Seagate has just launched a brand new hard disk drive in the Indian market with high storage capacities and an interesting new design. The new HDD is an external drive that basically serves as a backup storage option.

Seagate Ultra Touch HDD is built with recycled materials

The company has unveiled the new Ultra Touch HDD, which is built using 30 percent recycled materials and even arrives with 100 percent recyclable packaging as well. This model arrives a minimalistic design with a dual tone colors. It is offered in a cloud white or pebble grey option, with a small green band that runs along the top and side, carrying Seagate brand logo and the USB Type-C port.

The HDD even arrives with a lightweight design, which makes it quite portable and useful for professionals working remotely and students as well. The brand is offering a complimentary 6 month Mylio Photos subscription along with a 6 month Dropbox Backup Plan. Apart from this, it comes with a three year limited warranty and Rescue Data Recovery Services to help prevent data loss. The Seagate Ultra Touch HDD is being sold in three capacities, namely 2TB, 4TB, and 5TB.

The base variant with 2TB capacity has a price tag of 7,499 INR, while the 4TB model costs 4TB capacity. Lastly, the top end model with 5TB of storage is going on sale for 12,999 INR. The new eco-friendly HDD will be available for purchase on Amazon India and the company’s official website.

Earlier today (20th December 2021), Realme held the Innovation Forward online special event for its upcoming GT 2 series. In the live stream, the company announced a number of new technologies and features that will be arriving on the flagship lineup.

Paper Tech Master Design

In the past, the Chinese smartphone brand had worked with Naoto Fukasawa for its “Master Design.” Now, Realme announced that it is working with the known Japanese industrial designer again for its GT 2 Pro. The new design is called Paper Tech Master Design, which is inspired by paper and offers a premium minimalist look. Apart from the design, the company even placed a focus on the environmental impacts of the materials as well. The GT 2 Pro will feature the world’s first bio-based smartphone design, which reduces the carbon footprint during the production process.

World’s First 150° Ultra Wide Camera

During the event, Realme also showcased its trend of unveiling new camera technologies with its smartphone offerings. So to continue this tradition, it is launching the GT 2 Pro with the world’s first 150° ultra wide camera. As the name suggests, this wide angle lens offers users a 150° field of view, which is 278 percent more than typical primary smartphone cameras that have a 84° field of view. Notably, the company has even developed the world’s first Fisheye Mode on a smartphone that produces an ultra long depth of field effect for more creative photography.

Antenna Array Matrix System

The brand even unveiled its new Antenna Array Matrix System that will power the connectivity features of the GT 2 Pro. This includes a new Antenna technology, enhancements to WiFi, and a handy 360° NFC connectivity. The new Ultra Wide Band HyperSmart Antenna Switching supports 48 mainstream global brands that makes it compatible in over 150 nations. It even offers a new non-wraparound Antenna technology, which basically offers 12 wraparound antennas instead of just two on the top and the bottom of the device.

This conventional leads to a “death grip” during gaming as users tend to hold their phones from the top and bottom, hindering the signal. So with the additional antennas, gamers get a strong and uninterrupted connection during intense online games. Additionally, its enhanced WiFi allows for a 20 percent improvement in WiFi stability as well, based on WiFi 6 enhanced version. Lastly, it supports 360° NFC technology that makes it more handy in terms of practicality. So now, rather than just using the back of the smartphone where the NFC module is housed, users can simply use NFC by just bringing their device closer from any angle for a proper connection.

Earlier this year, Nokia had launched the XR20, which was a new rugged smartphone that supports 5G networking. Now, the company has launched a new initiative that will have it plant 50 trees for every XR20 being purchased.

The environmentally friendly move from the HMD Global owned brand isn’t exactly new as the company has taken efforts in the past as well in regards to sustainable products. An example being the brand’s X10 that was shipped with 100 percent recyclable packaging and offered up to 3 years of official Android OS and security patch updates. And now, the Finnish smartphone maker is partnering up with Ecologi for its latest “Let’s Plant Together.”

The company made the announced recently and added that the partnership will allow Nokia to plant a certain number of trees, which will be located either in Mozambique or Madagascar. The number of trees being planted will be based on the number of units of devices sold within the G and X series of smartphones. Notably, the initiative also includes the brand’s new T20 tablets as well.

So for those interested and wish to contribute to the eco-friendly drive simply have to register the IMEI number of an eligible smartphone to get new trees planted. According to Nokia’s official announcement, it will plant 10 trees for every G50 sold, while it will plant 20 trees for every new X10, X20, or even the T20 tablet sold. Meanwhile, sale of every XR20 will have 50 trees being planted. The initiative is available for European customers and will run till the company plants 35,000 trees.

Alongside the company’s 2021 lineup of 4K and 8K QLED TVs, Samsung has also unveiled its new Eco Remote Control. This new remote supports solar charging and is a part of the company’s environmentally friendly efforts.

