Let’s start with the conclusion, Although Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro is positioned similarly to previous phones in the same series, but in my opinion it has a full pack of upgrades. It’s no longer just a phone to attract female users, let’s see what it has to offer.

Unboxing

The Civi 4 Pro has this Leica logo on the packaging, SO it’s clear that this time the Civi 4 Pro supports Leica algorithms.

However, it’s worth noting that the selfie cameras don’t have the Leica supports. But I’m 100% sure that female users won’t complain about it, because they tend to opt for third-party camera apps when it comes to taking selfies.

In addition to the phone, the package comes with a clear case, charging cable, and a 67W charger.

Design

Back to the Phone. The version I got is named spring field green, which is a color that most people will like.

The back of this version is designed with PU and decorative panels, which make its pattern unique to all the other phones in the market. No doubt this will be the best-selling color variant.

The camera module is very small, and it is smoothed out around the camera.

The Civi 4 Pro has a 6.55-inch four-sided micro-zone screen, similar to that of the Xiaomi 14 Pro.

It has a tiny curvature around the screen and is no different from a straight screen, as far as the experience goes.

I chose the Vivo X100 Pro for a comparison, you can also see how narrow the bezel exactly is.

When I got my hands on this phone, my first impression was: it is really light! This version I have in my hand is just 179g.

Comparing it to the 236g iPhone 15 Pro Max, it feels like it’s only half the weight of an iPhone. In terms of thickness, compared to the latest iPhone, you can clearly see the difference.

So I must say this phone has the best feel in the hand among all the phones we have reviewed this year. It is thin and light enough while having a lot of curved design.

In terms of peripherals, it has dual speakers, IR remote control, NFC and more, but it’s worth noting that the phone comes with a Z-axis motor, so the vibrations won’t be as good as those flagships.

Screen

The screen of the Civi 4 Pro is not only designed in the same way as the Xiaomi 14 Pro – it is also made of the same C8 panel and has a resolution of 1.5K, the screen is undoubtedly the highlight of the phone.

Performance

The Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro uses the newest combination of ‘Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 + LPDDR5 + UFS4.0’, a standard flagship combination. Just for the record, Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro is the world’s first smartphone that comes with the 8s Gen3. While this chipset sounds very close to the 8 Gen 3 in terms of naming, it is almost the same as another mid-ranger, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen3 in core specs.

So if you’re only concerned about performance, you can basically take it as an overclocked version of the 7+Gen3. However, they are not exactly the same, the 7+Gen3 has downgraded the band, ISP, etc.

My biggest complaint about this chip is in the cache, the 8s Gen3 only has a mere 4MB of L3 cache, which will most likely affect the performance of this chip in some tasks.

I also ran some tests for it, the 8s Gen3 performs very close to the 8 Gen2, so overall this is still a decent chip.

Gaming tests, FIRST, Genshin Impact, we set it to the Highest Graphics Underwater, average frame rates were 42fps with low power consumption during gameplay.

It’s clear that the 8s Gen3 isn’t firing on all cylinders. Later in the game, the power consumption was even just under 4W. So being Thin and light, or having good performance, there is only one way to go, isn’t it?

In the less stressful game PUBG mobile, we set it to smooth graphics and extreme frame rate, the game ran at 60fps throughout and consumed just 2.94W.

So, the answer is clear, the 8s Gen 3 is a good chip with good performance and power control, but Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro opted for a conservative performance strategy, because it is positioned as a thin, light, and photography phone.

Camera

The cameras on the Civi 4 Pro have been upgraded across the board, compared to the Civi 3 it not only has an extra telephoto camera, but the main camera and ultrawide have also been enhanced, as well as support from Leica algorithms.

First, I tried the selfie camera, the Civi 4 Pro has an 18mm and a 26mm selfie camera.

not only can you take close-up photos of your face, but also portraits with some background.

Compared to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, the Civi 4 Pro’s selfie camera has more beauty options such as “Makeup” and “Teeth”.

But just like most phones, it can not get the edges of the hair quite right.

In terms of the main camera and ultrawide, we compared it with the Xiaomi 13, and in this photo, you can clearly see that the white balance of the Civi is more accurate than the Xiaomi 13, and in the shadows, the Civi has less noise.

In this night shot, the Civi also has sharper details, this billboard shot shows off the HDR capabilities, you can clearly see the text on the billboard.

As for the ultrawide camera, both phones are close in both the center and edges of the photo.

The phone’s 2x telephoto camera is equivalent to about 50mm, which is perfect for portraits. I took some photos with the Lecia portrait and Master portrait separately, you can pause and take a closer look. I really like the skin texture in the photos, to be honest.

