Through its official Twitter handle, the Chinese tech giant shared an image poster revealing this concept device. Looking at this device, it can be observed that all four edges of the device are curve around the side of the device at an angle of 88 degrees. While curved edges aren’t something new in the industry, having all four edges being curved has never been seen before. In other words, the company’s first Quad Curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone is truly a unique handset that also signifies its emphasis on ‘innovation’. From the front, the device would seem to be mostly covered by the display, except the corners.

Furthermore, the smartphone manufacturer stated that it achieved the quad curve 88 degree surface through “countless breakthroughs in glass bending and laminating technology to extend the limits of the display to infinity.” Xiaomi also added that the device features a port free unibody design and has been built using a total of 46 different “groundbreaking” patents. Notably, the 88 degree curved edges have been prior to this in devices like the Mate 30 Pro.

https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/hBZt9V12lx07K839w0bS01041200eeeq0E010.mp4

Similarly, other OEMs have also showcased their curved edge smartphones in the past as well. However, these devices generally only feature just two curved edges that were on either side of the device and didn’t include the top notch and the bottom chin region of a handset. While the Xiaomi concept certainly looks futuristic and eye catching at the moment, it is unclear if the company actually aims on commercially launching such a product. Another major concern regarding the device would also be its durability, as having more edges as glass/display makes it more prone to cracks even from simple falls.

This year, more manufacturers including Xiaomi will join the curved edge display train. The Mi 10 series will have a curved edge screen unlike their predecessor, the Mi 9 which has a flat edge display. The upcoming OnePlus 8 series will also have a curved edge display, a continuation of the trend OnePlus joined last year with the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro.

A curved edge display greatly enhances the aesthetics of a smartphone. Some manufacturers have even included custom gestures and features that work with curved edge screens. However, not everyone likes curved edge screens. First, they are more prone to breaking when they drop. They also cost more to repair. Another disadvantage is that a lot of manufacturers do not add any special features to their phones that take advantage of the curved edges. Despite all of the above-mentioned flaws, curved displays are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.

For today’s poll, we want to know which type of display you prefer. So do take the poll and also post a comment telling us why you prefer one over the other.

The phone comes with a beautiful design, packing a curved edge or hyperboloid display and some powerful hardware. We must state, though, that there is no visible evidence like a logo to prove that this is a LeEco smartphone but the design has the features of a LeEco smartphone.

A look at the leaked images shows a smartphone with a curved display with a relatively slim body. There is also an absence of the volume rocker at the side and also the 3.5mm audio jack seems to be missing. This is likely replaced with a USB Type-C port. In addition, in a bid to optimize its upstream mobile sales, LeEco is said to continue to launch smartphones with flagship configuration. To this end, the LeEco smartphone is said to sport Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chip backed by 6GB of RAM. The camera is said to also be a top notch dual lens setup made up of a black and white as well as color shooter.

There is no news as to when the new LeEco flagship would be released but in a couple of months from now, something should come up. We sure don’t expect to see the device earlier than Samsung Galaxy S8 or even the Mi 6.

The Huawei P10 had been making the rounds of late with leaked details coming out left, right and centre. The P10 was recently leaked as coming with more paint jobs and also with a highly sophisticated audio system developed in partnership with Yamaha and Harman Kardon.

Perhaps buoyed by the successful outing so far of the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro, the latest leak suggests that Huawei is planning to launch the P10 in two variants. One of the P10 variants comes with a straight display, while the other variant would have a curved edge screen.

Both versions feature dual Leica cameras at the rear but the difference lies in the P10 having a straight screen and the P10 Plus having a curved display. In addition, the Huawei P10 Plus also sports a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor while the P10 packs only a front fingerprint sensor. It is not known if the P10 Plus also has a front fingerprint sensor as it still has a home button at the front. The rear camera on the P10 Plus also has a uniquely designed round flash. The P10 comes with full network support and has a model number VTR-AL00 while the P10 Plus also with full network support comes with model number VIC-ALoo.

Read More: Huawei P10 Could End Up Being Much More Costlier Than The P9 (Rumor)

The apertures up front on the P10 Plus is quite different from the P10, opening up the possibility of the device having an iris scanner, in addition to the front camera and PDAF. The Huawei P10 is expected to be launched at MWC 2017 where all the facts and features of the flagship would be made bare.

