DJI apps reportedly not working on Pixel 6 series, users get advised to use another device

A compatibility issue or a bug is preventing DJI apps from performing as intended on the Google Pixel 6 series, leading to some DJI devices becoming virtually unusable.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners have reported that the latest versions of the DJI Fly and Mimo apps currently suffer from an issue that prevents live previews from displaying at all. Instead, all the users get to see is a black screen. The controls and other elements are still visible and work as intended but the live image fails to show up completely.

For DJI drones, the issue is a dealbreaker considering Pixel 6 owners are left with no way to see from the POV of the drone and thus control it accordingly. Framing a shot or marking a target becomes impossible too. Action 2 or Pocket 2 owners, on the other hand, are a little better off in this regard as the issue is only an inconvenience that makes it harder to get the best possible shot.

Android Police has confirmed that the DJI Fly app works just fine on Pixel 4 XL running Android 12. Therefore, it isn’t difficult to establish that the issue is indeed an incompatibility problem affecting the Pixel 6 series, likely due to the new Tensor chip.

However, there are also some complaints suggesting that the issue may also affect the Galaxy S21, although it could be possible that something else is at play in this case.

Regardless, in view of the ever-increasing complaints on DJI’s public forum, moderators have confirmed that it’s a known issue and that DJI is working to fix the issue. Also suggested was to use devices other than the Pixel 6 series in the meantime.

DJI Action 2 camera might launch tonight, official app receives update

DJI had previously announced that it will be launching three new products in a row. The launch dates for these products was October 20, October 27, and November 27, so we can expect the company to release a new camera later today.

Previously, we had reported on the Chinese drone maker launching the Ronin 4D, which is a new cinema camera that arrives with an in built gimbal, LiDAR support, and can even shoot at up to 8K resolution. It features the Zenmuse X9 that has interchangeable lens mounts for the brand’s DL and Leica’s M systems. Now, based on the company’s recent teasers ahead of launch, the next camera that will be released is the Action 2.

According to an ITHome report, users of DJI’s official Mimo app, which is the partner app for the brand’s handheld gimbal cameras, spotted that the application also received a new update. This update adds support for the Action 2 camera, which is expected to weigh 56 grams and is equipped with 1/1.7 inch CMOS sensor (F2.8). Its camera lens will be able to shoot up to 4K resolution at 120 fps and has an 155 degree field of view. The Action 2 will be equipped with RockSteady 2.0 and HorizonSteady anti shake solution.

Under the hood, the Action 2 is powered by a 580mAh battery that offers nearly an hour of battery life. Previous leaks had also pointed at a modular design along with an external screen and battery module. However, we will have to wait for an official announcement to know for sure, so stay tuned for more updates.

DJI announces three launch events at once – DJI Mavic 3 Pro & Action 2 to finally release?

DJI on Tuesday announced three separate launch events at once in an unprecedented step. It was a teaser kind of affair with the company only providing information on the events themselves and not what they will be about.

The event teaser has been titled ‘Good things come in threes’ and has been posted via DJI’s Twitter handle. It is perhaps the first time we have seen such a company announce three events at once. The first two will be held this month – on October 20 and October 27, while the last of the trio will be held on November 5.

But even without an official word on what the DJI launch event will have in store, we can still speculate on the products that will be launched. Latest rumors have set an October 27 launch date for the DJI Action 2. The camera has a modular design, and given the October 27 image shows connector pins, it is safe to assume that they’re indeed referring to the DJI Action 2.

As for the November 5 launch, it is likely to be the most significant among the three. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone was earlier expected to be launched this month but recent reports suggested that the launch had been delayed a bit, making it likely that the November 5 launch has been dedicated to it.

Further, leakster Jasper Ellens had shared his observations on Twitter saying that the third image may have something to do with the battery on the Mavic 3, so there’s that.

Now that the last two events among the trio have been tackled, the first one stands out like a sole thumb. Unfortunately, there’s no telling what it is referring to. It is indeed obvious that the symbol stands for ‘record’, but it doesn’t exactly help pinpoint a particular product from DJI’s portfolio.

TechRadar speculates that it could be a product related to the DJI OM 5 smartphone gimbal or perhaps the DJI Pocket 2. It could even be a more professional DJI camera, like the one leaked by DJI leakster @OsitaLV in August.

Regardless, it is only a week-long wait for the first DJI launch event, so we should come to know what it is about soon enough.
