DASUNG Technology is trying something unusual with smartphones, or at least how we look at them.

The Beijing-based company announced a display solution that turns regular phone content into a high-refresh-rate e-ink experience. The device is called Link, and it’s essentially an external 6.7-inch e-ink screen designed to mirror a phone’s display in real time.

And yes, it’s just a screen with a battery to power it up. It has no processor, camera, or any other regular smartphone hardware.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because DASUNG has released a Link device before. This new version is an upgrade over the previous generation, with the company claiming noticeably faster refresh speeds and smoother performance. According to DASUNG, the experience is now close to that of a traditional LCD screen, at least in terms of motion.

e-ink screen that refreshes at 60Hz!

The big change here is DASUNG’s proprietary 60Hz e-ink ultra-high refresh rate technology. E-ink displays are typically limited to static content like books or documents, and even mild animations can look choppy. DASUNG says this new Link can handle more demanding scenarios, including smooth scrolling and even dynamic video playback, while still keeping the core benefits of e-ink.

The screen itself is a 6.7-inch panel with a resolution of 300PPI. Like other e-ink displays, it doesn’t emit light; instead reflects ambient light in a way that resembles paper.

Most importantly, this isn’t an e-ink smartphone. DASUNG describes the Link as an “e-ink screen mobile phone display.” It’s essentially a screen projector for your phone. Rather than running its own processor or software, the device mirrors your smartphone and relies entirely on your phone’s CPU, RAM, and interface. Whatever phone you use, that’s the experience you get, just rendered on an e-ink display.

It’s kinda hard to wrap your head around, so here’s a video of previous-gen DASUNG Link in action. The video also sheds light on its limitations, like it doesn’t pair with the latest versions of Android and iOS.

DASUNG says the Link (Ultra-high refresh rate wireless version) will go on sale on major e-commerce platforms starting January 5, 2026, at 8:00 PM. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet.

Dasung Paperlike 103 Specifications

Dasung says they have used their proprietary technology to achieve a 60Hz refresh rate on E-Ink displays, delivering a performance akin to LCD screens. While traditional E-Ink screens typically have low refresh rates of around 10Hz, this new tech enhances smoothness and responsiveness.

However, 60Hz E-Ink monitors are not entirely new, as Modos Tech introduced a 13.3-inch Paper Monitor last year with similar features, including monochrome and color options, smooth video playback, and open-source development kits.

Coming to the specs, Paperlike 103 features a 10.3-inch matte E-Ink screen with an 1872 x 1404 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio, offering sharp visuals. It is ideal for tasks like coding, document editing, and web browsing, and includes Auto-Clear technology to reduce ghosting for a clearer viewing experience.

It comes with a CNC-machined aluminum alloy body, providing a sleek yet durable design. The device measures 239mm x 195mm x 5mm, with an ultra-thin profile that enhances portability.

The device equips a dual-tone front lighting system with adjustable warm, cool, and mixed light settings to suit different environments. For users who prefer a natural reading experience, the light can be turned off entirely. Additionally, it sports capacitive touch technology, allowing intuitive navigation, pinch-to-zoom functionality, and other interactive features commonly found in tablets.

The Paperlike 103 supports Type-C connectivity, enabling seamless integration with computers, Android phones, and tablets. It is compatible with operating systems like Windows and Linux and supports various screen modes, including mirroring, extending, horizontal, vertical, and split-screen displays.

The monitor also features physical buttons for quick adjustments to contrast and display modes, ensuring user convenience. The package also includes a dedicated protective cover, a portable stand, and a Type-C to Type-C data cable, enhancing its practicality for users on the go.

Dasung has released a cheaper version of its Paperlike HD E Ink monitor with a 13.3-inch display. The new monitor is a seemingly downgraded version of the original model and lacks touchscreen functionality and front light. The price tag of the new Dasung monitor makes it the cheapest in the Paperlike HD E Ink lineup.

The signature offering in the Dasung Paperlike HD E Ink series is the Paperlike HD FT which comes with a touchscreen and front light. The Paperlike HD F omits a touchscreen interface but features a front-lit display. The new model, of course, lacks a touchscreen interface but this further accentuates the display itself, as it is more apparent than previously. The absence of a backlight for the display also means that the user will have to rely on external light sources to illuminate the workspace at night.

Apart from the display and backlight, the other specs of the Paperlike HD E Ink monitor are retained from its previous iteration. The 13.3-inch E Ink display has a resolution of 2200 x 1650 pixels and utilizes Dasung’s Turbo high-speed refresh technology. The new monitor also sports Mini-HDMI and USB Type-C interfaces for connection to external devices. The model weighs about 580 grams and is lighter than the top model which weighs about 640g.

Pricing & Availability

The Dasung Paperlike HD E Ink monitor is priced at $683 and can be purchased from the Good e-Reader Store. The two other models (Paperlike HD FT and Paperlike HD F) are currently priced at $798.99 and $748.99 respectively. The new monitor can also be ordered directly from Dasung and is priced at 3,999 yuan ($558).

Dasung Paperlike 253 U E-Ink Monitor specs & features

The Dasung Paperlike 253 U E-Ink Monitor is a new type of monitor that uses E-Ink technology. E Ink is the same technology that is used in e-readers, and it has a number of advantages over traditional LCD and OLED monitors. One of the biggest advantages of E Ink is that it is much easier on the eyes. E Ink displays do not emit any light, so they do not cause eye strain or headaches. This makes them ideal for people who spend long periods of time working on a computer.

Another advantage of E Ink is that it is very energy efficient. E Ink displays do not require a backlight, so they can run for weeks on a single charge. This makes them a great option for people who want to save energy.

The Dasung Paperlike 253 U E-Ink Monitor has a number of other features that make it a great choice for people who want a more comfortable and efficient computing experience. It has a high resolution of 3200×1800, and it supports multiple connectivity options, including HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C. It also has built-in speakers and a front light.

The Dasung Paperlike 253 U E-Ink Monitor is a unique and innovative product, but it is also quite expensive. The base model starts at US$1,798.00, and there are a number of add-on options that can increase the price even further. For example, a front light that illuminates the screen costs an additional US$100, and a wireless version that supports Miracast and AirPlay costs an additional US$150.

Dasung has just launched an interesting new product in China. The device is the new Link E-Ink display, which is made for smartphones. While E-Ink isn’t exactly an exciting new product by any means, this device can project the smartphone’s display to look like paper or E-Ink to be exact.

The company has just announced the Link E-Ink, which it claims is the first of its kind in the world. This device sports a tall 6.7 inch E-Ink display and is available in two color options, namely Phantom Blue and Space Gray. The Link E-Ink is housed in a thin and light aluminum ally body that has a width of just 8mm. Furthermore, it adopts the CNC integrated engraving technology that enables it to output the E-Ink display from connected smartphones. Think of this device as an external display for smartphones.

When paired with a smartphone, the device can basically project the screen being displayed on the device on its own E-Ink panel. The Dasung Link sports a 6.7 inch E-Ink panel that has a 300ppi density. It does not emit light so it has no blue light, no strobe, and can even display screens of smartphones of different sizes and also supports iPhones as well. The link between the smartphone and the Link E-Ink display is high speed and has barely any latency between them. So one shouldn’t face any delays while using the external display.

Furthermore, it also supports being controlled directly or reversely from the partner phone itself. In other words, it functions as a regular smartphone once paired. There are also two variants of this device, one that connects it to the handset via a wired connection and another that supports wireless connection. The device is available for purchase on JD.com starting today (21st December 2022) and starts from 1,799 Yuan (roughly 258 US Dollars).
