Acer has announced three new large-screen tablets aimed at users looking for productivity, entertainment, and everyday computing on bigger displays. The new lineup includes the Iconia Duo S14, Iconia Duo S12, and Iconia Duo D12, offering a range of specifications across different price segments.

The new models feature display sizes of up to 14.2 inches, MediaTek processors ranging from the Helio G99 to the Dimensity 8300, large batteries, and support for accessories such as active styluses. With the latest launch, Acer is targeting users who want laptop-like screen sizes without sacrificing portability.

Acer Iconia Duo S14: The Flagship Model

For buyers looking for a more affordable tablet, Acer has introduced the Iconia Duo D12. The device features a 12.2-inch display with a 2400 × 1600 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

Power comes from the MediaTek Helio G99 processor, accompanied by up to 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Users can further expand storage through a microSD card slot.

The tablet packs an 8,000mAh battery and includes an 8MP rear camera alongside a 5MP front-facing camera. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6, USB-C, and dual speakers.

The Snapdragon chip leads in CPU performance by a notable 33%, making it more efficient for processing-intensive tasks and multitasking. The Dimensity 8300 maintains a slight lead in GPU performance. It also scores higher in memory and UX tests.

Geekbench comparison

On Geekbench, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 clearly leads in single-core performance with a score of 1,834 — about 29% higher than the Dimensity 8300’s 1,421. This means better responsiveness in everyday tasks like app launches and scrolling.

Multi-core performance is much closer, with the 7+ Gen 3 slightly ahead at 4,498 compared to the Dimensity 8300’s 4,398 — a modest 2% difference. While both chips offer excellent overall CPU capabilities, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 has the edge in scenarios that demand strong single-threaded performance.

CPU

It also features a range of camera capabilities, including Video HDR, Video Bokeh, Video EIS, Video NR, and AI Color for Capture. Additionally, the camera brings AI-based (auto exposure, auto focus, auto white balance, and face detection), just like the Snapdragon chip. Both chips also offer up to 4K video recording.

Connectivity

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is equipped with an integrated X63 5G modem, featuring maximum download and upload speeds of 5Gbps and 3.5Gbps, respectively. On Wi-Fi 7, the maximum connection speed is 5.8Gbps. Additionally, the chip offers a range of features, including AI-Enhanced Signal Boost, Qualcomm Smart Transmit 2.0, Qualcomm 5G PowerSave 2.0, and Wi-Fi Optimised Connectivity, to enhance power saving and connection stability.

The Dimensity 8300 offers a peak download speed of 5.17Gbps. It doesn’t support Wi-Fi 7 but does offer a higher standard Bluetooth connection.

Both the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and Dimensity 8300 are impressive mid-range chipsets, offering near-flagship performance — but they excel in different areas. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 stands out with a stronger CPU, making it ideal for responsive UI and demanding multitasking.

On the other hand, the Dimensity 8300 holds its ground with better GPU scores and a more flexible camera setup with up to 320MP support. However, it lacks Wi-Fi 7 and lags slightly behind in raw CPU power. If performance and connectivity are your top priorities, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is the better pick. MediaTek, a prominent semiconductor company, has announced a partnership with Google to improve the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of smartphones powered by its Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chipsets. 

This collaboration centers on optimizing Google’s Gemini Nano, a large language model (LLM) designed for mobile use, to function more efficiently on these MediaTek processors.

Smartphones often rely on cloud-based solutions for complex AI tasks. The optimization of Gemini Nano for these Dimensity chipsets will allow phones to handle more AI processing directly on the device. 

This approach offers several benefits including enhanced privacy, improved security protocol, greater reliability, reduced latency (faster response times), and the ability to function even with limited internet connectivity.

Currently, there are only a handful of smartphones that are equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 9300 and Dimensity 8300 processors. The former is a premium SoC, so you will find it in flagship devices. While the latter is a mid-range / premium mid-ranger tier chipset.

MediaTek and Google will also release an application package (APK) running on Dimensity 8300 and Dimensity 9300 to extend compatibility with Gemini Nano. This will make it easier for developers and OEMs to deploy Gemini Nano applications.

