Vivo, a brand known for its smartphones and high end mobile photography, is reportedly planning to enter the vlogging camera market with a new compact gadget that might be targeting creators and content makers. So here’s everything we know so far.

Vivo Vlogging Camera: New DJI Osmo Pocket Series Rival?

According to a fresh report, the Chinese tech giant is working on a dedicated vlogging camera device that is expected to launch by the end of this year. The new compact vlogging camera that could compete with DJI’s popular Osmo Pocket series of portable gimbal cameras. This would mark a notable expansion for Vivo beyond smartphones and accessories. It also signals its ambition to branch into dedicated imaging hardware that appeals to vloggers who want lightweight, handheld tools that deliver stabilised, high-quality footage without lugging around larger rigs.

Details about Vivo’s vlogging camera remain scarce, and the company has not officially revealed the product name, specs or price. However, insiders say the device is positioned to compete with DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup, like the upcoming Osmo Pocket 4 and Pocket 3. Both of these are pocket friendly cameras that feature mechanical gimbal stabilization, touchscreen controls and high-resolution video capture.

If Vivo’s compact camera sees the light of day in 2026 as tipped, it could give creators a new vlogging camera option outside of popular brands like DJI, GoPro, and Insta360. Vivo has been collaborating with Zeiss for its lens and tuning on its flagship X series of smartphones, so we might also see an expansion of this partnership. Although, this is just a speculation at this point, so take this news with a pinch of salt.

Recently we covered the new pocket-sized gimbal released by Snoppa, the Vmate. It is a small gimbal with an embedded camera that you can carry anywhere as it can literally fit into your pocket. For starters, the Vmate sports a 90 degrees rotatable lens and you can switch from horizontal to vertical orientation quickly. This is something very useful that the DJI Osmo Pocket is missing. In addition, the horizontal axis has a rotation range of 400 degrees so there are no blind spots or dead corners when shooting. On the other hand, DJI’s gimbal reaches up to just 280 degrees. That’s less than a turn.

When talking about connectivity, the Vmatec comes with WiFi built-in and you can preview what you’re shooting on your phone and also use the smartphone as a remote control. Thanks to that connection, the Vmate can wirelessly transmit 4k video files to the phone. The DJI Osmo Pocket is using a USB connection that after a period of time is easy to loosen resulting in poor contact and it’s even easier to break. Not to mention the fact that it’s not very practical when using it as the cable gets in the way. Using WiFi means that you can attach the Snoppa Vmate anywhere on the phone while the Osmo Pocket has to be placed only on the right side of the phone. Lastly, both come with USB Type-C ports at the bottom but Osmo’s uses USB 2.0 protocol which means reduced transmission speeds.

Both devices can shoot up to 4K@60fps video but the Vmate can also shoot slow-motion FHD video @240fps while the Osmo Pocket stays @120fps. In addition, Snoppa Vmate reaches up to 200Mbps bitrate and Osmo just 100Mbps. This means better video quality for the Vmate that has a new hardware module that does away with the focus issues found on Osmo.

Vmate and Osmo Pocket are similar in size but the Vmate handle is 5mm wider to offer a more comfortable grip and it also has a slightly larger display than the DJI. Also, the Vmate has built-in Bluetooth and can be externally connected to a Bluetooth microphone like Apple’s Airpods, Xiaomi, etc. And even more important is the dual microphone of the Vmate that offers 2 functions: Noise reduction or stereo sound recording.

The rest of the differences are found mostly in the software department. The Snoppa Vmate app offers a unique PIP mode besides the standard POV, time-lapse, panorama, and other modes. The PIP mode uses the smartphone’s front camera and vloggers love it. Finally, the Vmate has a TF card slot protected against water and also a lanyard hole if you prefer to carry it on your wrist. The DJI Osmo is a gimbal with an attached camera that lets you take shake-free photos and videos. Leaked photos have revealed that the drone-maker is set to release a smaller version called the DJI Osmo Pocket.

Images of the DJI Osmo Pocket show that the portable camera gimbal can fit in your palm. In the photos above, the Osmo Pocket is shown alongside the Mavic 2 drone while the photos below show a retail version.

The retail box shows that the device’s companion app called the DJI MIMO App will work on Android and iOS devices. The camera comes in black, has a touchscreen, a couple of buttons, a scroll wheel and supports 5V/2A charging.

Apparently, the device seems to be already on sale as an unboxing video is already up on YouTube. The video says the review unit was bought from an online store and shipped overnight. The video also says the Osmo Pocket has a MicroSD card slot, a microphone, and a non-removable battery.

Apart from the unboxing video, there is also an official advert video. The ad reveals the Osmo Pocket can record 4K videos at 60fps, can shoot panorama images, has a night-shot mode, an object-tracking mode called Activetrack and an FPV mode.

There is no info about the camera’s sensor but seeing as the launch is later tonight, it won’t hurt to wait till then to find out. The unboxing video also didn’t reveal the price of the device.
