The Coolpad Cool 5 has launched in India. It is a budget smartphone that takes on the Vivo U10, Redmi 8A and the Realme 5 in the subcontinent. The device is the successor to the Coolpad Cool 3 that was introduced in the country earlier this year. The highlights of the Cool 5 include an octa-core chipset, waterdrop notch, dual rear cameras, a beefy battery and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Coolpad Cool 5 Specifications and Features

The Cool 5 comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a 2.5D curved glass. The smartphone is powered by a 2.0 GHz MediaTek Helio P22 SoC with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. The smartphone offers expandable storage up to 128GB with a microSD card.

The primary camera uses a 13-megapixel sensor with a 2-megapixel depth sensor with an LED flash module. The front camera is a 16-megapixel unit that is housed within the notch. The Coolpad Cool 5 draws power from a 4,000 mAh battery that is rated to last up to 18 hours on a single charge and runs on Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, USB microUSB and 3.5mm AUX port.

Coolpad Cool 5 Price and Availability

The Cool 5 is currently on sale on Amazon India, starting from Rs. 7,999 (~$113). Launch offers include exchange bonus up to Rs. 7,500 (~$105), no-cost EMI and 10 percent instant discount on SBI Debit and Credit cards. The smartphone is available in two color gradients, namely Midnight Blue and Gradient Blue.

Pankaj Upadhyay, the Online Business Head of Coolpad India issued a statement at the launch event saying, “We are very optimistic about sales picking up during this festive season. Our marketing investment is roughly 7% of the total revenue gathered during online and offline sales between July and September this year. We expect a major growth in sales, and have set a target of 100,000 units, which is 10x the target for 2018”.

Coolpad, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, which launched three Mega-series smartphones in the Indian market last month, has now launched its latest entry-level smartphone in India — Coolpad Cool 3.

The smartphone is priced at Rs. 5,999, which roughly converts to $84 and will be available for purchase through online and offline markets. However, the company has not yet revealed the exact date of availability. The device will be offered in four color options — Midnight Blue, Ruby Black, Ocean Indigo and Teal Green.

Coming to the specifications, the handset features a 5.71-inch LCD display with 1520 x 720 pixels screen resolution that comes with a dewdrop notch. This makes it the most affordable smartphone in the Indian market to feature a dewdrop display.

Under the hood, the device is powered by an entry-level octa-core processor from Unisoc, which was previously known as Spreadtrum. It packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and comes with a microSD card for expanding the phone’s storage capacity.

As for the camera configurations, it comes with an 8-megapixel primary sensor and a 0.3-megapixel secondary depth sensor. At the front, the handset gets a basic 5-megapixel fixed focus camera for selfies and video calling.

The handset comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added security. It runs a slightly customized version of Android 9.0 Pie operating system, which is currently the latest stable version of Android. Connectivity options on the handset include support for Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS + GLONASS, and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Coolpad, the China-based smartphone manufacturer, which had launched three new smartphones in the Indian market a couple of years ago, is now all set to launch its new smartphone tomorrow in India, dubbed Coolpad Cool 3.

The smartphone will feature a dewdrop notch and come with a glossy back panel. It will be available for purchase in a slew of color options. Launching tomorrow, i.e. 5th February, the smartphone is expected to be priced under Rs. 6,000, which roughly converts to $84.

Currently, the phone is confirmed to run Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box. The media invite for the launch event of the smartphone also reveals that the phone will come with a dewdrop/waterdrop notch on top of the display.

The teaser of the device hints the phone could feature a sleek design with minimum bezels. There’s a possibility that the smartphone could come with a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with  Full HD+ screen resolution and 2.5D curved tempered glass protection.

On the back side, the phone is expected to feature a vertical dual camera setup along with an LED flash stacked between the two sensors. The phone’s front-facing camera will also be supporting the Face Unlock feature.

While it’s not yet confirmed if the phone will be powered by the MediaTek or Qualcomm chipset, we expect the smartphone to come with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. The phone will also support microSD card slot for expanding the phone’s storage capacity. As for the connectivity, it supports dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, and a micro-USB port.

At the price point of around Rs. 6,000, the smartphone will be competing against the likes of Redmi 6 and Realme C1. It will be interesting to see how the device performs against the established brands like Xiaomi and Realme.
