On Geekbench, the Dimensity 9400e outperforms the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in both single-core and multi-core tests — scoring 2,208 vs 2,074 in single-core and 7,310 vs 6,651 in multi-core.

That’s roughly a 6.4% gain in single-core and a 9.9% advantage in multi-core performance for the Dimensity chip. These indicate faster performance and better multitasking on Dimensity 9400e devices.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Dimensity 9400e

Single core

2,074

2,208

Multi core

6,651

7,310

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 vs Dimensity 9400e: Key differences you should know

CPU, GPU & NPU

Both chipsets are built on TSMC’s 4nm process and use the ARMv9.2 architecture, but their CPU configurations differ. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 has one Cortex-X4 core and seven Cortex-A720 cores, while the Dimensity 9400e uses four Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores.

Since Cortex-X4 is more powerful and efficient than Cortex-A720 and that Dimensity 9400e has more of it, it’s able to outperform the Snapdragon chip’s CPU on multiple benchmarks. However, it’s the other way around for the GPU, as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4’s Adreno 825 offers a more reliable and consistent gaming performance than the Immortalis-G720 GPU on the Dimensity 9400e.

The chips also feature NPUs for on-device AI capabilities. The Snapdragon chip has a hexagon NPU that’s 44% faster and has 2x larger shared memory than its predecessor. MediaTek’s NPU 790 brings support for generative AI and popular large language models (LLMs).

Camera and Imaging

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 features a Qualcomm Spectra 18-bit triple ISP, supporting up to 320MP resolution and 4K video recording. Additionally, it supports real-time semantic segmentation for photos and videos with up to 250 layers for precise optimizations.

The Dimensity 9400e matches 320MP camera support but goes further with 8K video recording. Both chipsets come with a range of camera features for enhanced output.

Connectivity

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset is equipped with an X75 5G modem that allows 4.2Gbps of maximum download speed. Over a Wi-Fi 7 connection, it can download stuff at a peak speed of 5.8Gbps. The Dimensity 9400e goes further by offering higher download speeds — 7Gbps on 5G and 7.3Gbps over Wi-Fi 7.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 vs Dimensity 9400e: which is a better choice?

Both the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400e are impressive flagship-tier chipsets, offering excellent performance, AI capabilities, and connectivity features. However, they take different approaches to get there.

The Dimensity 9400e consistently delivers stronger CPU performance across both AnTuTu and Geekbench, thanks to its more aggressive all-big-core setup with four Cortex-X4 cores. That makes it a better pick for power users who rely on raw CPU speed and multitasking. Plus, it also offers higher download speeds over Wi-Fi and 5G connections.

In contrast, Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 shines in GPU performance, which gives it an edge in gaming scenarios. It also features Qualcomm’s excellent camera and AI stack, making it a well-rounded option for creators and gamers alike.

If faster CPU and next-gen 5G speeds are the top priorities, the Dimensity 9400e takes the lead. But if gaming, GPU stability, and Qualcomm’s software optimizations are at the top of your list, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 remains a strong contender.

OnePlus and MediaTek have jointly announced a new strategic partnership centred on gaming for China. The information was shared through official channels, confirming that the two companies are working closely on a flagship chipset aimed at improving gaming performance. While the specifics are yet to be officially detailed, the official poster rolled out by the brand confirms the May 14 launch. Most likely, the rumored Dimensity 9400e SoC is expected to go official on the said date.

Dimensity 9400e: What to expect?

OnePlus and Mediatek to make a new announcement on May 14 in China

The Dimensity 9400e chipset is said to be a refined version of the Dimensity 9300+, bringing enhanced performance for gaming and multitasking scenarios. The partnership aims to bring smoother frame rates and better thermal performance, especially for titles demanding high GPU loads. It is expected to rival Qualcomm’s chip – the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.