Battery & Charging

The Civi 4 Pro has a 4700mAh battery that supports up to 67W Mi-Tubro charge. Compared to the 4500mAh battery of the Civi 3, the Civi 4 Pro has some minor upgrades.

in terms of battery life, let’s compare it to the Xiaomi14 which has a similar battery size and you can visually see the difference.

There are no surprises when it comes to charging speed. It takes about 49 minutes to fully charge the battery.

Conclusion

So there is no doubt that this Civi 4 Pro or Xiaomi 14 Civi or Xiaomi 14 Civi, is the best Civi phone. But obviously, it’s not for everyone, if you have requirements for weight, looks, and photos, then the Civi is a good choice. But if you just want performance, maybe the cheaper Redmi K70 is a better choice.

The phone I got in my hand is the Xiaomi Civi 2. Civi series is a new series specially designed by Xiaomi for female users. Theoretically, the second generation should be better than the first, but it seems that this is not the case.

Design

Let’s start with the appearance, still light and thin body, although heavier than the previous generation, but you can hardly feel the difference between them. Of the four colors, I recommend this white the most, because the blue is too cheap, black is too ordinary, pink and last year’s one is similar, only the white is the most special.

Not only does it look wave-like, it is also bumpy to the touch. They say the inspiration comes from Hello Kitty, whatever, it’s quite comfortable to touch. The camera module design seems to have been seen somewhere, but it’s quite nice. Compared to the first gen, the biggest step back in the design of Civi 2 is the frame, from metal to plastic, which makes it look and feel cheaper than Civi 1.

Front Camera

Since it is a phone designed for females, it is certainly important to see how good it is at taking selfies. This time, Civi 2 not only keeps the 32MP autofocus front main camera of the first gen, but also has a 32MP ultra-wide angle front camera, this one without autofocus. They are also flanked by two Dual-tone LED flashes.

When you just need to take a selfie alone, then the front main camera performs just as well as its previous model, with autofocus allowing every detail of your face to show up perfectly in the photo. Civi 2 still retains two beauty effects, one that retains a certain amount of skin texture, and another that makes your skin extra smooth and white. The ultra-wide camera has not changed much except for the wide field of view, so we won’t repeat it again. The flash this time is a cold and warm flash, so you can choose to take a cold or warm selfie depending on your mood at that time.

The ultra-wide camera means you can shoot vlogs more easily with the front camera, and with this teleprompter feature, you can make great vlogs with the Civi 2 in most cases. this footage is what I recorded with the Civi 2, and I think it’s pretty good for recording life. But unfortunately, the front camera still does not support 4K resolution recording, nor does it support switching lenses during recording. The background bokeh algorithm is not particularly good, and the keying problem is particularly obvious. In the outdoors, when there is enough light always ensure that the face exposure is normal, which is great. But after all, the sensor size of the front camera is too small, once the light is not enough the image will be very noisy. So try to choose a bright place when recording video with the front camera.

Rear camera

The rear camera has been upgraded a lot, with the IMX 766 and the new 20MP ultra-wide camera already beating many phones in its price range. The main camera is our old friend, performing basically the same as the Xiaomi 12 and getting an excellent photos most of the time. With no OIS, your hand needs to be steady on the phone at night, or you’ll get a blurry photo.

The ultra-wide camera has not only gotten more pixels, but the new algorithm has made it very high contrast. I really like the sense of atmosphere, especially in the night scenes. It doesn’t look very bright like other phones. It makes night scenes look more like they were taken at night. There is no doubt that the Civi 2 is better than most other budget phones with ultra-wide cameras.

Benchmark & Gaming

So, if you are only concerned about the design and photo users, as you can see, it is worth buying. But if you also care about other parts, then it may have to let you down. Let’s talk about performance first. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which uses Samsung’s 4nm process, has weak performance.

As with the previous generation, don’t expect much from its gaming performance, running PUBG smoothly is its limit. Genshin Impact’s test we only ran on the grass in Mondstadt, and even with just medium graphics, the processor couldn’t hold out anymore. The temperature is not too high, and the frame rate is not too high. Simply put, for the same price you can buy a phone with much better performance than it, think about whether you can accept its gaming performance before you buy it.

Display

The screen is also an average one, with a 120Hz FHD+ screen, which is about the same level for everyone at this price point. The most noteworthy is the Android version of the “Dynamic Island”. Although it is the first dual-punch-hole screen since the launch of the iPhone 14 series, I don’t think the Civi 2 is a copy of the iPhone 14 Pro. Because it was a very long process from design to production, Xiaomi didn’t design any interaction design or animation for this area. The flash on both sides also didn’t allow it to put the punch-hole on the side, so it’s probably just a coincidence.

