Decathlon has launched a new Peach Orange colorway for its Rockrider E-ACTV 500 hybrid e-bike in Europe. The bike originally debuted in March 2024 and was available in Eucalyptus Green, Lavender Purple, and Cream Beige. The new color is now available at Decathlon’s online stores in France, the Netherlands, and Spain.

This is a significant leap compared to commonly used lead-acid batteries, which typically offer a range of around 50 kilometers. Remarkably, despite the extended range, production costs for potassium-ion batteries are comparable to lead-acid batteries.

Beyond offering more range without breaking the bank, potassium-ion batteries boast environmental benefits as well. They are comprised mostly of non-toxic and reusable materials, leading to considerably less pollution compared to lead-acid batteries when they reach the end of their lifespan.

Anhui Guoxin has successfully conducted road tests on their new battery packs with popular e-bike brands Yadi and Lujia, and user feedback has been positive. The company is optimistic about the future, anticipating mass production of key electrode materials, battery cells, and entire energy storage systems for potassium-ion batteries by the end of 2024. TARRAN claims that the new T1 Pro is designed to address a major drawback of using a cargo e-bike by introducing its smart gear. The T1 Pro is among the highlights of the ongoing Eurobike 2024 conference in Frankfurt, Germany.

The TARRAN T1 Pro is an impressive foldable cargo e-bike with a front-loading design as against a longtail form factor. It implements an intelligent spacing technique for maintaining balance. The cargo e-bike measures about 2.26 meters in length mainly due to its utilization of front-loading architecture. The TARRAN T1 Pro can accommodate two children of height 1.26m or shorter in its box without any fear of tipping. Zongshen has announced a 1.5-liter extended-range electric bike. The Zongshen ES5 extended-range version is a hybrid vehicle that offers great performance. The battery life of the Zongshen ES5 can sustain the bike for up to 300km.

The Zongshen new energy motorcycle is under the Senlan Electric brand and is equipped with a set of 60V 31Ah lithium batteries. The pure electric range of the ES5 is put at 70km while the comprehensive range is about 300km. The minimum fuel consumption of the new Zongshen motorcycle is 1.5L/ 100km when the battery power is incorporated. The ES5 also comes in a pure electric version with two or three 60V 31Ah lithium battery packs. The range of the pure electric version of the model reaches 180km for the three-battery setup.

Senlan Electric has several innovations that it has introduced in the industry in recent times. The brand launched the Senlan extended-range technology platform C-REEV last month. The extended range design when implemented, ensures that a vehicle has a worry-free endurance and this applies to the ES5. The technology can continuously charge the battery of the EV while driving or parked, which translates to minimal waiting time for charging and an extended range. The model also offers pure electric power for short distances and power generation for long distances.

There are multiple charging modes to meet the various usage modes of the ES5. Ordinary household 220V charging takes 2-3 hours to fully recharge a single battery, while the Car AC charging station 2200W fast charging is achieved in 40 minutes. The extended-range platform power generation provides minimum state-of-charge fuel consumption of 1.5L/100km. The C-REEV power recovery mode provides a continuous small amount of power feedback.

The ES5 equipped with the C-REEV requires a more conservative battery architecture translating to lower cost. It also provides a maximum external discharge of 1000W which can be transformed into a large mobile power supply. Decathlon has released the Van Rysel E-GRVL AF MD electric bicycle in Europe. The Decathlon Van Rysel E-GRVL AF MD is an e-gravel bike that was announced earlier this year. It comes with a powerful mid-mounted Brose Drive T Mag motor and a 500Wh battery. The model has now gone on sale in Europe.

Decathlon says that the Van Rysel E-GRVL AF MD is the brand’s most efficient electric gravel bike so far. Its mid-mounted 250W Brose Drive T Mag motor delivers a maximum torque of 70Nm. There are four modes to choose from while riding the e-bike and it also comes with handlebar controls.

Ridley has launched its first electric road bike called the Ridley E-Grifn. The new e-bike is well suited for urban as well as off-road movement and it comes with some decent features. The performance cycling company is offering both pedal-powered and assisted versions of the Grifn.

Features

The E-Grifn reflects the uncompromising design strategy of Ridley and it comes with the Mahle X20 drive unit. The drive unit itself contributes about 3.2kg to the overall weight of the e-bike. The bike’s torque sensor is capable of delivering a maximum torque of 55Nm which is a decent output for a hub motor. The Mahle X20 drive unit delivers almost zero mechanical resistance at speeds above 15.5 mph (25 km/h). the Ridley E-Grifn has a 350Wh integrated battery in addition to an optional 171Wh range extender. The range extender, if included, replaces the water bottle mount on the e-bike.

The E-Grifn can be fully recharged in just 3.5 hours and achieves 80% charge within two hours. The bike has a 72-degree steerer that straddles between the steeper angles of a performance road bike and a shallower gravel bike. It has a lower bottom bracket than other performance road bikes and 420mm mainstays. This design allows the e-Grifn to generate the needed optimal power when accelerating. The bike is versatile to ride on the road and in slight off-road conditions and will come with up to 42mm tires. Buyers can decide to do away with the front derailleur clamp to suit their gearing preferences. Mechanical and electronic gear shifting options are available with the E-Grifn.