According to TheVerge report, the South Korean tech giant claims that the new remote will “reduce tons of plastic waste per year” and will benefit the environment. Looking at the Eco Remote from the front, it more or less resembles any of the previous TV remotes that shipped with Samsung TVs. However, the rear is what houses its most highlighting feature. On the rear, one can see a long panel of solar cells that can charge the internal battery.

The Samsung Eco Remote itself weighs just 31 grams and is made of plastic, but the company claims that about 28 percent of this material is from “recycled polyethylene terephthalate.” As per Samsung’s official claims, the battery on the remote can be used at a stretch for up to two years before requiring a full charge and can remain functional for a total of about seven years, which is also the average cycle of a single TV.

While it can be charged using solar energy, Samsung has also offered a USB Type C port on the bottom to charge the remote faster. The company added that “By eliminating oil-based ink and expanding eco-friendly packaging to all Lifestyle and QLED TV models, Samsung offers a sustainable solution that can upcycle up to 200,000 tons of boxes a year and turn them into pieces of home decor.”

Apple has apparently vowed to become carbon neutral entirely by 2030. The Cupertino based giant has announced its plans for the move, which will be universal across its entire business to achieve the goal in the next 10 years.

According to Apple, “zero climate impact” is the end goal. The company will work with suppliers to reach complete carbon neutrality by 2030. In other words, the company’s operations will have no impact on Earth’s climate. The 10 year long roadmap is based on a series of innovations that Apple is going adopt across its product design, supplier operations, and materials processing.

Meaning, it will also have its supply chain commit to a certain standard of eco friendliness. The company made the announcement in the 2020 Environmental Progress Report earlier today (22nd July 2020). Apple plans on reducing its emissions by 75 percent in the next 10 years, while also developing new carbon removal techniques for the remaining 25 percent of its carbon footprint.

At the moment, the company reduces its carbon impact primarily by recycling. Apple said that its latest recycling innovation came with “Dave,” a robot that disassembles iPhones to collect rare earth materials. Furthermore, Apple also announced that it will be investing 100 million US Dollars into its supply chain, which includes its new US-China Green Fund partnership. This sizeable sum of funds will go towards strengthening the energy efficiency efforts for its suppliers. Apple claims that over 70 suppliers have pledged to use 100 percent renewable energy for the production of Apple product’s components.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, stated that “the innovations powering our environmental journey are not only good for the planet — they’ve helped us make our products more energy efficient and bring new sources of clean energy online around the world. Climate action can be the foundation for a new era of innovative potential, job creation, and durable economic growth. Samsung Electronics, a known brand in the tech industry, is developing a reusable packaging box. This is likely a move to reduce the waste generated from packaging during the sale of electronics products.

The South Korean tech giant applied for a patent under the title ‘reusable packaging box,’ which features a packaging that combines an inner cushion and an outer protective layer. Generally, a large electronic product like a refrigerator ais shipped in a large cardboard box with styrofoam on the inside to act as shock absorbing material. However, once the product is installed, it is unlikely that it is kept for future use and is typically disposed of immediately.

This creates additional waste and has been known to pollute the environment in the long run, especially styrofoam since its a non-biodegradable material. To tackle this, the new reusable packaging box has been designed with a focus of being used multiple times rather than simply disposing it after one use. Furthermore, the integrated cushion material and outer cover simplify the packaging process while also reduces the number of waste products.

LeEco is making sure its entrance into the United States is grand and is seeing to that with the unveiling of series of innovative products at a go. The latest product unveiled is the eco-friendly LeSEE Pro autonomous(self-driving) electric car which joins the Le Pro 3, Le S3 smartphones as well as the 85-inch uMax85 4K TV which were also unveiled at the event held San Francisco yesterday.

The LeSEE concept car was first unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show last April but LeEco says the LeSEE Pro is more intelligent and more connected than the original concept car. Make no mistake, the LeSEE Pro isn’t a concept car even though it looks like one. However, LeEco didn’t reveal the cost of the car, production plan and other important details, saving those details for later perhaps.

The electric car comes as a self-driving car and one that can make use of a driver at the same time. The steering wheel is capable of retracting into the dashboard when it is in autonomous or self-driving mode, thus creating room for the driver to relax and enjoy LeEco’s streaming entertainment contents. LeEco says the LeSEE is not only a car but is an ecosystem for mobile connectivity.

The car also features an exterior  light display that shifts between five different colors to signal what drive mode its in. According to LeEco, depending on the color the car will inform drivers and pedestrians when the vehicle is driving autonomously, sees a hazard, is charging, or is car-share ready.

The car is said to have arrived the exhibition ground right from London where it is being used for the filming of “Transformer 5” and according to news from China LeSEE Pro mass production will likely commence soon. LeEco is reported to have partnered with the government of Zhejiang province in China to establish an assembly plant worth nearly $ 20 billion.

LeEco also revealed another interesting information during the event that the Faraday Future electric car project that it is bankrolling would unveil its first car at CES next year and as is the case with the LeSEE Pro, the car would be production ready and not just a concept.