Battery & Charging

The battery is 4500mAh like Civi 1, and the battery life is as shown in the picture, which is average. Charging power is increased to 67w, 10 minutes to charge 32%, half an hour to charge 83%, and 42 minutes to fully charge, this speed is still very satisfactory. However, one thing that is less satisfying that the speakers have changed from stereo dual speakers to single speaker. This is a huge step backward I think. I have made a table where you can clearly see where the Civi 2 has improved and regressed. So whether it’s worth recommending this phone depends on whether you can accept its shortcomings. And after the sales successes of both the CIVI 1 and CIVI 1S in the country, Xiaomi is hyping up the Xiaomi CIVI 2 as a true disruptor in the industry with its official teasers. Xiaomi CIVI 2 Colours, Design and Build

As a fashion-first smartphone, the Xiaomi CIVI 2 will be featured in 4 premium colour options: Black, Pink, Blue and an exclusive Silk Silver colour option. The Silk Silver CIVI 2 features a unique matte-finished rear panel that features the company’s signature silk-like premium wavy pattern on the back that attracts the attention of on-lookers walking by.

However, instead of housing the Face ID module, Xiaomi has opted to feature a dual selfie camera setup with a 32MP main and a yet-to-be-announced ultra-wide sensor for group selfies. 

Lastly, the device is rumoured to be featured in a slim and lightweight body that only measures 7.23mm in thickness and weighs 171 grams. 

Xiaomi CIVI 2 Specs and Availability

For the specs, the Xiaomi CIVI 2 will be running on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 mobile SoC, and keeping the lights on is a generous 4500 mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging. 

The rear camera setup of the Xiaomi CIVI 2 could rival flagships as Xiaomi has officially teased that the Xiaomi CIVI 2 features Sony flagship 50 MP IMX766 sensor with OIS and an f/1.8 aperture, the same sensor found on competing Android flagships like the Xiaomi 12, Oppo Find X5 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro.

The Xiaomi CIVI 2 will be available with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and will run on MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box. 

Other features of the Xiaomi CIVI 2 include Dolby Atmos certified dual stereo speakers, an IR Blaster and dual SIM card slots on the device.

Although the Xiaomi CIVI 2 is launching on Tuesday in China, rumours point to the device being released globally as well under a different moniker, such as the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE or possibly the Xiaomi 13 Lite.

Last year September, we saw the launch of the CIVI series in China, Xiaomi’s latest sub-brand that caters to the youth and female market with its sophisticatedly designed premium smartphones that are attractive to the eyes and comfortable to hold in your palms.

And after the sales successes of both the CIVI 1 and CIVI 1S in the country, it is no doubt that Xiaomi is also planning to release the next-generation CIVI 2 this year to capture more market share as well. And today, great news has surfaced online reporting that Xiaomi may launch the Xiaomi CIVI 2 by the end of September this month with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.

This report comes from the technology news site xiaomiui.net, as the outlet discovered that the Xiaomi CIVI 2 is codenamed as “Ziyi” in the MIUI internal software development environment, and the device is ready to receive an Android 12 based MIUI 13 build update this month. 

This latest internal MIUI build is V13.0.1.0.SLLCNXM for the Xiaomi CIVI 2 as shown in the graphic above. The news of this latest discovery seems to indicate that Xiaomi is planning to launch the Xiaomi CIVI 2 by the end of September this month considering that the MIUI 13 build for the Xiaomi CIVI 2 is ready for a stable release once it is officially launched in the market.

As for other details of the Xiaomi CIVI 2, the outlet reports that the Xiaomi CIVI 2 will arrive with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, replacing the previous generation CIVI 1S’ Snapdragon 778G+ processor. The device could also sport a 6.55-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, a solid triple camera setup, and Xiaomi’s 67W fast wired charging technology.

Another highlighting feature of the upcoming Xiaomi CIVI 2 could also be the upcoming MIUI VLOG Modes. Recently, xiaomiui.net also discovered that Xiaomi had added VLOG Modes in MIUI, but the feature is not yet released to the public. The new modes allow for better color reproduction and more customization filters for videos shot on Xiaomi phones with enhancements done on the software side.

As for the global release of the Xiaomi CIVI 2, reports indicate that the device will not be released outside of China and the device could instead be rebranded as the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE or Xiaomi 13 Lite in global markets launching at a later date. However, the outlet has also gathered intel that the Xiaomi CIVI 2 alongside its alternative rebranded monikers will be not released in the Indian market at all.