Now that MediaTek has joined the AI movement, Google’s robust AI features will no longer be limited to a few select segments dominated by chips from Qualcomm, Samsung, and Google. 

Also, the emphasis on the Dimensity 8300 chipset means that soon, even more affordable mid-range devices will be able to enjoy advanced on-device AI experiences.

Xiaomi is set to launch the highly anticipated Redmi K70 series tomorrow in China. But it appears that another hyped series could soon be making its return as well. The device in question is the Xiaomi Civi 4, which recently got a key spec tipped. So let’s have a look.

Xiaomi Civi 4 Specs

Back in September, the Chinese tech giant’s Civi 4 model was spotted on the IMEI database. This listing revealed the 24031PN0DC model number and hinted at its launch timeframe. The company could announce the Xiaomi Civi 4 in March 2024. Unfortunately, finer details regarding this device are still unclear, although a tipster recently hinted at one of its key specifications.

Tipster Anvin on X (formerly Twitter) shared that he believes the Civi 4 model could be launched with the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra SoC. This doesn’t seem too far fetched considering the predecessor, the Civi 3, launched with the Dimensity 8200 Ultra. Apart from this, a separate leak claims that the Civi 4 will get an upgraded front facing camera and an OmniVision primary sensor for the rear camera module.

Similar to existing Civi phones, the CIvi 4 will likely target the female demographic again. However, finer details regarding the smartphone are still unclear. So take this news with a pinch of salt and stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Qualcomm and MediaTek have recently unveiled their latest flagship processors, namely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300. Both companies are reportedly gearing up to announce sub-flagship chipsets like the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Dimensity 8300 shortly, according to a recent leak. 

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, Dimensity 8300 launch timeframe

According to tipster WHY LAB, both chipsets will debut in the next two weeks. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip is expected to debut first, followed by the Dimensity 8300 chip.

It is speculated that the Honor 100 debuting on Nov. 23 in China will be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. The same chip is expected to power other smartphones, such as the Vivo S18, Vivo V30, and OnePlus Ace 3 (global name: OnePlus Nord 4). On the other hand, the Redmi K70e appears to be an ideal candidate to feature the Dimensity 8300 chipset. The K70 series, which also includes the K70 and K70 Pro, is expected to debut by the end of this month in China.

As per reports, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is equipped with a high-performance core running at 2.63GHz, three performance cores operating at 2.40GHz, and four efficiency cores clocked at 1.80GHz. Additionally, it is equipped with an Adreno 720 GPU.

As far as the Dimensity 8300 chipset is concerned, it is speculated to include one Cortex-X3 super-large core clocked at 2.8GHz, accompanied by three Cortex-A715 performance cores running at 2.4GHz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores operating at 1.6GHz. In terms of graphics, the Dimensity 8300 integrates a G520 MC6 GPU with a frequency of 850MHz.

The SD7G3 and D8300 are said to be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process, which means these chips will offer top-notch performance and better power efficiency on sub-flagship phones.

MediaTek had recently announced the new Dimensity 9200+ SoC, which is its latest processor for high end smartphones. But it appears that the company is also planning to launch a new Dimensity 8300 chipset for mid range devices as well. Now, a new leak has revealed some of its key specifications. So here are all the details.

MediaTek Dimensity 8300 SoC to feature a 1+3+4 architecture

The leak arrives from tipster Revengus who shared the latest information on Twitter. Looking at this online post, the Dimensity 8300 will feature a 1+3+4 architecture. In other words, it will have a single Cortex X3 core that clocks in at 2.8GHz, along with 3x Cortex A714 core that operates at 2.4Ghz, and 4x Cortex A510 cores that has a clock speed of 1.6GHz. Furthermore, this chipset will be paired with an ARM Mali G52 MC6 GPU that runs at 850MHz.

The upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is believed to launch sometime later this year and will likely be positioned right below the upcoming Dimensity 9300, which is a flagship grade chipset. This processor might debut around November 2023, so we can expect the Dimensity 8300 might also be announced around this time.

Back in December 2022, the Chinese smartphone maker iQOO had announced the Neo 7 SE model with the Dimensity 8200 SoC. So, there is a possibility that the brand will ship its next gen models in the successor to the Neo 7 SE model.
