OPPO recently announced a few days back that it will be revealing some “good things to share with us” about ColorOS on November 22. ColorOS is OPPO’s proprietary custom interface on top of Android and this will be its fifth anniversary. Hence, the company has some new updates in store for us. A recent invite letter shared with the press revealed that the new ColorOS is very different from earlier versions. While much still remains a mystery about the new product, OPPO just released a poster on social media hinting at a new feature.

As per the new poster, smooth and stable gaming should not be a feature relegated to flagships. From what the statement hints, it seems OPPO might be bringing its GPU acceleration technology called Hyper Boost to low-end smartphones. Hyper Boost is OPPO’s equivalent of GPU Turbo which was released by Huawei. It not only improves gaming but also boosts system performance and applications with the help of the system engine and application engine.

Not only does it speed up app load times by 32 percent, but OPPO has also worked closely with 11 popular mobile game developers to optimize 100 games for its devices. The next step is to use AI to enhance the technology even further and partner with even more game developers.

As per the company’s announcement, 17 new models will already be getting the new software accelerator and we could see more added to that list when OPPO announces the new ColorOS. Apart from Hyper Boost, we just might see the company create a roadmap for devices likely to receive Android Pie. It’s about time OPPO started doing it.

Several months since the release of the OnePlus One, the company released a special edition with new speakers designed by American audio electronics giant, JBL. The OnePlus One JBL Special Edition has a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 screen, a thickness of 8.9mm, support for TD-LTE and FDD-LTE dual-4G networks, a 5mp/13mp dual-camera, and the Snapdragon MSM8974AC chipset with Adreno 330 GPU. Here’s our review.

The OnePlus One JBL Special Edition’s package

The Front and display screen

       Perhaps it is because Liu Zuohu used to work for OPPO, but the OnePlus One JBL Special Edition looks similar to the OPPO Find series. The top and bottom ends are curved, and it also has a round back. Although it is comfortable, it’s a bit hard to handle a 5.5-inchphone like this with one hand.The front side of the OnePlus One JBL special edition

The phone’s front-facing 5mp camera

      Notice how the phone’s screen looks like it is “floating” on the silver chassis. This design probably serves to protect the screen as, if it falls onto the ground, the corner will be the first to hit the ground. This may prevent the glass from shattering. The screen’s size and resolution have also been upgraded to 5.5 in and 1080p respectively.

       Above the screen is the 5mp front-facing camera. An LED flash is located on the right beside it. There are three Android virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen with a background light. Even though it’s not very bright, it should work alright when you use the phone at night.

The back 

It looks like OnePlus did a lot of work on the chassis as there are ports and buttons on all sides. The dual-speakers are located at the bottom. Try not to hold onto the phone too tight or you may end up covering them. This phone comes with a micro SIM tray. Regarding internet connectivity, this phone has support for TD-LTE, FDD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, and GSM. The FDD-LTE and WCDMA networks only work abroad.

       Unlike the original OnePlus One, this version has the JBL logo at the top in the back. Its rear-facing camera is still 13mp and has dual-LED.

Color OS 1.2 

The OnePlus One JBL Special Edition uses the Android 4.3-based Color OS 1.2 which is a very simple user interface. Even though there is a secondary menu, there are only two pages of icons to see which is not bad. They are all flat.

Desktop/Weather wallpaper

There are so many themes and wallpaper available.

       This year, several products have already used weather wallpaper. This time, OnePlus went a step further by making these animated images look lifelike, even to the point that you feel like it’s actually raining on your screen. There are a lot of lock screen wallpaper and in the theme store, most of which are free. There is also the hand gesture menu where you can designate certain finger movements to different functions. For example you can make it so when you circle your finger on the screen, you can open the camera app.

       Safety features like the anti-virus and battery consumption programs are very practical, and not a lot of third-party apps were pre-installed, making it less of a hassle for users to download them.

       Let’s now take a look at the OnePlus One JBL Special Edition’s camera. It does not have a lot of features but the features that it does have are very practical. These include panoramic, beauty enhancement, etc.

       Overall, the quality of the photos taken by this phone is great. For the most part, the night shots are clean with a little bit of noise.

JBL E1+ earphones 

       Since this is the JBL special edition, it is no surprise if it comes with a pair of JBL E1+ earphones which are pretty good.

Music and audio 

       Among other things, users can listen to any music online with their phone’s music player via WIFI connection. The interface resembles a vinyl record being played. It also comes with a mixer which is practical for adjusting the sound quality.

Besides an online music player, it also has a video streaming program.

       We tested out the video player using 15 1080p videos. Other than the fact that two videos do not have sound and one has a slight pause, overall, they mostly worked well.

Benchmark scores/Conclusion 

       Here, we talk about the phone’s processor, the Snapdragon 8974AC which has 2.5GHz, as well as the phone’s Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, and 16GB ROM. Here are the benchmark scores.

       Although there were no great improvements made on the OnePlus One JBL Special Edition’s hardware the Color OS 1.2 is very easy to use. Furthermore, the sound quality has improved with the inclusion of the JBL E1+ earphones. The OnePlus One JBL Special Edition goes on sale today.

IUNI U3 and One Plus one are both flagship devices with budget price. But for customers, there are so many choices for them to choose any smartphones at the price of 1999RMB($325), but which one would you buy? Now we have selected 2 typical smartphones: IUNI U3 and One Plus. Let’s take a look at what is the difference between them.

Specification
As new brands in China, IUNI and One Plus have already found their balance between price and specification.