According to industry speculation, the Dimensity 9400e could serve as a bridge between the current flagship and the next-generation Dimensity 9500 series. The chip will debut first on OnePlus phones, though Vivo and other brands are also expected to adopt it. It is speculated that the upcoming phones, such as the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing, Vivo X300 Pro Mini, Vivo X200 FE (global), Realme GT 7 (global), Realme Neo 7 Pro, and OnePlus Nord 5 (global), will feature the new chip.

The new “Wind Tunnel Gaming Core” embedded within the chip is believed to optimize system resources dynamically based on in-game conditions. This feature is aimed at delivering consistent gaming performance, especially in competitive titles. This move also shows OnePlus’s growing focus on mobile gaming as a key product differentiator.

As mentioned above, the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition will feature Dimensity 9400e. With the new chip onboard, the device is expected to rival the likes of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4-powered iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro and Redmi Turbo 4 Pro in China.

The OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra, which is expected to launch alongside the Ace 5 Racing Edition, is likely to house the more powerful Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset. The new Ace 5-series phones are expected to debut this month in China.

Aimed at outperforming Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Early benchmarks are already doing the rounds, 2.1 million points on AnTuTu and 95fps in the Aztec 1440p GPU test, painting a picture of a chip that’s gunning for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in both CPU throughput and gaming performance.

The “e” in Dimensity 9400e likely denotes “enhanced,” and from what’s been leaked so far, the chip doesn’t disappoint. It’s expected to feature the same core architecture as the Dimensity 9300+ but with frequency tweaks, better thermal efficiency, and possibly more optimized GPU performance. That would allow MediaTek to better segment its flagship portfolio, especially for brands looking to balance top-tier power with more aggressive pricing.

It’s also telling that OnePlus is among the first expected to debut a device with the 9400e onboard. The chip seems to be a natural fit for high-performance, budget-flagship smartphones that aim to offer next-gen gaming capabilities without hitting Ultra-tier price points. Reports suggest the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition and its possible global counterpart, the Nord 5, will be among the first wave of phones powered by the 9400e, placing it squarely against Snapdragon 8s Gen 4-based rivals like the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro and Redmi Turbo 4 Pro.

While detailed specs of the SoC remain under wraps, what’s clear is that MediaTek is positioning the Dimensity 9400e to fill a strategic niche: a semi-flagship chipset that can outperform midrange silicon but doesn’t cannibalize the premium-tier Dimensity 9400. As the mid-year refresh cycle kicks into gear, the 9400e could give MediaTek a critical edge in the race for silicon dominance, especially in markets where value-for-performance drives buying decisions.

We’ll know more next week, once MediaTek officially pulls the curtain. But for now, it looks like the Dimensity 9400e is shaping up to be a smart, targeted move in an increasingly segmented SoC landscape.

MediaTek is taking a page out of Qualcomm’s playbook and prepping a strategic move in the sub-flagship space. What was once expected to be the Dimensity 9350 is now likely launching under a new name: Dimensity 9400e. It’s a rebranding move that suggests MediaTek wants this chip to feel a lot closer to the company’s flagship lineup rather than just another entry in the mid-high tier Dimensity 9300 family.

According to a consistent string of leaks from trusted Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the Dimensity 9400e isn’t just a marketing rehash. It’s expected to deliver genuine performance gains—enough to warrant a “9300++” label, which is a subtle nod that it goes beyond even the already-enhanced Dimensity 9300+.

Performance: Familiar Core Layout, Pushed Harder

At the heart of the Dimensity 9400e is reportedly the same core configuration that powers the 9300 and 9300+: one Cortex-X4 prime core, three additional Cortex-X4 performance cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. That’s eight performance-oriented cores and zero efficiency cores—MediaTek is sticking with its all-big-core CPU design here, a bold strategy first seen with the 9300.

The difference this time? Clock speeds. The 9400e is rumored to push those frequencies even further than the 9300+, which already bumped the prime Cortex-X4 to 3.4GHz. That alone could deliver measurable gains in burst performance and sustained multitasking. Expect benchmark scores that outpace the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and possibly challenge Qualcomm’s upcoming 8s Gen 4 chip—its own rebranded sub-flagship effort.