Customers can finetune their preferences for the Ridley E-Grifn and Grifn via the company’s online configurator. This also includes the desired paintwork for the bike. The Ridley E-Grifn is priced starting from €5,499 ($5,910) and can be purchased directly via the company’s website.

Rising e-bike company Urban Jungle has unveiled the Ginza 1.0 trekking e-bike. The Ginza 1.0 is equipped with a mid-mounted Bosch Performance Line motor with a 625Wh Bosch Power Tube battery. The Ginza 1.0 was showcased earlier this year at Velofollies together with the company’s Barrio 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 e-bikes. Urban Jungle is a fast-rising e-bike brand based in Belgium.

Features

The Ginza 1.0 features the SR Suntour XCR32 suspension fork for a more comfortable riding experience. The bicycle also features Schwalbe All Grounder 60-584 tires suitable for a wide range of surfaces including trails. There are five speed levels in the bike and a Gates belt, Shimano MT400 brakes, and Shimano Nexus geared hub are present in the bike.

There are front and rear lights on the Ginza 1.0 for enhanced nighttime visibility, as well as Buchel Hero Air Alloy mudguards. The bike also has a Racktime Boostit 2.0 Purion 200 display on the e-bike which shows ride and battery information. Optibike has released a new electric mountain bike with an unrivaled 180-mile (290km) range. The Optibike RIOT eMTB is available in US and EU versions with 750W and 250W motors respectively. The Optibike RIOT is an all-terrain e-bike and the company says it is the most powerful of its kind. The US version of the e-bike has a maximum torque of 190Nm. The extended range of the RIOT eMTB is due to its large 1,620Wh battery.

Features

The new powerful Optibike e-bike is a class 1 bike in the US. Its powerful torque rating of 190Nm allows the bike to easily navigate inclines with up to 46% gradient. The top speed of the bike is limited to about 32km/h. The EU version of the RIOT eMTB has a top speed of 25km/h and this restriction is based on EU regulations. Both versions of the RIOT eMTB come with a dual-sided pedelec torque sensor and a 1,620Wh lithium-ion battery.

The Optibike RIOT has an LCD mounted on its handlebar and an optional 2,700 headlight for enhanced night visibility. The front of the bike features a RockShox ZEB Ultimate Suspension Fork, while a Fox 230 x 65 Float X Air Shock is present at the rear. Both front and rear suspensions offer 170mm of travel. An optional 14-speed Rohloff geared hub or cassette and derailleur can be utilized to personalize the bike. The RIOT eMTB has a carbon fiber frame and swingarm which makes it to be significantly light at about 31kg.

Pricing

The Optibike RIOT electric mountain bike is now available for pre-order at a starting price of $14,400. Optibike has not provided any clear details on when customers will start receiving their purchases. The model also comes with a color display, among other key features.

The e-bike has a unibody magnesium alloy frame that is foldable for enhanced versatility. The bike weighs about 37.4kg which makes it relatively heavy when compared with models in its category.

The Fuell Folld-1 electric bicycle is now available in the US and the EU at an introductory price of $1,995 and €1,995 respectively. The original price of the model is $2,495 / €2,495 but there are no details when this price regime will kick in.

Gocycle has unveiled the CX series of elegant, lightweight, and foldable electric cargo bikes. The new CX lineup is innovative electric cargo bikes for families. They come with an intriguing new handlebar on the CX Plus model for improved rider comfort. The other model in the lineup is the CXi.

Gocycle is a British e-bike company founded by a former McLaren car designer, Richard Thorpe. It has been manufacturing Formula One-inspired e-bikes since its formation. The CX series of longtail electric cargo bikes feature the Flofit adaptable handlebar setup. Gocycle says this is probably the most adjustable-for-comfort handlebar ever developed. The handlebar is adjustable in reach, and grip angle, and offers multiple hand positions for urban riders.

The foldable design of the Gocycle CX series of cargo e-bikes also provides added versatility for the model. Some images of the Gocycle CX lineup had surfaced before now, but a real photograph of the model is lacking at this time. However, Gocycle has a track record of delivering premium e-bikes since 2009 and it is expected that it will also deliver the CX series as promised. Gocycle has also produced foldable e-bikes with integrated running lights, internal cable routing, and a minimalist display among other features.

The Gocycle CX can support up to 220kg of total weight with its lightweight 23kg body. The cargo e-bike is lighter than some current models and offers a greater load capacity. Gocycle says the center kickstand of the CX series can support the massive load because of its dual-legged retractable design. Gocycle kickstands are lightweight, strong, and foldable. The patent of the new kickstand is yet to be sighted publicly but it is tested with a 220kg maximum load vehicle rating, as well as multi-passenger/ rider loading-unloading use cases.

