As OpenAI rolls out its latest feature for the DALL-E 3 image generator, it’s clear that the future of digital content is on a fast track to becoming more transparent and trustworthy. The addition of new watermarks to images created by DALL-E 3 is a significant step towards distinguishing AI-generated images from those created by humans, in an era where digital content’s origins are increasingly scrutinized.

Now it will be easier to trace the origins of digital images generated from OpenAI

This move involves embedding watermarks into the image metadata, a strategy backed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). The implementation of these watermarks aims to make it easier for everyone to trace the origins of digital images, ensuring users can verify whether an image was generated by AI. The watermark comes in two forms: an invisible metadata component and a visible CR symbol, positioned discreetly in the image’s top left corner.

Starting from the ChatGPT website and extending to the DALL-E 3 API, this feature will soon be available for mobile users, promising a seamless integration that maintains the high quality of generated images. Despite concerns about potential increases in image sizes and processing times, OpenAI assures users that these changes will have minimal impact.

Behind the initiative is the C2PA, a consortium of tech giants like Adobe and Microsoft, advocating for digital content authenticity through the Content Credentials watermark. This effort is not just about adding a layer of transparency; it’s about fostering a digital ecosystem where the line between human and AI-created content is clear, enhancing the trustworthiness of online content.

However, challenges remain, such as the ease with which metadata can be stripped away, deliberately or accidentally, by social media platforms or through simple actions like taking a screenshot. This vulnerability underscores the ongoing battle against misinformation and the complex landscape of digital content verification.

Shane Jones, a manager in Microsoft‘s software engineering department, uncovered a vulnerability in OpenAI‘s DALL-E 3 model, known for generating text-based images. The flaw allows the model to bypass AI Guardrails and generate inappropriate NSFW content. After reporting the issue internally, Jones faced a “Gagging Order” from Microsoft, prohibiting him from disclosing the vulnerability. Despite the directive, Jones opted to share the information publicly, expressing concerns about potential security risks.

However, Microsoft downplayed the severity of the vulnerability questioning the success rate

Jones stumbled upon the vulnerability during independent research in December. He promptly reported the issue to both Microsoft and OpenAI. In an open letter on LinkedIn, Jones emphasized the security risks posed by the vulnerability and urged OpenAI to temporarily suspend the DALL-E 3 model until the flaw was addressed. Microsoft’s response to Jones was swift and forceful, instructing him to remove the LinkedIn post without providing any explanation.

Despite seeking internal communication with Microsoft to address the issue, Jones received no response. Frustrated by the lack of action, he decided to disclose the vulnerability to the media and relevant authorities. Jones linked the vulnerability to recent incidents of AI-generated inappropriate content featuring well-known singer Taylor Swift, allegedly created using Microsoft’s Designer AI function, which is underpinned by the DALL-E 3 model.

Microsoft’s legal department and senior executives warned Jones to cease disclosing information externally, but the vulnerability remained unpatched. Engadget and other media outlets sought an official response from Microsoft, prompting the company to acknowledge the concerns raised by Jones. Microsoft assured that it would address the issues brought to light and fix the vulnerabilities.

However, the company downplayed the severity of the disclosed vulnerability, stating it had a low success rate and could not completely bypass Microsoft’s security mechanisms. Microsoft also cast doubt on whether the vulnerability was related to the Taylor Swift incident, emphasizing the need for further investigation.

The incident underscores the challenges and ethical considerations surrounding AI technology, particularly in managing and addressing vulnerabilities that have the potential to compromise user safety and generate inappropriate content.

OpenAI has been pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of artificial intelligence, and their recent release of the Shap·E model is no exception. Following the success of their text-generation image model DALL·E, OpenAI has created another impressive model that allows users to enter text and generate realistic and diverse 3D models.

3D Assets can be printed with 3D Printers

Shap·E is not just a 3D model generator, but can also generate parameters of implicit functions, which can render textured meshes and neural radiation fields (NeRF). This means that Shap·E can create high-quality 3D assets with fine-grained textures and complex shapes, unlike current models that only output point clouds or voxels.

