<p>This means that the shipments will witness a drop of 35 percent when compared to the previous quarter. This is being attributed to Q2 2021 being off-season and the drop of shipments in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone">Apple iPhone</a> models.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-364201 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi 11 display review 02" width="2048" height="1152" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Xiaomi-Mi-11-review-02-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></p>
<p>However, when compared Year-on-Year, the numbers represent an impressive increase of 54 percent. On the other hand, the report adds that the rigid <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED panel</a> shipments will be around 53 million units in Q2 2021.</p>
<p>The report from Omdia claims that Samsung Display could ship more than 39.1 million units of flexible OLED panels in the second quarter of this year, which represents a drop of 42.8 percent from the previous quarter and an increase of 61.6 percent YoY.</p>
<p>On the other hand, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lg-display">LG Display</a> is expected to ship 10.6 million units, indicating a drop of 41.1 percent from the previous quarter and an increase of 55.9 percent year-on-year. BOE, CSOT, Visionox, and Tianma are expected to ship 7.9 million units, 3.1 million units, 2.1 million units, and 1.4 million units, respectively in Q2 2021.</p>
<p>Previously, Samsung was one of the few smartphone manufacturers using flexible OLED panels for its Galaxy S-series and Note-series devices, along with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> and Apple. But that is now changing, with more brands adopting this new panel.</p>
<p>With the increase in demand, manufacturers for the flexible OLED panels have also increased as the likes of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/boe">BOE</a> and CSOT increasing their production capacity to compete against the market leader Samsung Display.</p>

<p>However, it seems that China isn&#8217;t far behind and could soon catch-up with South Korea in terms of market share for the display panels. As per the report coming from Omdia (<a href="http://www.thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=1863">via The Elec</a>), China&#8217;s display panel sales will reach $42.5 billion this year.</p>
<figure id="attachment_333400" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-333400" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-333400 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-6.jpg?x44794" alt="BOE's Display Showcase, China" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-6.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-6-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-6-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-6-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-6-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-333400" class="wp-caption-text">BOE&#8217;s Display Showcase</figcaption></figure>
<p>This accounts for around 36.3 percent of the market share. At the same time, it is reported that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/south-korea">South Korea</a> is expected to have sales of around $43.6 billion, which converts around 37.3 percent of the market share.</p>
<p>Checking the previous data, South Korea occupied around 40.1 percent of the market with sales of $44.1 billion. On the other hand, China had just 31 percent market, posting sales worth around $34 billion.</p>
<p>The report claims that South Korea&#8217;s sales will drop by 1.1 percent this year while that of China will see an increase of 25 percent. Thus, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/china">China</a> will be able to reach the level of South Korea for display panel sales.</p>

<p>Most of the sales for South Korea now comes from OLED panels as one of the major companies for the displays &#8212; Samsung has left the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lcd">LCD</a> market and is just focusing on OLED and other display types.</p>
<p>In the year 2019, South Korea&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED</a> panel sales accounted for 88.4 percent while that of China accounted for just 10.1 percent. However, China has been leading the LCD panel market for over two years now.</p>
<p>In order to boost its market, China is planning to commence its 14th 5-year plan this year in which the country is focusing on developing core materials and equipment on its own and focus more on the localized supply chain.</p>

<p>As per the <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-huawei-samsung-display-lg-display/samsung-display-gets-u-s-licenses-to-supply-some-panels-to-huawei-source-idUSKBN27B2RZ">report from Reuters</a>, Samsung Display, a division of South Korean giant Samsung that develops display technologies, has been granted a license to continue supplying certain <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/display">display panel</a> products to Huawei Technologies.</p>
<p>But, it is still not clear whether Samsung Display will be able to export its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED</a> panels to Huawei as other firms in the supply chain that makes components necessary to manufacture panels would also have to get U.S. licenses.</p>

<p>Recently, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lg-display">LG Display</a>, the rival of Samsung Display, had said that it needs to get a license to continue doing business with Huawei along with other companies are in the supply chain for making the display panels.</p>
<p>All the major companies that were doing business with Huawei before the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/17/us-reinforces-restrictions-on-huaweis-access-to-chips-and-other-tech/"> tighter restrictions imposed</a> by the U.S. have applied for required licenses to continue doing business with the Chinese giant.</p>
<p>Intel recently confirmed that it has been granted a license to supply chipsets to Huawei which are used in the company&#8217;s laptop products. Other companies like Qualcomm, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek">MediaTek</a>, Sony, Samsung Electronics, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sk-hynix">SK Hynix</a>, and Kioxia, among others have also applied for a license with the United States.</p>