Since the Xiaomi Mi Mix concept phone pioneered the launch of phones with bezel-less display and high screen to body ratio exceeding 90%, there have been several other bezel-less phones shown to be in development like the Meizu concept phone, Huawei’s own concept device etc. But this Sony Xperia Edge concept phone design isn’t actually from Sony but is designed by designer Metti Farhang who shared it recently.

The design is said to be for a Sony device named Xperia Edge apparently because of its double curved-edge design. The concept device also comes with what is termed a triple bezel-less display with the screen edges at the top and sides having less design bezels but curving all the way to the rear. The device doesn’t seem to be curved at the bottom edge where there is a slight screen space that isn’t covered by the display. The device is designed with onscreen capacitive virtual buttons though, in typical Sony fashion.

No doubt this draws comparison with the Xiaomi mi Mix already on sale and the Sharp Aquos Crystal that Japanese smartphone maker is said to be developing. The design seems to be smaller than the 6.4 inches the Mi Mix came and there is a dual camera setup at the rear which sits to one end of the phone’s rear.

Read More: Image of Meizu Bezel-Less Phone Leaks: Body-to-Screen Ratio Higher Than Mi MIX

We wouldn’t forget so soon that Huawei has a concept device up its sleeves dubbed Huawei Honor Magic that would utilise similar near bezel-less display, and a high screen-to-body ratio. Huawei’s own device is set for launch on December 16. The possibility that this Sony Xperia Edge concept phone design will fnd its way out is near zero since its not from the company.

Latest report emerging from South Korea hints at the Samsung Galaxy S8 coming with some bit of innovations and one of the innovation is that both variants of the Galaxy S8 would sport curved edge displays which curve on the sides to meet the phone’s enclosure in an effect that makes the device look bezel-less. That means there is no flat screen model, according to the report.

Another difference that would be on the Galaxy S8 as highlighted in the report is that the two models would use the model numbers SM-G950 and SM-G955, meaning Samsung is skipping the number 4 as the Galaxy S7 shipped with the serials SM-G93x. This may not be unconnected with Korean superstition surrounding the number 4.

The version with model number G950 is said to feature a 5.7-inch display, slightly bigger than the S7 edge which came in at 5.5 inches, Galaxy S6 at 5.1 inches but at par with the Galaxy S6 Edge+ released in fall 2015. On the other hand, the SM-G955 model is said to sport a larger 6.2-inch screen and also adopt a different aesthetic appearance, thanks to a nearly edge-to-edge display. To achieve this appearance without pushing the limits of the device’s pocket-ability, it’s said to be the first Galaxy model to forgo physical and capacitive navigation buttons in favor of on-screen ones. Xiaomi Mix readily comes to mind on this. Furthermore, the two phones are rumored to come with the names, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.

As is customary over the past years, Samsung is expected to introduce the new lineup at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. The company has so far ensured leaks surrounding the models are curtailed but how long can they do that? We’ll see.

The leak which originated from Weibo gave the idea of the high-end version of the Mi Note 2 carrying a price tag in the region of 5699 Yuan, such a huge one.

Although the source cannot be verified as being authentic but if it turns out to be true, the Mi Note 2 would be on a league of its own. The 5699 Yuan price would make the device the highest priced Xiaomi phone till date. Xiaomi has a reputation for turning out well studded devices that carry very cheap price tags. But then the Mi Note 2 is rumored to feature a spectacular specs line-up one of which Xiaomi has confirmed would be a curved display. Now that’s not just going to be a curved display, as the device is said to use a flexible curved display supplied by LG. Apart from that, there are likely other cutting edge technologies which Xiaomi would likely unveil with the Mi Note 2. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is coming out with a spectacular design that it has been tipped as Chinese version of the ill-fated Samsung Galaxy Note 7, not in its fate but in the design. Who knows, some disappointed previous Galaxy Note 7 owners might as well find succor in the Mi Note 2.

There may likely be two versions of the device and earlier rumors pegged a 4000 Yuan price tag on the device but that rumor wasn’t specific on the version that would have that price. But if the high-end version of the Mi Note 2 carries a 5699 Yuan price tag as rumored, the other versions would be priced less.

Interestingly, Xiaomi instituted a poll to get fan’s opinions about the likely price tag of the device with three options on the table namely 4,999 Yuan, 5,999 Yuan and 6,999 Yuan. As would be expected, majority of the respondents chose the lowest price tag of 4,999 Yuan. In the long run, the online poll may not count but it has afforded the company an idea of what fans want.
