This new tech is debuting on the Amflow, which is the brand’s first e-bike that is built using carbon fiber. DJI Amflow Mountain e-bike: What makes it special?

The Chinese drone maker’s Avinox drive system arrives in a light 2.52 kilogram package (not including the batteries) and promises to offer 850W of peak power (250W nominal power). This system is packed in the bike’s lightweight 19.2 kilogram frame. These two aspects help the Amflow to outperform other full power bikes in power output and range. The Avinox features an IP66 rating as well for water and dust resistance.

The battery on the Avinox supports GaN 3x fast charging technology, which can hit 0 to 75 percent charge in just 1.5 hours. Its drive system arrives with a planetary gearset and polymer gears that bring a balance between size, weight, and power output. DJI promises a quiet ride and four standard riding assist modes, namely Auto, Eco Trail, Turbo, and Boost mode. The auto mode offers automatic power adjustment using a “multi-sensor fusion”. Avinox sports a 2-inch OLED touchscreen panel that lets you change the assist modes and display other key details.

It is noted that virtually all traditional bicycle brands have added electric bicycles to their bouquet of products.

Volkswagen’s pursuit of e-bike presence is driven by its subsidiary, Volkswagen Financial Services. It is in partnership with Pon Holdings, itself a large mobility company. The two companies plan to collaborate to expand electric bicycle leasing in Europe and the United States. The leasing service will both cover employees and commercial customers in both regions.

The deal has seen Volkswagen Financial Services acquire a 49% stake in Pon’s Bike Mobility Services (BMS). Pon’s bike leasing company is operational in Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium and the US. The BMS brand has quietly established itself as one of the biggest bike-sharing companies in the industry.

BMS is reported to provide bikes for over 600,000 employees in 65,000 companies. The majority of the bikes on offer at BMS (90%) are electric bikes, which are appealing to a growing audience. These bikes are serviced by a rich network of up to 8,000 dealers.

The Volkswagen-Pon partnership is expected to tap from the opportunities in the US market. BMS recently opened its first US office and some large corporations have signed onto the bike-sharing model. The new partnership is not the first time both companies have collaborated. Volkswagen and Pon’s engagements span over eight decades. Pon Holdings is the largest importer of the Volkswagen Group in the Netherlands.

The latest news is about an updated version of the B’Twin LD 920 E e-bike. Last year, this bike was made for long trips. Now, they’ve added an automatic gear system to make riding even easier. This new gear system was made with a company from Belgium called E2 Drives. It uses two motors to help you pedal and change gears smoothly. There are sensors that check the bike’s performance really fast, about 20,000 times in just one second. This means the ride feels smooth and easy.

One of the best parts is the battery. It’s hidden in the bike frame and can last up to 150 kilometers (or about 94 miles) when it’s fully charged. The bike also has some cool extra features. There’s a GPS tracker built-in, so you can find your bike if it gets stolen. It also has a touchscreen that shows useful information while you’re riding. Consumers can pick different modes, like Eco or Boost, to change how the bike rides. There’s also a strong light at the front and a rack at the back for your bags.

Recognizing the trend, manufacturers are designing racks that can handle heavier bikes. The challenge remains, though, to safely lift these e-bikes, some weighing up to 30 kilograms, to roof level without risking injury.

Here’s where Pender, a German company, is offering an innovative solution: a user-friendly roof rack system designed to tackle the challenges of loading and unloading heavy e-bikes. Its unique design includes a telescoping arm that reaches ground level, fitted with a hook that latches onto the e-bike’s headtube and seatpost.

This arm is part of a hydraulic system that effortlessly lifts the bike to roof level. Once there, users simply secure the bike’s wheels onto wheel trays, with a safety lock ensuring the bike remains secure and won’t suddenly descend. This lock can be manually released when it’s time to bring the bike back down.

The Pender e-bike rack has a wide range of compatibility, accepting bikes with wheelbases from 90 to 130 centimeters and maximum loads of up to 30 kilograms. However, the rack itself weighs 11.8 kilograms, so installation might require some assistance.

Despite its innovative solution, Pender’s roof rack does come with a hefty price tag of around 748 Euros ($820 USD). Yet, for those seeking a safer, easier method of transporting their e-bikes, it could be a worthy investment. With pre-orders already open, it’s clear that Pender is pioneering a whole new era of e-bike transportation.
