<p>Following Google&#8217;s denial regarding the support for DisplayPort Connection on the new Pixel 8 Series, Mishaal Rahman <a href="https://x.com/MishaalRahman/status/1709730335850713313?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">established</a> that the feature works on the device. In a study with <a href="https://twitter.com/mile_freak07" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">another tester</a>, Mishaal confirmed that the DP Alt Mode on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is running, but the company has disabled it with a firmware update. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-575302" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pixel-8-featured.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong><em>Must See: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/15/google-reportedly-blocked-users-from-installing-benchmark-apps-on-pixel-8-and-8-pro/">Google reportedly blocked users from installing benchmark apps on Pixel 8 and 8 Pro</a></em></strong></p>

<p>He managed to successfully connect and mirror the smartphone&#8217;s display using USB Type-C. To enable the display output over USB-C, the user needs to root the Pixel 8 smartphone and need to do some configuration changes. However, the process requires the right USB Type-C cable which is capable of carrying Video output to other displays. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Since I&#39;m not gonna have my own Pixel 8 for a while, I might as well put this out there so someone else can test it ASAP:<br><br>You might be able to enable DisplayPort Alternate Mode (ie. display output over USB-C) if you root the device. That&#39;s because it seems to be disabled at a… <a href="https://t.co/SxtBTjLwVj">pic.twitter.com/SxtBTjLwVj</a></p>&mdash; Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) <a href="https://twitter.com/MishaalRahman/status/1709730335850713313?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 5, 2023</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>Following the process, another user reciprocated the procedure and managed to successfully establish the mirror using DisplayPort capability. </p>

<p>Now, it is difficult to understand why Google has disabled a feature that might be useful for some Pixel 8 users. We believe the feature could be in the early stages of development, and the c company would want to establish more use cases to make the feature more fruitful and productive. </p>

<p>Google could launch the DisplayPort compatibility via QPR1 or QPR2 update early next year. Interested user who would want to get access to the feature can root their devices to get early access. </p>

<h2><strong>Other Features Removed from Pixel 8</strong></h2>

<p>Apart from the DisplayPort feature on Pixel 8, Google<em> pulled the plug</em> on several useful features that were part of the device till the last minute. The company removed the 8K video recording capability, and also the ability to record 720p@480fps slo-mo videos at the <em>eleventh hour</em>. </p>

<p>Well, we hope these features might be reserved for the upcoming Quarterly Platform Release (QPR).</p>
