Nothing‘s sub-brand CMF has just rolled out meaningful firmware updates for three of its popular budget earbuds: the CMF Buds 2, Buds 2a, and Buds 2 Plus. If you’ve been waiting for refreshed performance or just hoping for fewer hiccups with your everyday wireless listening, you’ll want to pay attention to these updates.

What’s New For Each Model?

CMF Buds 2 (Version 1.0.1.32)

• Ultra Bass Revamped: The headline here is sound quality improvements in Ultra Bass mode, promising richer bass that’s punchy but not overwhelming.
• Bug Fixes: Various under-the-hood tweaks should mean a more reliable experience overall.

CMF Buds 2a (Version 1.0.1.46)

• Polish, Inside and Out: Buds 2a users are getting an update focused on bug fixes and general stability, aiming to keep your daily listening smooth and hassle-free.

CMF Buds 2 Plus (Version 1.0.1.40)

All updates are rolling out in a staggered fashion, so don’t worry if you don’t see them right away. To update your CMF earbuds, use the Nothing X app. Start by connecting the earbuds to your phone and ensuring the Nothing X app is up to date. Open the app and go to the settings menu, usually found in the top right corner. Look for the “Firmware Update” option and tap it. The app will check for any available updates. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to begin. Make sure the earbuds have at least 30% battery, are placed in the charging case, and the case remains open during the update.

CMF has officially launched its latest true wireless stereo (TWS) lineup in India: the Buds 2a, Buds 2, and Buds 2 Plus — expanding its CMF Buds 2 series as promised. Each model targets a different segment of the market with varying features.

CMF Buds 2a

The CMF Buds 2a is the entry-level offering. It features a lightweight design, 42dB Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a large 12.4mm bio-fibre driver, and enhanced bass performance. It houses 4 HD microphones with Clear Voice Technology and Wind Noise Reduction 2.0 for improved call clarity. Battery life stands at 35.5 hours without ANC and up to 23 hours with ANC active. The Buds 2a are IP54 rated for dust and water resistance and support Bluetooth 5.4 with dual device connectivity.

CMF Buds 2

The CMF Buds 2 positions itself as a mid-range model. It incorporates an 11mm dynamic driver with PMI and PU diaphragm material, Dirac Opteo tuning, Spatial Audio Effect, and Ultra Bass Technology. It offers up to 48dB hybrid ANC and features 6 HD microphones with Clear Voice Technology 3.0 and Wind Noise Reduction 3.0. Battery life peaks at 55 hours without ANC and 32 hours with ANC. It also supports adaptive ANC, transparency mode, and touch controls, alongside an IP55 rating for the earbuds.

CMF Buds 2 Pro

At the top end, the CMF Buds 2 Plus includes Hi-Res LDAC audio codec support, a 12mm dynamic driver with LCP and PU diaphragm, Personal Sound Profile, Ultra Bass Technology 2.0, and Spatial Audio Effect. It offers up to 50dB hybrid ANC and hearing compensation. The Buds 2 Plus features 6 HD microphones with Clear Voice Technology 3.0 and Wind Noise Reduction 3.0. Battery life reaches 61.5 hours without ANC and 33 hours with ANC. It also supports low-latency Game Mode (under 105 ms with Nothing Phones), in-ear detection, and fast charging.

All three models feature Bluetooth 5.4, dual connection support, Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair, and touch controls. Users can customize settings via the Nothing X app, including integration with ChatGPT for voice command features. However, unlike the Buds Pro series, these models do not include a Smart Dial control on the case.

Pricing, availability, and color options

Color options vary across models:

• Buds 2a: Dark Grey, Light Grey, and Orange
• Buds 2: Dark Grey, Light Green, and Orange
• Buds 2 Plus: Blue and Light Grey

The CMF Buds 2a is priced at Rs. 2,199, the Buds 2 at Rs. 2,699, and the Buds 2 Plus at Rs. 3,299. They are available for purchase through Flipkart and select retail partners across India.

Alongside these new earbuds, CMF has also launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro, positioned as an affordable mid-range smartphone with a modular, sealed back for better water resistance. It features a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor, 8GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, and a 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display. The phone will be available to buy starting May 5, 2025, with some interesting launch offers.

In a silent move, Nothing has announced a pair of budget truly wireless earbuds from its CMF sub-brand. The CMF Buds were teased alongside the CMF Phone 2 Pro in the recent past. But now, it has officially been announced in the global market. So here are its specs, features, pricing, and more.

CMF Buds 2: What specs does it offer?

Similar to its predecessor, the CMF Buds 2 features a customizable dial on its charging case for volume and playback controls. Users can customize this dial via the Nothing X app, which also offers tuning for the earbuds’ ANC (Active Noise Cancellation and other key features. The earbuds house a single PMI (Polymethacrylimide) driver and support SBC and AAC codecs via Bluetooth 5.4. The company offers Ultra Bass Technology 2.0 and Spatial Audio effects as well.

