Motorola is gearing up to launch a new flagship device in markets around the world soon. The device is called the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra (for the global market) and the Motorola Edge X30 Pro for the Chinese market. The device is scheduled to launch in China on August 2 at  7:30 pm (local time). So let’s take a look at what we can expect from the device.

Design & display

So far, the leaked renders of the Motorola Edge X30 Pro reveal its design from every angle. The device has a flat back with curved edges on two sides. The top and back of the device have flat edges. The back features a rectangular camera module with one huge camera cutout and two smaller cutouts. The right side of the Edge X30 has a power button and a volume rocker while the bottom houses a USB-C port, a speaker grill, and the SIM slot.

The display of the smartphone will be a 6.73-inch pOLED display that produces a Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 144Hz. It will sport a curved-edge panel with a punch-hole design. The device will come equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Specs

Under the hood, the smartphone will carry the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset that is manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm node. The new chipset promises a 7% CPU and 10% GPU performance uplift compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the Edge X30 while being 30% more energy efficient.

The device is expected to come with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Its battery will have a 4,500mAh capacity and offer support for 125W fast charging.

Camera

What makes this device special is its camera setup. It is all but confirmed to feature the Samsung ISOCELL HP1 200-megapixel primary camera sensor which is 1/1.22″ in size. The sensor features an all-new ChameleonCell technology, a pixel-binning technology that uses a two-by-two, four-by-four, or full pixel layout depending on the environment. It can take 8K videos at 30fps with minimum loss in the field of view.

The HP1 merges four neighboring pixels to bring the resolution down to 50MP to take 8K videos without the need to crop or scale down the full image resolution. In a low-light environment, the HP1 transforms into a 12.5-megapixel image sensor with large 2.56μm pixels by merging 16 neighboring pixels, capable of more light absorption and sensitivity, as well as producing brighter and clearer photos. However, in bright outdoor environments, the sensor can capture ultra-high-definition photos.

Other than the primary sensor, the Edge X30 Pro will also feature a 50-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel sensor on the back. These could be for the ultra-wide camera and the telephoto camera. On the front, the device is said to feature a 60-megapixel selfie shooter.

Pricing

Not much is known about the device when it comes to pricing, however, it is confirmed that the starting price of the device will be more than 3,000 yuan.