The frame of the Gocycle CX series electric cargo bikes is made of alloy at the front and carbon fiber at the rear. A carbon fiber wheel and fork are also featured while a 375Wh removable battery delivers a range of 80km for the e-bike. The battery can be fully recharged in 3.5 hours while US customers will get a 500W motor with a 32km/h top speed. The Gocycle CX in Europe will come with a 250W motor with a top speed of 25km/h. Other impressive features of the Gocycle CX series will engender it to the buying public.

Pricing & Availability

Gocycle is already receiving pre-orders for the CX electric cargo bikes at $7600/ €7000 for the CXi and $8,860/ €8,210/ £6,999 for the Gocycle CX Plus. The earliest deliveries of the Gocycle CX will be in September 2024 for the US and UK.

It has some impressive features and the company says it is well-suited for both city commutes and cargo haulage.

The Dolas Defender 250 is signposted by its three-wheel design arranged in a seemingly unconventional manner. The three wheels are arranged in line but each wheel packs a 250W hub motor. The e-bike thus has a combined power output of 750W, which is massive for an e-bike and even beyond the permitted output in Europe. The Dolas Defender 250 also features a 48V, 53Ah battery pack with 2,544Wh capacity. The range of the Dolas Defender 250 is put at 180km on a full charge. There are a few tech details like its dashboard and integration with an app that have not been stated yet for the Defender 250.

The Defender 250 can haul loads up to 250kg. It can accommodate two riders with the passenger also having his own handlebars and saddle. There is also a cargo rack behind the rear seat of the Defender 250 e-bike. The rear cargo rack is perfect for carrying different items ranging from groceries to small luggage. Riding the bike can be a challenging task to get used to especially navigating corners. The bike is however a delight when going uphill with its massive power delivery even with full cargo.

Pricing & Availability

The Dolas Defender 250 is priced at €4,650 ($5,100) and will soon enter the European market. There are no indications yet whether the Defender 250 will also arrive in the US and other international markets.

The new report underscores the rising cases of injuries connected with the increasing use of electric bikes, electric scooters, and other micro-mobility solutions.

The rise in e-scooters/e-bikes adoption increases the chances of an e-scooter/e-bike accident happening

The electric revolution in micromobility has grown in leaps and bounds in the US, as well as other developed markets. The number of e-bikes, e-scooters, and other micromobility products is multiplying seemingly exponentially. This is a good measure to reduce carbon emissions in our cities and rural areas. The e-mobility revolution however has a flipside highlighted by a growing number of injuries and fatalities from accidents. The report specifically focused on the risks and injuries inherent in e-bike and e-scooter travel, especially for younger riders.

The CSPC report covers a period of five years, from 2017 to 2022 and the findings indicate that there is a significant increase in the percentage of injuries that could potentially be avoided. Safety measures like wearing a helmet, choosing safer places to ride, increasing visibility on the road, and avoiding distractions while riding will potentially help to prevent injuries. The most common injuries, according to the report, were fractures, contusions, and abrasions. The report also highlights that injuries from micromobility devices increased by about 21% in 2022 from the previous year.

Electric scooter injuries increased by 21% from 2021, with the bulk (about 50%) of injuries within the period (2017-2022) happening in 2022. The injuries associated with e-scooters and e-bikes occurred most frequently on streets and highways, according to the CSPC report. Hoverboard injuries decreased within the period and occurred mostly at home. Males accounted for the bulk of e-scooter (65%) and e-bike (75%) injuries while females (55%) had more hoverboard injuries.

The CSPC report aligns with previous studies which underscore the need for enhanced safety practices by riders to reduce injuries and damage from accidents. There is also an aspect of enforcement of safety rules (like making helmets compulsory) that could further eliminate potential injuries from the use of micromobility products.

Potts e-Bikes is a specialist dealer based in Germany. It seems to have acquired a license to sell Class electric bicycles in Europe and is debuting with the Claas trekking e-bike. Claas has an established identity as an agricultural machinery brand.

The new trekking e-bike is the first pedelec from the brand. It is equipped with a Bosch Performance Line smart motor. It also comes with an Enviolo TR gear hub underpinning its stepless gear architecture and automatic shifting.

The new Claas trekking e-bike’s Bosch smart electric motor is mid-mounted while a 625Wh removable battery is locked away within the frame. The frame is green and will be available in various sizes for both step-through and step-over versions. The bike is also equipped with a Gates Carbon Belt Drive CDX and an RST Volar TNL-F suspension. The ride is made more comfortable with the additional suspension seat post, while effective control is achieved via the Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes.

The e-bike’s branding reflects the Claas identity with red accents on the 27.5-inch wheels with Schwalbe Johnny Watts tires. The trekking e-bike has a Bosch Kiox 500 display for viewing ride information. Accessories include mudguards, a headlight, and a kickstand, while a rear rack is also available to transport luggage. There are still a few specs that are lacking for the Claas e-bike at this time including the assistance range and top speed.

Pricing & Availability

The Claas trekking e-bike will launch in spring 2024 but the specific launch date has not been released. The recommended retail price for the Claas e-bike is €4,990 ($5,467). Potts e-Bikes will sell the Claas e-bike across Europe, but other specialist dealers could also be in the mix. There are no indications yet whether the Claas e-bike will be subsequently available in other markets outside Europe.