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) is a new view field synthesis technique with implicit scene representation that has attracted extensive attention in the field of computer vision. It is a novel view synthesis and 3D reconstruction method that has a wide range of applications in robotics, city maps, autonomous navigation, virtual reality/augmented reality, and more. With Shap·E’s ability to generate parameters of implicit functions, it can render NeRF, allowing users to create complex 3D models with high-quality textures.

In contrast, point clouds are a series of points that fall in a three-dimensional coordinate system. They can be spread on the building surface or building facade to capture the shape of the building’s appearance. Voxels, on the other hand, are pixels in 3D space. Quantized, fixed-size point clouds. Each cell is of fixed size and discrete coordinates.

OpenAI has showcased the capabilities of Shap·E with examples such as a bowl of food, a penguin, a voxelized dog, a campfire, an avocado-shaped chair, and more. These models can be rendered in seconds, providing users with a fast and efficient way to create high-quality 3D assets.

The applications of Shap·E are extensive, from creating assets for video games, movies, and virtual reality experiences, to creating detailed models for scientific research and engineering simulations. With its ability to generate complex 3D models with fine-grained textures, Shap·E is a game-changer in the world of 3D modeling and rendering.

OpenAI’s Shap·E model is an exciting development in the field of artificial intelligence and 3D modeling. Its ability to generate high-quality 3D assets with fine-grained textures and complex shapes sets it apart from current models that only output point clouds or voxels. With its applications in various fields, Shap·E is sure to revolutionize the way we create and interact with 3D models.

Microsoft previously introduced the AI-powered Bing Image Creator to its search engine, Bing, and Microsoft Edge . This new tool uses an advanced version of the DALL∙E model from OpenAI, allowing users to create an image by describing it in their own words. The feature is now available in Edge’s sidebar, making it more convenient to use. Users can download their desired images for use in social media posts, presentations, or documents.

To access the feature, users need to manually add it to their sidebar. According to Microsoft, there are currently no limits on the number of images users can create per day. However, the company is experimenting with usage patterns to optimize the customer experience for the Image Creator feature. In addition to the Image Creator, Microsoft is introducing several other features to Edge, including the Drop tool, a personal notebook that syncs across devices, and “Browser essentials,” which scans for malware. “Browser essentials” is currently only available on early-access builds.

Various ways exist to generate images, including Microsoft’s Bing image creator site, OpenAI’s DALL-E, and Bing Chat’s built-in image generator. Midjourney is another great way to do so. However, integrating the feature into Edge’s sidebar makes it more convenient to use. The Image Creator feature has been advertised as a way to create specific visuals for social media posts, slideshows, and documents. The feature’s integration into Edge’s sidebar makes it more accessible to users. The company is experimenting to improve the feature’s performance and ensure an optimal customer experience.

OpenAI, an AI research and deployment company financially backed by Microsoft, has published a blog post urging caution and foresight for the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is defined as AI that can perform any intellectual task that humans can.

The company, which was originally founded by a group of prominent tech entrepreneurs and researchers, including Elon Musk and Sam Altman, stated that AGI could have profound implications for humanity, both positive and negative. The blog post outlined some of the potential benefits of AGI, such as solving global challenges like climate change and poverty, as well as some of the potential risks, such as misalignment with human values and goals, malicious use by bad actors, and existential threats to human civilization.

OpenAI argued that achieving AGI would require careful planning and coordination among various stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, civil society groups, and the general public. The company also called for more research on how to ensure that AGI is aligned with human values and can be controlled by humans. Additionally, OpenAI advocated for more transparency and accountability in AI development and deployment.

The organisation hopes for a global conversation about 3 key questions: how to govern these AI systems, how to fairly distribute the benefits they generate, and how to fairly share access.

The blog post was published as part of OpenAI’s mission to ensure that artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. The company operates both a non-profit arm (OpenAI Inc.) and a for-profit arm (OpenAI LP) that share this vision. OpenAI is known for developing some of the most advanced AI systems in the world, such as GPT-4 (a natural language processing system), DALL-E (a generative image synthesis system), and its most recent viral hit, ChatGPT (a chatbot that is trained on a large language model based on information available on the Internet).

