Up until now, there is no commercially-available phone with an LCD display and an in-display fingerprint sensor even though companies like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/27/boe-to-begin-mass-production-of-lcd-panels-with-optical-fingerprint-recognition-this-year/">BOE</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/31/lcd-in-display-fingerprint-solution-2020/">Goodix Technology</a> have promised mass production of the technology will happen this year.</p>
<p>The latest news regarding the technology comes from China and it says TCL&#8217;s China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd (CSOT) has developed a new in-display fingerprint technology for LCD screens.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-329812 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/TCL-Huaxing-Single-Point-LCD-In-display-Fingerprint-Scanner.jpg?x10805" alt="TCL CSOT Full-Screen Single-Point LCD In-display Fingerprint Scanner" width="957" height="749" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/TCL-Huaxing-Single-Point-LCD-In-display-Fingerprint-Scanner.jpg 957w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/TCL-Huaxing-Single-Point-LCD-In-display-Fingerprint-Scanner-300x235.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/TCL-Huaxing-Single-Point-LCD-In-display-Fingerprint-Scanner-768x601.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/TCL-Huaxing-Single-Point-LCD-In-display-Fingerprint-Scanner-696x545.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/TCL-Huaxing-Single-Point-LCD-In-display-Fingerprint-Scanner-537x420.jpg 537w" sizes="(max-width: 957px) 100vw, 957px" /></p>
<p>Called Full-Screen Single-Point In-Display Fingerprint Technology, it allows for better functioning of the infrared scanner and for better and faster recognition of fingerprints. It is also said to have an ultra-high fingerprint recognition rate that can reach the level offered by OLED displays and even has the potential to surpass it.</p>
<p>Another feature of the new LCD in-display fingerprint scanner technology is that it covers a larger area (about 92%) compared to the previous generation. This means you can place your finger on practically any part of the screen and it will unlock. It is also said to have a brightness of more than 450 nits which allows it to capture more details.</p>
<p>Huaxing says they spent two years developing the technology and have applied for more than 30 patents for it. The in-display fingerprint technology is expected to enter mass production this year while an improved version that supports multiple fingerprints at the same time will be announced next year.</p>
<p>There is no mention of which manufacturers are on-board to use the technology for their phones but we hope to see the first set of phones with LCD displays and in-screen fingerprint sensors on the market this year.</p>

According to The Elec, the latter will be the first Samsung phone to feature OLED panel from a different supplier than Samsung Display.</span></p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung-Display"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung Display</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> is the market leader as the supplier of OLED panels to smartphone OEMs. Last year, the sister company of Samsung Electronics accounted for 80% of small and medium-sized OLED panels market.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">But the monopoly of Samsung Display may soon end as Chinese panel suppliers have begun to improve their quality over the past few years. In fact, Samsung Electronics itself had sent a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to BOE for Galaxy S21, however, those panels </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/10/samsung-galaxy-s21-will-use-proprietary-display-as-boe-oled-panels-failed-testing-report/"><span style="font-weight: 400">failed in tests</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Now, according to a new report, the forthcoming Galaxy M41 will use China’s </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/TCL"><span style="font-weight: 400">TCL </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) made OLED panel. The flexible screen will be of 6.67-inches with FHD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution and 19:5:9 aspect ratio.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The same panel is found in high-end smartphones like </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Xiaomi"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">Mi 10 series and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Motorola"><span style="font-weight: 400">Motorola </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">Edge series</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The report further states that Samsung Electronics is also testing </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/BOE"><span style="font-weight: 400">BOE </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">OLED panel for Galaxy M41. If CSOT manages to supply panels for Samsung, future Galaxy M and Galaxy A series might feature displays made by these two Chinese companies rather than Samsung Display.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Both CSOT and BOE have already supplied LCD panels for Samsung’s budget smartphones earlier.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">By using low-cost yet reliable </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OLED"><span style="font-weight: 400">OLED </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">panels from Chinese suppliers, Samsung Electronics can aggressively price their budget smartphones in countries like India.