Thanks to its 6-mic setup, the CMF Buds 2 features up to 48 decibels of Hybrid ANC (supporting range of up to 5200Hz) and Clear Voice Technology 3.0 for better calling quality. On a single full charge, these can offer up to 55 hours of audio playback. It also supports quick charge which allows for 7.5 hours of playtime from just 10 minutes of charging. Other notable features include ChatGPT integration, touch controls, Dual Connection, a Low Lag Mode (under 110ms), and IP55 rated buds with an IPX2 rated charging case.

Pricing and Availability

Nothing announced the CMF Buds 2 in three color options, namely Orange, Dark Gray, and Light Green. It is available in the US for 59 US Dollars, while its UK and Europe pricing is set at 39 GBP and 49.95 Euros, respectively.

CMF by Nothing briefly surprised us on April 14, 2025, when the product page for the CMF Buds 2 wireless earbuds went live on its official website—revealing full details about the upcoming earbuds. The page was taken down shortly after, but not before confirming significant upgrades, including improved active noise cancellation (ANC), extended battery life, and advanced audio features. It’s expected to be priced under $60.

CMF Buds 2 official details

The Buds 2 retain a familiar design, mirroring their predecessors with a case in CMF’s signature Dark Gray and Orange, plus a fresh Light Green option. Despite smaller 11mm “PMI” drivers compared to the original, they benefit from Dirac Opteo tuning, promising “exceptional” sound quality.

The earbuds feature 48dB hybrid ANC, up from 42dB of the predecessor, meaning it will offer better noise cancellation. It will also feature Spatial Audio for an immersive experience. Battery life is a standout for the Buds 2, with up to 13.5 hours per charge and a case that extends total playback to 55 hours—9.5 hours more than the first generation.

Connectivity sees a boost with Bluetooth 5.4, which supports both Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for seamless pairing. The IP55 ingress protection rating ensures it can handle splashes of water and sweat, which is a welcome feature. The onboard ChatGPT integration, similar to what’s found on Nothing phones, also adds a smart touch. These enhancements make the Buds 2 a compelling upgrade for audio enthusiasts.

According to the now-removed listing, the Buds 2 were priced at £34 (down from £39), €39.95 (down from €49.95), and $59.99, with availability expected from April 16. CMF by Nothing has finally revealed the launch date for its upcoming smartphone along with a couple of its new truly wireless earbuds. The CMF Phone 2 Pro, CMF Buds 2 Plus, CMF Buds 2, and CMF Buds 2a are set to debut later this month, so here’s what we know so far.

CMF Phone 2 Pro, CMF Buds 2 Series Launch Date

In the latest teaser, the company confirmed that the upcoming mid range smartphone and TWS earbuds will be announced on 28th April 2025. This marks the second smartphone launch from CMF following the CMF Phone 1, which debuted back in 2023. Apart from revealing the launch date, the image poster also showcases the camera layout for the rear sensors. It appears that there are three shooters at the back along with an LED flash module.

In one of the previous teasers, CMF revealed that it is working on a new textured back with a tactile finish for the CMF Phone 2. The image shared a close up of the device with a sleek finish and a metallic screw in one corner. So the customizability is being retained over its predecessor. There has been a render mock up that does showcase the possible design but these are still unconfirmed at the moment. Based on what we know so far, the CMF Phone 2 could have a MediaTek Dimensity chip and may sport a smaller 6.3-inch display.

Alongside this smartphone, the company is set to announce the CMF Buds 2, CMF Buds 2 Plus, and CMF Buds 2a. These are the successors to the original CMF Buds and will likely arrive at multiple price points. Back in February 2025, the Buds Plus model surfaced on the FCC database, revealing its design, dimensions, battery capacity (53mAh earbuds, 460mAh charging case), and charging speeds (3W). Last week, CMF confirmed the launch of its Phone 1 smartphone with an Orange leather back panel and a smart dial. Leaks and rumors have revealed some key details of the device. Now, the Nothing sub-brand has shared a 15-second teaser video on its X handle. It is titled ‘Reinventing the Wheel’ and refers to the smart dial. The teaser is very cryptic and we are left guessing by CMF. 

CMF Watch and Buds also teased to launch alongside Phone 1

The teaser shows three dials rotating slowly. They don’t appear to belong to a single device. The first device is obviously the CMF Phone 1 as it is confirmed to get the dial at the bottom right side of the back panel. We can see that there is a visible screw under the dial that could serve as a lanyard. We can expect it to perform more functions. The teaser also confirms that the upcoming phone will be available in a Matte Black colour alongside Orange. 

The second product in the teaser pretty much seems to be CMF Buds 2. This is because the dial looks similar to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the third device could be the CMF Watch Pro 2. You can see the rotating dial popping up. This also suggests that it can be replaced to customize the look of the smartwatch. We can expect the Nothing sub-brand to reveal more details about its upcoming products in the coming days. Hopefully, not too confusing and cryptic.  

As per leaks, the CMF Phone 1 is expected to feature a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED display, a 50MP rear and a 16MP front camera. It will reportedly be powered by a Dimensity 7200 SoC. The upcoming smartphone is tipped to carry a box price of Rs 19,999.
