The reason for that is due to a trademark issue in the US and EU. A new trademark filing has revealed what may be the new name for its fast charging technology.

According to a trademark filing in Europe, the new name for OnePlus’ fast charge technology may be “Warp Charge”. The application was filed on Friday, the 13th of July and includes the new logo for the charging technology. It is also said to fall under class 9 of trademark classifications. Items under this class include most of the electronics in use today.

In OnePlus’s application, the trademark will be used for data cables, power adapters, cell phone battery chargers, electrical adapters, chargers for electric batteries and wireless chargers.

You may be wondering why “wireless chargers” is on the list since OnePlus doesn’t have any phone that supports wireless charging neither does it make wireless chargers. Since it is a trademark application, it can as well cover future products.

The filing hasn’t been approved yet. Once done, we expect OnePlus to make an announcement and rebrand its charging technology and related accessories.

What do you think of Warp Charge? Does it roll off the tongue like Dash Charge?

Dash Charge allows owners of supported OnePlus devices to charge their battery up to 60% in just 30 minutes. Sadly, it appears OnePlus will not be able to use the phrase “Dash Charge” anymore.

When the OnePlus 6 was announced last week, OnePlus didn’t mention “Dash Charge” all through the event. Also, if you head to the official site, save for India, the chargers and cables have been renamed Fast Charge.

The reason for this seems to stem from a trademark issue in the US and EU. According to Android Police, OnePlus said they filed a trademark application in the EU and US for Dash Charge back in 2016 only for the EU trademark office to reject their application as two companies challenged it – one is Amazon and the other is Bragi, a wireless audio company.

The reason why both companies challenged the application is said to be due to a “likelihood of confusion”. Amazon uses the phrase “Dash Replenishment” for its reordering service while Bragi has a pair of wireless earbuds called the Dash Pro.

OnePlus didn’t say anything about its US trademark filing but it appears it may be dropping the phrase in all countries except India.

The OnePlus 5 will officially launch on Tuesday, 20th of June. Virtually all the details about the phone have been leaked or revealed by OnePlus itself, save for the battery capacity. A weibo post by Kumamoto technology shows a snapshot of a page revealing the OnePlus 5′ battery and charging technology.

The heading of the page is the slogan that OnePlus used for its Dash Charge Technology. So just like the OnePlus 3 and 3T, a 30-minutes charge will suffice for a day on the OnePlus 5.

The first paragraph reveals the battery capacity to be 3,300mAh. This is 100mAh smaller than that of the OnePlus 3T and shouldn’t come as a surprise since we already know that the OnePlus 5 has a smaller body than the OP3T. Notwithstanding, battery life should be similar on both devices.

The rest of the text just explains how Dash Charge works. Unlike other fast charging technologies that causes the phone to warm up, Dash Charge keeps the phone cool.

READ MORE: Is OnePlus Preparing to Launch a New Power Bank?
The OnePlus 5 will have a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display, 8GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 835 processor. It will feature dual rear cameras and a 16MP front facing sensor. Price is still unknown but is expected to be higher than that of the OP3T.

With respect to the design, quite a number of folks have complained about the similarity to the iPhone 7 Plus and the OPPO R11. However, Co-founder Pete Lau is confident that such talks will stop when the device launches.

But a tweet through their official account might be hinting at the release of another product that we think is a new OnePlus Power Bank.

OnePlus released its first power bank in 2015. It was available in silk white and sandstone black just like the OnePlus One and had a capacity of 10,000mAh. There were two USB ports available and a microUSB port for charging.

What I really liked about the OnePlus power bank was its shake feature. It had no buttons, so to find out how much charge you had left, you would have to shake it and the LED indicators would light up. It had 4 LEDs, each one representing roughly 25% charge. The number of LEDs that lit up gave you a rough estimate of how much charge you had left.

Yesterday, OnePlus announced via Twitter that its power bank was out of stock. And it seems it will remain that way for a while as the rest of the tweet says we should stay tuned for some exciting new products. This is a hint that OnePlus is working on a new power bank which is long overdue to be honest.

