DJI, one of the well-known drone makers, has officially responded to the claims of a battery-related issue with the DJI Mini 2 and the company has also said that a fix for the same is coming soon.

After YouTuber Ian in London highlighted the battery discharge issue with the DJI Mini 2 claiming that it may harm the long-term health of the device’s battery, more users started complaining about the same.

The DJI Mini 2 uses Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries and they ideally need to slowly discharge when left at full charge to help prolong the life and prevent long-term issues. While DJI’s Intelligent Batteries usually do this but users found that the Mini 2 drone’s battery isn’t doing this and it has now been confirmed by the company.

To fix this issue, the company says that it is working on the fix will release a new firmware update that will “initiate auto-discharge when batteries are in the drone or charging hub and have not been used recently,” reports TechRadar.

The DJI spokesperson added: “When placed in the drone or charging hub, the batteries use a minute amount of charge to maintain vital functions and do not initiate auto-discharge. For customers storing their drone for long periods of time, DJI recommends that batteries are removed from the drone and/or charging hub whether the firmware is updated or not. DJI will provide information on timing once that information becomes available.”

The DJI Mini 2 was launched in November last year for $449 and comes with support for shooting 4K videos at 30fps, 4X zoom, 2X lossless zoom, as well as RAW format. It is powered by OcuSync 2.0 with features like QuickShot, QuickTransfer, Enhanced Photo, and Trimmed Download. As for the battery life, it offers 31 minutes of flight time.

DJI has been announcing new products for the past few weeks and now the company has launched yet another device — DJI Mini 2. As the name indicates, the product is a successor to the Mavic Mini — the company’s smallest drone, but the company seems to have dropped with Mavic branding.

Being a second-generation product, the newly launched DJI Mavic Mini 2 comes with some additional and improved features. It now supports shooting 4K videos at 30fps, an upgrade compared to its predecessor that supports 2.7K recording.

The company is still using the same 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel camera sensor that was found on the original model. This new version also offers support for 4X zoom, where 2X zoom is lossless. Additionally, it also allows users to shoot in RAW format.

DJI has replaced the “enhanced Wi-Fi” feature with its own OcuSync 2.0 for transmission or video streaming. With this, the maximum range has been doubled from 4km to 10km. In the software department, along with QuickShot, it now supports features like QuickTransfer, Enhanced Photo, and Trimmed Download.

As for the flight time, the company adds that it can fly for around 31 minutes on a single charge, almost the same as the original model, with a top speed of 35.8mph. It weighs 249 grams, which means that users won’t need to register this drone with the FAA.

The DJI Mavic Mini 2 is priced at $449 in the United States, which is $50 more than the original model. The device is now available for purchase.

Popular drone maker DJI has been in the news lately as a result of plans to launch a new mini-drone that would be called Mavic Mini 2. The unannounced product was recently listed by popular US electronics retailer Adorama and the product page shows it will be the Mavic Mini 2 moniker. However, that may not be the case, as the mini drone has appeared in real skin, thanks to an unboxing video posted by a Youtuber.

The YouTube video shows the retail box and the drone as well as the accessories inside the retail box. What is most spectacular is that the device will be called DJI Mini 2 as against Mavic Mini 2. We can guess what prompted this change in the naming sequence but it may be to distinguish this from the more expensive Mavic series.

The DJI Mini 2 is said to weigh just 249g makes it not to require registration in many countries where drones weighing up to 250g are required to be registered. The drone is also shown to come with the capacity to shoot 4k videos but there is no ActiveTrak feature.

The YouTube video also shows that the drone is capable of flying up to a range of 10km and can stay up in the air for up to 31 minutes.

DJI is yet to officially announce the Mini 2 (Mavic Mini 2 if you like) but with the frequency of leaks, we should expect the launch to happen any moment from now.
