Contra, a classic side scrolling run and gun shooter game, is making its way to smartphones soon. Konami has recently announced that it will be launching the game on iOS and Android in July 2021, even sharing a short trailer of the game on YouTube.

Notably, Konami has partnered up with Tencent to bring the game to the mobile platform. While versions of the game were seen before on Android, this is the first official release of one of the most iconic video games from Konami. For those unaware, Contra is a side scrolling game that was designed around arcades to offer a run and gun style of gameplay. Some versions of the game have even been available on PC, PlayStations, and Xbox consoles as well.

The new game has been titled “Contra Returns” and Konami has promised to offer an “authentic new take” on the series along with ” new graphics, gameplay upgrades, and more.” From what we know so far, the game will have customizable weapons and would even feature new characters and a storyline. The players will have to unlock new skills through playing the game to navigate through multiple stages.

In other words, Konami is bringing a modern touch to the game while also promising the same thrill as the original arcade versions. Contra returns will feature over 200 levels, new game modes, including a 1v1 and even 3v3 player vs player modes. At the moment, the game is available for pre-registrations on Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. You can also check out the trailer in the video link above.