There is no info on what to expect but some of the features we want to see include fast charging (input and output), a USB Type-C output port, as well as a standard USB output port. We presume OnePlus may find a way to incorporate its Dash Charge Technology into the new power bank. We are not particular about the capacity but we wouldn’t mind having one bigger than 10,000mAh.

The new Power Bank may be released alongside the OnePlus 5 or might even be announced before or after its launch.

Most of us were probably expecting a new charger or an electronic product at most. Alas! Turns out we were wrong. The new product is actually an energy drink, the Dash Energy Drink. I bet you didn’t see that coming.

OnePlus says the Dash Energy Drink is nutritional and will “unlock a person’s hidden potential. OnePlus is even using the “a day’s power in half an hour” slogan to market the energy drink. They say with the energy drink, you don’t need to sleep for eight hours to recharge. That time can now be cut down to just 30 minutes with the Dash Energy Drink. This is probably a joke.

Interested in testing out this theory? Then you can get the Dash Energy Drink starting tomorrow. If you live in London, you will be able to get a taste of the drink at Bishops Square, Spitalfields, London between 12 midday to 4PM. For those in India, the OnePlus Experience Store in Bangalore will have it starting at 11AM IST. EU residents can enter the online raffle(not yet active as at the time of writing) to win a pack of four energy drinks.

READ MORE: OnePlus 2 Android 7.1.1 Nougat Update Finally Nearng Release

This is a highly limited edition product. So hurry if you want to have a taste of it. OnePlus says it is also slashing 15% off its Dash Charge Bundle. The bundle includes a Dash Charge travel adapter and a supported USB-C cable. This is a chance to grab a spare for your OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T too is a limited sale.

Since the Dash Energy Drink is a real product, does it count as an April Fool’s joke?

Also, the OnePlus CEO, Carl Pei has hinted that a new Dash Charge product is arriving.

The Dash Charge feature on OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T let users to charge the batteries to rapidly charge the batteries to 63 percent from scratch with just 30 minutes of charging. Since official tweets hints the coming of a new Dash Charge product, speculations have it that the company may announce a new power bank that is equipped with Dash Charge rapid charging feature. Other speculations suggest that as the Dash Car Charger from the company has gone out of stock, it is likely that OnePlus may announce a related product.

Some may think that it may be an April Fool’s Day prank, but it does not seem so as the announcement is set to happen on March 31. Secondly, the tweets have come from the official Twitter channel of OnePlus as well as from the company’s CEO. These things suggest that there is a legitimate announcement slated to happen on Friday.

We will have to wait for few more hours to find out the new Dash Charge product from OnePlus.

Today is no different. Today’s battle is between the newly announced OnePlus 3T and Google’s own Pixel. First a brief introduction of both devices.

The OnePlus 3T is the ”successor” to the OnePlus 3 that was launched a couple of months ago. OnePlus has added a couple of improvements to make the already great OnePlus 3 better with this new device. There is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, a larger 34000mAh battery, an upgraded 16MP selfie camera, and a 128GB storage option.

The Pixel is made by Google even though it is made by HTC. This is the device taking the baton from Nexus devices as google has alread shut down that line. It is the first android device made by Google the way they want and how they want android devices to be. It comes in two sizes: a 5-inch and a 5.5” variant which both have 32GB and 128GB storage options. And apart from those two differences, they are the same all through.

Round One: Display

The OnePlus 3T has a 5.5″ Full HD Optic AMOLED Display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The Pixel, on the other hand, has two display sizes. There’s a 5-inch model for those who want something compact and a 5.5-inch version called the Pixel XL, for those who want the extra screen estate. Both phones have AMOLED displays too and have Gorilla Glass 4 protection but the OnePlus 3T has a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Pixel XL.

Round 2: Chip, ROM, and RAM

Both phones share the same Snapdragon 821 chip but are clocked differently. OnePlus has gone with the highest clocking at 2.35GHz but the Pixels are clocked at 2.15GHz. Will you notice the difference? It’s hard to tell because reviews say the Pixel is a very fast phone and that should be no surprise. The OnePlus isn’t a slow beast too. It’s Oxygen OS is well optimized and can be said to be one of the best ROMs after stock android.