Dispaly

As for display, the screens of both two models are very impressive, because the screens are extremely close in quality and brightness. IUNI U3 features a 2.D curved screen, while One Plus features a floating touch screen. The difference between them is the design. The former is comfortable to hold, while the latter looks more fashionable.  As everybody knows, there is no difference when you using 2K screen or 1080P screen. If I don’t mention the resolutions, you cannot even tell  what is the difference between them by eyes only.

But there are still some differences in the front: the 3 on-screen buttons. IUNI U3 has put the 3 on-screen buttons inside the interface and you can choose to hide them; While One Plus makes them outside the screen, those buttons show just like notification light. In addition, Both of their menu buttons and back buttons are in a opposite side.

Another difference is the speaker. One Plus has a stereo speaker which located in the bottom of the phone, IUNI U3 has a mono speaker which in the back of the phone.

Both of two models feature a 13MP camera, One Plus has a dual LED flash while IUNI U3 with a single LED flash.

The power button and volume button of IUNI U3 are on the left. One Plus has only power button on the left , its volume button and Micro-SIM slot are on the right. In order to put SIM into the slot, the back cover of IUNI U3 is detachable, but its battery is non-removable. For One plus, back cover is undetachable and battery is non-removable.

Performance

There is no doubt that IUNI U3 and One Plus own the best hardware currently. IUNI U3 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AA quad-core processor 2.3GHz , with 3GB RAM and 32 internal storage; while One Plus features a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AC quad-core processor 2.5GHz, with 3GB RAM and 32 internal storage. IUNI U3 features IUNI OS which based on Android 4.4.

One Plus features Color OS which also based on Android 4.4.

Camera

One Plus sports the latest Sony’s IMX214 sensor which performs well in the industry. IUNI U3 sports Sony’s  IMX135 sensor with Optical Image Stabilization, but its image quality is less better than One Plus.

Let’s look at the color performance and white balance of IUNI U3( left) and One Plus(Right). After we have seen some sample photos, UNI U3 does a better job of accurate colors, especially when dealing with red and green colors. While One Plus could capture a huge amount of details with a better IMX214 sensor.

Summary

We could find that IUNI U3 and One Plus are very competitive in the market at the price of 2000RMB($325) in China. Both of them will give customers more surprises as their unique design and excellent performance. But which one is better, which one you should buy,  you’d better hear your inner voice and make a choice.

Before China’s National Holiday break, OPPO launched the Color OS 2.0 standard edition in its forums.

Not only does the first version support the OPPO Find 7 (Standard and Lightweight versions); it also supports the OPPO Find 5 and the OPPO N1 (which has a revolving camera).

The Color OS 2.0 standard version uses a single-layer desktop and reusable icons. It has a neat and simple look and is easy to use. Besides the desktop, it has a lot of animated features. There is some news to rejoice for  OPPO fans,  today OPPO leaked the plans of KitKat update to its former Flagships Find 5 and N1 via a comment from official account on Google+. So the company has changed its idea as it had announced there will be no further update back in August. OPPO phones runs on custom Color OS.

It has been touted as the “world’s thinnest 4G smart phone.” (TD-LTE 4G-supported) Now, we review the OPPO R3. It was designed with alloy frames and a metal rear case. It also supports laser engraving for the owner to add a text or picture to maintain the phone’s uniqueness.

The Oppo R3 sports a 5-inch 720p display screen that was designed using in-cell technology. Its processor is the Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928) quad-core chipset with a frequency of 1.6GHz. It also has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory storage which can be expanded to 128GB. It has a 5mp/8mp camera and runs on a 2420mAh battery. Its OS is the Android 4.3-based Color OS 1.4.

       The OPPO R3 is only 6.3mm thick making it the thinnest 4G smart phone out right now.

This phone also uses a metal rear case with alloy frames adding more stability when playing videos. It won’t affected by fingerprints.

Its rear camera has 8mp which is pretty good.

OPPO does not often use pointed cameras. But this phone is so thin that you can see the camera and light pointed out. This definitely affects the phone’s evenness. However, the camera is kept intact by the metal frames and the camera’s diameter is small so there’s no need to worry about scratches on the lens.

The OPPO R1 promoted night photography and the R3 will continue to do so. It uses the IMX179 sensory chip. It has a Sony 8mp rear-camera sensor with an F/2.0 aperture. The sensor can cover an area of about 1/3.2 inch. In addition, the OPPO R3 has a “UHD Photo Quality” feature like the Find 7, which can pick the best photos out of 10 shots and put them together into a 24mp UHD photo.

As these samples show, the R3 has an outstanding photo resolution. The image and colors are all very bright and beautiful. Its exposure and permeability are incredible too.

Here’s a look at OPPO’s Color OS.

       The Color OS’ desktop has always been pretty grandiose. The Dock and notification bars are completely transparent. 

       4.86GB out of the OPPO R3’s 8GB internal memory space can be used for saving. Not a lot will be left after installing a couple of games, but since it can be expanded to 128GB, the user will not have to worry about this.

It scored more than 200000 points at the Antutu V4.5 benchmark test, so the performance is so-so.

This is the first instalment of the OPPO R series to support 4G internet. It is compatible with TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, and GSM and could become OPPO’s next big star.

If you’re looking for excellent video hardware and a good benchmark score, then forget about it. What’s notable about the OPPO R3, though, are the fact that it’s the thinnest 4G phone around, and has excellent camera specs and outstanding OS.
