12 costing 999 RMB. The China Unicom edition will arrive on the 26^th.

The Hongmi Note 4G sports a 5.5-inch 720p IPS display screen, uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon MSM8928 processor (1.6 GHz), and has 2 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory space (supports Micro SD card up to 128 GB). It also sports a 5 mp/13 mp camera and runs on a 3100 mAh battery. Its operating system is the Android 4.2.2-based MIUI V5.

In addition, the Hongmi Note’s size has not changed but its 10g lighter. The China Mobile version supports TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, and GSM internet (single SIM). It also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 ac Wi-Fi.

As 4G has been taking the smart phone industry by storm, AUX will soon join the fray with their upcoming 4G phones. One of them is a mid-end phone that will use a 4G processor from MediaTek.

As of now, no model number has been released but it is supposed to sport a 5.5-inch HD display screen with 1280 x 720 resolution. Its memory specifications are so-so with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory storage. It is also said to sport a 8mp camera and be thinner than previous phones.

These phones will be AUX’s debut on the 4G stage. They will use the 1.3GHz MT6582 quad-core processor and will include a LTE modem. It will support China Mobile 4G internet and will be compatible with TD-SCDMA and GSM internet. It can only support a single SIM card.

A month after releasing their first 4G mobile phone, the M811, China Mobile introduced their first 4G tablet to the world at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai. Recently, China mobile began to release new information on the specs and features of their new tablet. It a prototype for a 7-inch pad has already been completed and a 10-inch Pad is in the works.

The measurements of China Mobile’s first 4G tablet are 190 x 112 x 8.95mm and it sports a 7-inch 1280 x 800 display screen. It uses the 1.2GHz MSM8926 quad-core processor and has 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory storage (It can be expanded up to 32 GB) and a 5mp/.3mp camera with LED flash. It is powered by a built-in 4100mAh battery and runs on the Android 4.4.2 system. It supports Blu Ray 4.0 and OTG. Based on the price of M811, we can expect the price of the 7-inch tablet to be pretty high.

Recently, the mini version of the LG G3was revealed along. This new version will be called the LG G3 Beat. It was previously said at Samsung’s user agent profile that the LG G3 mini sported a 4.5-inch display screen and would be sold by the American phone company, AT&T. But for the Chinese market, it will be sold by China Mobile and was also given the name “LG G3 Beat.” (Model no.: LG-D729) Unlike had been stated in previous reports, this version would have a 5-inch 720 x 1280 display screen. 

Other hardware information: The LG G3 Beat will use Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 and has 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory storage, and 8mp camera. It is also powered by a 2300 mah battery.

Will the LG G3 Beat come out exclusively in China Mobile’s official stores will it be sold throughout the world as the standard version? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Samsung China has been announced the availability of the new Galaxy Core Mini 4G, this phone is the new Android 4.4 KitKat smartphone that available for China Mobile user, and this phone is only has single-SIM card slot.

The phones comes with 4,3 inch LCD screen display with resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (217 ppi). the phone is small enough for most user, since manu smartphone manufacturer is trying to develop more larger screen, this phone is set to has  127.8 x 66.2 x 10.6 mm body dimension and has 136 grams of weight.

Today, China Mobile held a launch event in Beijing for their own 4G cellphone, the ME811. It will be sold for 999 RMB, has an 5-inch 720p screen, and runs on the Snapdragon 400 quad-core MSM8926 chipset. It also has 1GB RAM and 4GB memory space.

The ME811 operates under the Android 4.3 system and runs on a built-in 2500mAh battery. As China Mobile’s own phone, it supports GSM/TDSCDMA/TD-LTE internet (supports roaming), and allows NFC.

According to China Mobile representatives, the ME811 will start being sold in China Mobile stores all over China.

The TCL Momoda’s (low) China Mobile and Unicom editions will soon enter the market. The high version is also expected to follow suit soon. The China Mobile version (high) is designated the TCL S725T. If the Unicom version is similarly named the same way, it would be called the S725.

Not surprisingly, the TCL S725T will use the MT6592 octa-core processor with a 1.7GHz main frequency, 2GB RAM, and up to 16G of memory space. It will also have a 5Mp front camera and 13Mp rear camera.

The design of the TCL Momoda China Mobile edition (high) has not changed. It uses a 3300mA battery and has a 5.5 inch screen with a 720p resolution and a deeply customized operating system. It also supports the TD+GSM double-SIM card and dual-microphone noise cancellation technology. It also has many different kinds of sensory functions such as an electric compass and gyroscope, and must notably, it supports Hotknot technology. The touch screens of both versions can facilitate data transmission at 10Mb/s.

The TCL Momoda high version is expected to hit the market on May Day and should not be more than 1000 RMB (about $161)

China Mobile, one of the largest mobile operator in China, has just released its financial statements. Through those statements in mind that the company suffered a loss for the first of annual profit since 14 years ago.

One of the causes of the loss was due to investment in 4G infrastructure. This infrastructure is intended to support the development of mobile technology in the future. But unfortunately, the infrastructure is currently only used by approximately 1.34 million units of smartphones.

According to chairman of China Mobile, most of China Mobile 4G users is the iPhone. Further it is said that implementation has been running for 1-2 months so it is still difficult to predict the effect on China Mobile’s business in general. Currently own an iPhone 5S have a share of 12% while only 2% is iPhone 5C. If the calculated roughly that iPhone 5S are sold amounted to about 1.1 million units.

Analysts have been predicting that China Mobile will be able to sell 15-17 million iPhones in 2014, but if you see the level of adoption of the current iPhone then these targets are unlikely to be achieved. Besides of that, China Mobile is also targeting 100 million LTE mobile phones user with 50 million LTE users by the end of this year.