The OnePlus 3T will, however, be able to run more apps at the same time with its generous 6GB of RAM. The Pixel, on the other hand has just 4GB of RAM on both versions but that should be enough even for power users.

There are no SD card slots on any of the phones so you have to choose either 64GB or 128GB of storage if you want the OnePlus 3T or 32GB or 128GB if you want the Pixel.

Round 3: Cameras

The Pixel has received very high praises for the performance of its primary sensor. There is a 12.3-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture, EIS, PDAF, and laser autofocus on the rear and an 8MP f/2.4 sensor in front for selfies.

The OnePlus 3T uses the same primary camera as the OnePlus 3, a Sony IMX298 sensor which has been rated average at best but it now has Electronic Image Stabilization in addition to OIS to allow you record more stable videos.

The company has given the front camera an upgrade. Moving it from 8MP all the way up to a 16MP Samsung 3P8SP sensor which allows you to take better-looking selfies and live stream in HD. Now that Whatsapp has added video calling to its list of features, this should come in handy.

Round 4: Software

OnePlus touts their Oxygen OS as better than stock android but that is a debate for another day. The 3T runs version 3.5 of Oxygen OS and it brings a number of customizations that you won’t find on stock android. It is still based on Marshmallow though but OnePlus promises an Android Nougat update by the end of the year. We hope the update hits phones before Christmas.

The Pixel, on the other hand, runs the latest version of Android, Nougat 7.1. It is the phone that will get a new Android update first before any other device in the world. If you want to stay ahead of everyone else when it comes to software updates, the Pixel is the device to go for.

Round 5: Battery, Other Features, and Price

The OnePlus 3T packs a 3400mAh battery which is larger than the 2770mAh in the Pixel but just a tiny bit smaller than the 3450mAh battery in the Pixel XL. They both have fast charging but a comparison video puts OnePlus’s Dash Charge ahead of the Pixel’s USB Power Delivery fast charge.

While we have covered the basics, each phone still has certain features that will help determine which one you eventually settle for.

The OnePlus, for example, has dual SIM slots (nano only) allowing you the choice of having two different lines on one phone. The Pixel, on the other hand, is a single SIM device. The OnePlus has no IP rating but the Pixel is splash and dust resistant.

Pricing for the OnePlus starts at $349 for the 64GB model and $479 for the 128GB version. The Pixel starts at $649 for the 32GB version of the 5-inch model and goes up to $749 for the 128GB option. The Pixel XL is priced at $769 for the 32GB version and $869 for the 128GB variant.

Conclusion

Both phones are really good but the OnePlus 3T has a lot going for it such as storage, RAM, and most importantly price. Its cheap price doesn’t mean they have compromised on quality either. Google’s Pixel wins in the camera department (I am sure of that) and has the upper hand when it comes to running the latest software but it is damn expensive!

Basically, smartphone batteries have seen little or no improvement in the type of battery in use, perhaps due to advancement in RAM, processor, display technology which is believed now makes the smartphones use less battery capacity.

The only noticeable advancement that has come to the battery should be that of Fast Charging technologies which usually give the impression that instead of hours of charging, you can now achieve a reasonable amount of charge capacity in just minutes. Now OnePlus, with its DASH charge technology isn’t intent on keeping quiet about the capabilities of its charging technology.

Recently, the guys at OnePlus pitched the OnePlus 3 DASH charge against the Samsung Galaxy S7’s Adaptive fast charge and the results showed the OnePlus 3 DASH charge performed better than the Galaxy S7’s. It’s all up in a video clip if you’re interested in having a peek.

It is quite surprising that the pocket-friendly flagship OnePlus 3 can compete with the top-end, expensive Galaxy S7 (some thinks Samsung’s just got the name, not the juice) but then charge time varies depending on phone configuration, settings, usage while charging and power source and OnePlus stated that fact in the video.

Both smartphones were subjected to their own charging technologies for 30 minutes, with both starting off from 1% of battery power left. In the end, when the results rolled in, the OnePlus 3 was able to achieve up to 64% charge while the Samsung Galaxy S7 reached just 50%.