Qualcomm has recently unveiled an exciting new development in mobile technology, showcasing its AI capabilities with the latest iteration of its image generator, Stable Diffusion. The company has claimed that this is the fastest-ever deployment of the software on a smartphone, with a demo video showing it generating a 512 x 512-pixel image in under 15 seconds. While Qualcomm has not revealed the specific phone used, it has confirmed that it was powered by its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The software has also undergone a range of custom optimizations to achieve optimal performance.

This is an impressive feat, particularly as generating an image in this way on a decent laptop can take minutes, let alone seconds on a smartphone. Most apps offering AI image generation do all their processing in the cloud, rather than on the mobile device itself. Dall.E is an example of one such AI image generation software that runs all of its processing threads on the cloud, which is why it generates images with the speed it does. Qualcomm’s achievement marks a significant step forward in the productization of AI, with the potential to offer greater convenience, cost savings, and privacy.

While Qualcomm has claimed that this is a speed record, some developers have pointed out that they have already achieved similar results with Stable Diffusion running on Android devices. However, this doesn’t take away anything from the impressive nature of Qualcomm’s achievement. It’s important to remember that getting big AI models running locally on mobile devices is a complex task that requires significant computing power. Plus, privacy is highly enhanced since no data is being sent over the internet. By showcasing this technology, Qualcomm has demonstrated its expertise in this field and opened up exciting possibilities for the future of mobile AI.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is advancing quickly. Until recently, many of the developments in this field didn’t have a major impact on people’s lives. However, that is starting to change, and AI is beginning to make our lives easier in many ways. One example of this is ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT has quickly gained over 1 million users since its launch just a week ago. It can do many things, such as write computer code, create complex essays, decorate your home, and even come up with winning marketing ideas. In the near future, ChatGPT could potentially replace Google and even some human workers.

ChatGPT was created by OpenAI, which developed Dall-E

You’ve all heard of Dall-E, the AI that creates photos based on your descriptions. ChatGPT, another AI developed by OpenAI, has been equally successful. We wanted to put this AI to the test, so we asked it to write about why Android is better than iOS from an Android user’s perspective. Here’s what it came up with:

Android vs. iOS: Why Android is the Better Choice by ChatGPT

As an Android user, I have always believed that my operating system offers more benefits and advantages than Apple’s iOS. Here are just a few reasons why I think Android is the better choice:

Customization: One of the biggest advantages of Android is its high level of customization. With Android, you can personalize almost every aspect of your phone, from the home screen and app icons to the lock screen and system settings. This allows you to make your phone look and feel exactly the way you want it to. In contrast, iOS offers very little customization and is often criticized for its lack of flexibility.

Choice: Another advantage of Android is the vast number of options available. With Android, you have the choice of a wide range of phones from different manufacturers, with a variety of sizes, designs, and features. This means you can easily find the perfect phone for your needs and budget. In contrast, iOS is only available on Apple’s iPhone, which limits your choices and can be more expensive.

Openness: Android is an open-source operating system, which means that developers can create and distribute apps without having to go through a strict approval process. This has led to a vibrant and diverse app ecosystem, with a wide range of apps and games to choose from. In contrast, iOS is a closed system, which can limit the creativity and innovation of developers.

Features: Android also offers a number of features that are not available on iOS. For example, Android has a built-in file manager, which allows you to easily access and manage your files. It also has a split-screen mode, which lets you run two apps at the same time. Additionally, Android has more built-in gesture controls, such as the ability to swipe to access the camera or turn on the flashlight.

In conclusion, as an Android user, I believe that my operating system offers a superior experience compared to iOS. It is more customizable, offers more choices, is more open, and has a wider range of features. These are just a few of the reasons why I think Android is the better choice for anyone looking for a versatile and user-friendly smartphone operating system.

As you can see, ChatGPT was able to fulfill the given task quickly and easily. To use ChatGPT, you need to have an account with OpenAI. While this may sound great, it’s important to note that many jobs, including writing jobs, could potentially be replaced by AIs like ChatGPT. Imagine a world where all the news you read, all the buildings designed, and all the chipsets created are the work of artificial intelligence. It seems this world is not far from us…