Graphics, AI, and Efficiency

While there’s no official word on GPU changes, the Dimensity 9400e is expected to retain the Immortalis-G720 GPU, which proved capable in the 9300 series, especially with its 46% improved ray tracing support. AI performance could see incremental boosts too, potentially through better tuning of MediaTek’s APU 790 and improvements to its “NeuroPilot” architecture.

Efficiency is also part of the story. The Dimensity 9400e could be fabricated on TSMC’s 4nm process node, similar to its predecessors. While exact details are still unclear, any improvements in power tuning or thermal management could make a noticeable difference—especially in a chip that prioritizes performance across all cores.

Phones and the Bigger Picture

The Dimensity 9400e is expected to power a number of performance-centric mid-premium Android phones launching later this year. Leading the charge could be the OnePlus Ace 5V—a device tipped to pack a massive 7,000mAh battery and a flat 1.5K display. This is likely to be the successor to the Ace 3V, which itself was rebranded as the Nord 4 for global markets. It’s a safe bet that the Ace 5V could eventually launch outside China under the Nord 5 moniker.

Realme is also reportedly interested in using the 9400e, making this chip a real contender in the upper-midrange space where value and performance intersect.

Calculated Counter to Qualcomm

MediaTek’s decision to rename the 9350 to Dimensity 9400e seems to echo Qualcomm’s own rebranding of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (previously tipped as the 8s Elite). Both companies are blurring the lines between flagship and sub-flagship categories, offering near-top-tier performance in phones that won’t necessarily carry four-digit price tags.

It’s a smart move. For MediaTek, the Dimensity 9400e could help maintain momentum after the success of the 9300 series and show that it’s not just Qualcomm that can play the high-performance game. It also sets the stage for a more crowded, more competitive premium mid-range smartphone market in 2025.

No official launch date has been announced yet, but if the leaks are any indication, MediaTek is nearly ready to pull the trigger. And if the performance and efficiency gains materialize as expected, the Dimensity 9400e might just be the sub-flagship chip to watch this year.

Meanwhile, MediaTek is also set to launch the Dimensity 9400+ on April 11th, which has already surfaced on various benchmark charts.

Both Qualcomm and MediaTek are preparing their new sub-flagship chips — and both seem to be getting name changes before launch.

Just a few days ago, a leak revealed that Qualcomm’s upcoming chip will be called Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 instead of the previously rumored Snapdragon 8s Elite. And now, it looks like MediaTek is making a similar move for its next chip.

A new leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station claims that MediaTek’s new sub-flagship chip, initially referred to as the Dimensity 9350, will instead launch as Dimensity 9400e.

The name change could be a strategic move to align 9400e with MediaTek’s current flagship rather than sticking with the 9300-series moniker. Though under the hood, it might still be deeply rooted in the Dimensity 9300 series.

Dimensity 9400e Specs

According to DCS, the 9400e is based on the Dimensity 9300 but with enough upgrades that we can consider it “Dimensity 9300++.” Not to be confused, there’s a separate chip called Dimensity 9300+ which is an enhanced version of the 9300. So from what we understand, the 9400e will offer even better performance than the 9300+.

That also likely means the 9400e will stick with the same core layout as the 9300 series: a single Cortex-X4 prime core, three additional Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores. The key difference could be clock speeds which will give it a noticeable edge in performance.

The same leaker also previously mentioned that OnePlus has been working on a phone powered by this chip. Reportedly called the Ace 5V, it is expected to feature a 7000mAh-class battery and a flat 1.5K display alongside the Dimensity 9350 (presumably Dimensity 9400e now).

No official launch date has been confirmed, but with Qualcomm’s 8s Gen 4 likely on the way, MediaTek seems ready to make this sub-flagship chip battle interesting.