That’s not all, another test was done with both displays turned on and this time the results were incredible, if not embarrasing. Starting off from 5% apiece, while OnePlus 3 was able to achieve 67% charge capacity in 30 minutes, the Galaxy S7 only got to 23% in the same time duration! Here though, the display resolution of both smartphones would play a vital role, with the Galaxy S7 sporting a higher QHD dsplay than OnePlus 3’s FHD. Also, even though both flagships boast of 3000mAh batteries, Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface could have made the difference, with a notorious reputation of exerting too much strain on the battery.

In all, the OnePlus 3 DASH charging technology deserves some accolades for this feat and it only shows OnePlus means business when they say their smartphones are flagship grade with affordable price tags.

As mentioned, there can be quite a few factors that affect charging times and rates, even if both smartphones have equal 3,000 mAh batteries. Samsung’s TouchWiz interface has been notorious for being a resource hog, though it has certainly improved over the years. Still, the Galaxy S7 is loaded with features that could affect how fast it can gulp power, especially when the display is left on.

Still, it’s an impressive feat for OnePlus, especially considering the DASH Charge technology hasn’t been out the market for even three months. The company is definitely not shy about singing its praises, going as far as showing how fast it works even while playing a game, one of those “don’t try this at home” scenarios. The one drawback to DASH Charge, aside from lacking long-term real-world tests, is that it will work only with OnePlus’ USB-C cable in addition to the official charger. Considering how OnePlus 3 is not exactly using the standard USB Type-C, that might mean having to carry around another compliant USB Type-C cable for everything else other than the OnePlus 3.

Its launch has reinforced the fact that High End Low Price (HELP) phones are here to stay.

The OP3 is available in only one colour for now i.e. graphite grey, and a soft gold version expected in July. Although, news reaching us today says the phone might be getting two more colour variants viz.: red and green. Don’t worry there’s no rose gold (we are tired of that colour already).

According to the source, the red version, which looks awesome by the way and matches with the red and white charging cable, was spotted on the OnePlus website but was later taken down. While we do not know the reason for its removal, we do hope the phone sees the light of day.

The green version on the other hand which looks more like teal is pretty attractive as well and will get heads turning when you pull it out of your pocket. Both pictures show that the phones will retain the black bands on the back and the black bezels in front.

If OnePlus decides not to release these new colours, we’ll just have to make do with the protective cases which comes in bamboo, karbon, rosewood, black apricot, and the much loved sandstone.

The OnePlus 3 has a 5.5” FHD optic AMOLED screen, a snapdragon 820 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, a fingerprint scanner, NFC, and a 3000mAh battery with DASH Charge just for $399.

Although OnePlus is yet to reveal a final date for the release of its new OnePlus 3 flagship, rumors state that the phone will be announced this month itself. Now, it looks like the rumors does have some backing as the model OnePlus A3000 most likely the OnePlus 3 was just certified in China. In case you are wondering, it was not certified by TENAA, but rather the phone received 3C certification.

This gives us some insight about the charging specs of the OnePlus 3 and here’s where things get really interesting. The certification listing reveals that the phone will support fast charging at 5V 4A, which translates into a maximum wattage of 20W. This would really speed up the charging process. But what’s even more interesting is that it the phone is said to come with OPPO’s low voltage charging technology instead of Qualcomm’s Quick Charging tech.

So, how did OnePlus manage to use OPPO’s fast charging tech inside its new flagship smartphone? At this moment, we have no answer, but we wil have to wait for the official unveiling event of the OnePlus 3 to get more answers.

In related news, we had seen the company trademark the name “Dash Charge” recently. Judging from the name, we expected it to be some kind of fast charging technology from the company. However, we are not quite sure whether the fast charging on the new OnePlus device will end up being called as this.

As for the specs, the OnePlus 3 is expected to come with Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There would be another version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Pricing would be competitive as well, expected to start at 1999 Yuan translating into just $310. This would make it one of the best value for money smartphone in the market right now, even beating Xiaomi Mi 5 which features just 3GB RAM on the base model.
